Noem says DHS, Secret Service investigating Comey over alleged ‘assassination’ threat

by Sarah Fortinsky

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem accused former FBI Director James Comey of calling for President Trump’s “assassination,” saying federal law enforcement authorities are now investigating the “threat.”

“Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of @POTUS Trump,” Noem wrote on the social platform X on Thursday evening.

“DHS and Secret Service is investigating this threat and will respond appropriately,” she added.

Comey — a longtime foe of the president’s — posted a photo earlier Thursday on Instagram of seashells on a beach arranged to form the numbers “8647.” The post garnered significant blowback from much of Trump’s base, with many understanding the numbers to be a call for violence against the 47th president, Trump. Others suggested the “86” could be calling for the president to be impeached or removed from office.

Comey removed the photo Thursday evening and clarified in a new post that he did not intend to call for violence and didn’t realize his message would be interpreted that way.

“I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message,” Comey wrote on Instagram. ...

Washington — House Republicans have yet to resolve several major disputes that threaten to derail President Trump's domestic policy bill as more conservative members and blue-state Republicans dig in on their demands.

House Speaker Mike Johnson remains committed to putting the legislation, which would extend tax cuts from Mr. Trump's first term while temporarily enacting new ones, on the floor before Memorial Day. The tax measures, as well as increased spending on the military and border security, would be offset partly by cuts to Medicaid, food...

House Republicans have moved closer to passing President Donald Trump's spending package, which could include a bigger child tax credit.

The House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees taxes, passed its portion of the legislation on Wednesday. While the tax plan could see a full House vote as early as next week, changes could still happen in the Senate.

However, the House-proposed child tax credit boost wouldn't provide relief to the lowest-earning families, according to some policy experts.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said ex-FBI Director James Comey should be "put behind bars" for a post he made on Instagram on Thursday allegedly "issuing a call to assassinate [President Donald Trump.]"

Earlier on Thursday, Comey shared a picture on Instagram with seashells formed in the numbers "86 47." To some, the number "86" is a call sign for murdering or getting rid of someone or something and "47" is typically used to refer to the 47th President of the United States.

"Cool shell formation on my beach walk…," Comey wrote in...
