Once again agreed. I have to give credit to Nate Silver. His poll showed a narrow Trump win.
He also had a poll that showed Harris leading by 18% if Vance were the opponent. It gives
    me hope.
Never underestimate the public’s weariness of Trump.
By the time the 20 Election happened, everyone just wanted a break from checking in on whatever stupid thing he did day in and day out.
Same thing is gonna happen in 28.

Looking at past election results, Katrina is really the turning point.
The state even went to JFK.
If NOLA can ever regain its population, it might go back to being a swing state.

I still stand by my point that Louisiana isn’t as blood red as Mississippi, Arkansas, or Alabama because of New Orleans.
I think the turn had already occurred by Katrina, see Bush winning the state in 2000 and 2004. Louisiana was just like the other southern states that went for Reagan in the 80’s and then saw politicians switching parties in the 90’s, particularly after the 1994 midterms, and Mike Foster crushed Cleo Fields in 1995.

Clinton was able to hold on against the non-charismatic Bob Dole in 1996, but Bush flipped the margin four years later. And the demographic impact of Katrina just deepened the swing.

But even California went to Reagan.

I’m not saying that Louisiana is turning on Republicans, but having a metropolitan city does throw a wrench into the demographics and can occasionally swing an election.
Atlanta and Georgia are the same way.

Yes, but during the 80’s you started seeing longtime registered Democrats starting to break from the party. Dave Treen got elected at the start of the decade — the first Republican governor since Reconstruction a century earlier. And then at the end of the decade Buddy Roemer switched parties while in office, something he was heavily criticized for, but quite a few others would do themselves the next few years.

Honestly, I look at the 1995 Foster-Fields election as the culmination of the Southern Strategy in Louisiana.

My mom was a huge Dave Treen fan, volunteered for him and such, both my parents were Repubs.....but something happened in his last election that changed all that, I don't remember the details but my folks slowly turned on the R party, before they passed in 2014 they voted for Obama in both elections.....My dad did say many times that the R party doesn't care about retirees/older folks....

I can also add Ala. had a democratic governor at the same time as Musgrove. It will be interesting to see how the
solid south goes once Trump is out of the picture. Imho, no current republican has his charisma
Yeah, there is nobody that can act like Trump and keep the racists engaged. That is probably why the Party has become gutless.
