Republican senators signed a public letter to the White House on Friday, vowing to prevent the upper chamber from accomplishing anything — from appropriations to confirmations — in the wake of former President Trump's guilty verdict.

President Joe Biden took heat Friday for his strange response to a question about his political rival's historic criminal conviction following remarks from the White House, flashing what some called an "evil" grin.

A day after Donald J. Trump’s conviction, it quickly became clear that Republicans across the country would not run away from his newfound status as a felon.

They would, instead, run on it.

Echoing Mr. Trump in casting the New York case as a disgraceful sham, Republican candidates and party committees used the first criminal conviction of a former president as a rallying cry — for campaign cash, for congressional hearings and for motivation to vote in November.

Whether they were congressional leaders, potential running mates or onetime rivals...

At one day care center in Dnipro, Ukraine, children may only attend a nearby primary school in person for two to three hours at a time to protect their safety. Then, they must return to the church-run center to finish their studies so another shift of children can rotate into the school for classes. This is because the school's bomb shelter can only accommodate a limited number of children when the air raid sirens inevitably sound.

"Our generation has children of war, and we must understand what we can do with them later when the war ends," Serhii...
