Trump, South African president have tense exchange in White House meeting

Differences between President Trump and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa came to a head Wednesday afternoon in a tense exchange in the Oval Office, as Mr. Trump confronted him over whether White genocide is taking place in South Africa.

Mr. Trump and Ramaphosa met for a critical conversation — with South African-born billionaire Elon Musk in the room — amid tensions between the U.S. and South Africa, after the U.S. accepted 59 White Afrikaners last week and granted them status as refugees.

At one point in the meeting, Ramaphosa took a question intended for Mr. Trump about what it would take to persuade him that White genocide is not occurring in South Africa.

"It will take President Trump listening to the voices of South Africans, some of whom are his good friends, like those who are here," responded Ramaphosa, who brought South African golfers Ernie Els and Retief Goosen and billionaire businessman Johann Rupert with him to the White House. "When we have talks between us at a quiet table, it will take President Trump to listen to them. I will not be repeating what I've been saying." ...

A group of eight migrants are being held in the small African country of Djibouti after a judge said the Trump administration's attempt to fly them to South Sudan "unquestionably" violated a court order, President Trump confirmed Thursday.

Mr. Trump lashed out at U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy, who ordered the government to "maintain custody and control" of the migrants Tuesday. Attorneys say the migrants were put on a flight to violence-plagued South Sudan, allegedly violating an earlier order by Murphy requiring migrants to be given certain due...

Some U.S. homeowners may soon get a sizable tax break thanks to the massive budget package that was passed by the House early Thursday.

The legislation — dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — includes a provision that would lift the tax deduction cap for state and local taxes, or SALT, to $40,000 from its current $10,000 limit. That could provide tax savings for homeowners with high property taxes or who earn enough to have significant state income tax liabilities.

The SALT deduction cap was introduced by Mr. Trump in his 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs...

A federal judge in Massachusetts on Thursday issued an injunction blocking the Trump administration from dismantling the Department of Education and ordering that fired employees be reinstated.

“The record abundantly reveals that Defendants’ true intention is to effectively dismantle the Department without an authorizing statute,” U.S. District Judge Myong Joun wrote, noting "the Department cannot be shut down without Congress’s approval."

The judge said an injunction was necessary because “The supporting declarations of former Department...

"The president can declassify anything that he wants. Has he looked to see if there are any records here that would contradict what we've been told about Joe Biden's decline?" Fox News' Peter Doocy asked Leavitt during the Thursday press briefing.

It's a severe consequence for what DHS claims is Harvard's refusal to comply with its requests for behavioral records of student visa holders.

"This administration is holding Harvard accountable for fostering violence, antisemitism, and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party on its campus," said Secretary Kristi Noem. "It is a privilege, not a right, for...
