I’m sure much of us are having 2016 flashbacks this morning with a sick feeling to our stomachs..

2 of the last 3 elections Democrats have lost to a far right demagogue

Harris didn’t get close in many states to even Biden’s performance. We could very well lose the Presidency, Senate AND House depending on results the next few days…..

    What went wrong?
    What could’ve been done better?
What can we change in the future to ensure voters are motivated like they were when Obama was elected?

Democrats have no choice but to admit there’s a huge problem with some aspect of their platform— and to do a deep introspection of what’s going wrong..

Meh. I have no new insights and I don't really care what happens. We're a country that chose fascism in an election. That never turns out well.

If we go by the past, I'd say we just have to wait for the demise now and for some other powerful country to come defeat us in war, but I don't see that happening. So we just have to ride the train on the downward spiral and figure it out when we derail. It's possible we will never recover.

If Trump doesn't make it to 2028 we'll get to see what Trumpsim without the "magic" of Trump looks like

Hopefully it weakens quite a bit without his special sauce/weird hold on people

is there? or has gerrymandering, fear mongering and influence tactics caught up now? Has apathy from certain segments of electorate taken root?

someone else mentioned social media- its ABSOLUTELY a factor. When my 21 yr old sees other 21 yr old "influencers" making $$$$ for doing nothing more than posting videos. When her college roommate gets her entire dorm room from Pottery Barn for free because she has 100,000 followers on Instagram and posts daily about reviews....its a !@@#$#$ problem.
Then add constant misinfo along with "that should be YOU" and psychologically, it breaks them.

Peer pressure was always a thing- just now takes on a much larger role because of social media and the unfettered access everyone has.

I dont know how you return to reminding kids that education, hard work, paying taxes, living within your means, being financially sound etc etc with all the information they see/hear/ get bombarded with daily on social media.

So do Dems tap into that aggrieved segment and how?

the Social Media experiment is now over. The results are clear. Its no longer a hypothesis. Its theory. Once you come to terms with that, you can then plan on working within that border and figure a way to make inroads to young folks who are easily influenced by what they see/hear on Social Media.

What will happen is Biden will be throw under the bus.

Some of this is on the party power brokers who consistently seem to think they know better then the rest of us: Obamas, Clinton, Pelosi

Both of Trump's wins happened against candidates that had small, or zero primary field of candidates.

The primary process needs to be far more welcoming, and forgiving after dropping out.

It should be up to the voters.

Storm the Capitol on January 6th 2025?

We know there are no consequences to the party and you win back the White House next time around

Lol, I was thinking about that. Would the Democrats do what the Republicans did? That I even have to ask the question makes my skin crawl. Our country is forked for the next 4 years.

Also, Thomas can retire next year and Trump will nominate Cannon and SCOTUS gets set back another 20 years.

Republicans only have about 52 seats. I think there are a few Republicans that would vote against Cannon. At least I hope so, because that would practically destroy whatever legitimacy is left of the Supreme Court.

Absolutely would. And I do hope the sane Republicans will reject Cannon as a nominee. I'm not optimistic tho.

None of the other 3 should have been on the bench, for different reasons, but none should have been given lifetime positions. But they breezed on through

Makes me wonder if Biden had not been encouraged to bow out, if he would have actually gotten more votes, made things more competitive/won more states than KH

I really don't think so. I think the outcome is the same. This was as much an indictment of his administration as it was Harris, so not sure it makes any difference. I still think the primaries needed to be open and without Biden in the mix.

I think it needs to be acknowledged that 2020 is an aberration in terms of voter access and turnout. There were 6 hour lines in swing states yesterday, always in urban centers of course, that is just completely unreasonable for a huge amount of people, especially in a world where attention spans are smaller by the minute. Turnout was down about 5% from 2020.
Temporary emergency measures in 2020 allowed people to vote then that wouldn't be able to vote this year. Those measures absolutely helped the democrats, and probably even swung the election, which is why they became such a target for the "stop the steal" morons.

When you look at it through that lens, what happened yesterday isn't surprising at all, and to use 2020 as a benchmark for "what works" would be a mistake. In reality we've had 70 million people prefer Trump 3 straight times, and we need to look at that full trend rather than just this year in isolation.

He was polling way worse. I had no idea how bad off Biden was truly. Was he really that isolated from everyone that even major party leaders had no idea?
