The Trump administration is planning to narrow protections for endangered species, in a move that environmentalists say would accelerate extinction by opening up critical habitats for development, logging, mining and other uses.
The proposal is the latest deregulatory effort by Donald Trump, who has made it a priority to dismantle endangered species protections as part of a broader quest to boost energy extraction and industrial access, even in the US’s most sensitive and vulnerable natural areas.
The new proposal from the US Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service offers a new interpretation of the of the 1973 Endangered Species Act, which would strike habitat destruction from regulations.
At issue is a longstanding definition of two terms in the Endangered Species Act: “harm” and “take”. “Harm” has meant altering or destroying the places those species live.
“Take”, meanwhile, is a term used in regulations to denote any actions that include hunting, capturing, wounding or killing a protected species, which has included altering or destroying the places those species live.……
The US Fish and WildlifeService and National Marine Fisheries Service said in a proposed rule, issued on Wednesday, that habitat modification and destruction should not be considered “harm” because it is not the same as intentionally targeting a species, which is defined as “take”.……

This administration is on track to cause irreversible harm to the environment—damage so deep that future generations will look back and curse Trump’s name for the species lost and the ecosystems destroyed under his watch.
We’ve all seen the grotesque images of Trump’s sons proudly posing with lions and elephants they killed in Africa. That alone speaks volumes. This isn’t about conservation or responsible stewardship—it's about profit, power, and appeasing wealthy donors.
What we’re witnessing is the dismantling of protections that took decades to build, all in the name of short-term gain. This administration is sacrificing our natural heritage—our children's heritage—for the sake of corporate greed. It’s a betrayal of both nature and the future.

Trump reportedly has his sights on the Democrats’ dominant national fundraising platform, ActBlue, as the organization has been standing by for the White House to take possible action against it.
Trump’s memorandum directs Attorney General Pam Bondi to “investigate allegations regarding the unlawful use of online fundraising platforms to make 'straw' or 'dummy' contributions or foreign contributions to political candidates and committees, and to take appropriate action to enforce the law.”
Donors have given more than $400 million to Democratic candidates through ActBlue over the first three months of the year, according to the Associated Press.

According to ActBlue, nearly 15 million Democratic donors have saved their payment information on the platform.

A preliminary budget document, obtained by The Washington Post, reportedly calls for deep cuts to federal health programs and targetsmultiple addiction prevention and treatment programs, including training of community responders to administer Narcan.
The Independent understands that the document is pre-decisional, and no final decisions have been made.
Narcan – known generically as naloxone – is a nasal spray that works to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in two to three minutes. It is widely used to combat overdoses from serious drugs, including fentanyl.
Though state and local governments have alternative resources than federal programs to obtain Narcan, experts are concerned that the axing of the grant may send a message about the government’s view on such training.
“Reducing the funding for naloxone and overdose prevention sends the message that we would rather people who use drugs die than get the support they need and deserve,” Dr Melody Glenn, an addiction medicine physician and assistant professor at the University of Arizona, told The New York Times.…..
