Oh, but he's only joking - well, maybe, so they say. Or sort of joking with Canada, and maybe not joking with Greenland - saying that "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" doesn't sound like a joke . . . and um, not sure about what the about Panama Canal thing is?

These arses want to start a war...

this is my own opinion - Trump will "move assets" there - including US Citizens - just "squat" on Greenland and then claim it as US for "security reasons"

    Just like Putin with Crimea/Donbas.

He following same playbook- albeit just a few hairs different so as not to look EXACTLY like Putin.

With one exception; Denmark is a member of NATO and when they enact the self defense clause, NATO will come running! Who will we call to our defense, Russia??? Ha, they and THEIR allies will just sit back and watch as we self destruct.

They will just be deported back to the US

i think he banking on that and deportation to attempt to sour public opinion.

As JD Vance touched down in Greenland, the Trump administration received an unlikely endorsement for the US’s first potential territorial expansion since 1947: Vladimir Putin.

Speaking at an Arctic policy forum in the northern Russian city of Murmansk on Thursday, Putin presented a more comprehensive case than any US official yet for Donald Trump’s plan to annex Greenland, crafting a historical argument that sounded suspiciously convenient in terms of Russia’s own territorial designs on Ukraine.

The US’s plans to take control of Greenland “may surprise someone only at first glance, and it is a deep mistake to believe that this is some kind of extravagant talk by the new American administration,” Putin began. “Nothing of the sort.”……

A d I would bet Trump got the blessing from Putin.

Uh, not so fast.....Greenland is a member of NATO, above would not happen.....

Agreed, but these guys are so stupid that they believe that we can stand alone in a fight against Europe. They don't know what they don't know.

Agreed, but these guys are so stupid that they believe that we can stand alone in a fight against Europe. They don't know what they don't know.

Currently, England, Canada, Brazil, and Sweden are in discussions about replacing the U.S.-produced engine in the Gripen fighter with Rolls-Royce engines from the UK. While the Rolls-Royce engines are nearly twice as expensive as the current U.S. engines, a large joint order could drive costs down. Additionally, the British engines have significantly lower maintenance costs, making them a more cost-effective choice in the long run.

European nations are acutely aware of the instability and unpredictability of the current U.S. leadership. As a result, they are actively working to reduce reliance on American-made weapons systems to safeguard their security from potential political leverage.

Beyond this strategic shift, the Gripen also outperforms the F-35 in drone warfare and is far more affordable in terms of general maintenance. If these deals move forward, more European nations may follow suit—potentially canceling existing F-35 orders that have not yet been delivered.

Europe has no illusions about the risks posed by the current U.S. administration. Leaders across the continent are taking decisive steps to ensure they cannot be strong-armed or blackmailed, knowing that Trump has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to use such tactics for personal and political gain.

The more you think about this, the more alarming it is.

So we have Vance, in Greenland, saying the US needs control of it to fend off China and Russia.

And we have Putin saying, in effect, sounds good to us!

That's obviously not what you would expect; Russia would not, typically, be down with US expansion that's explicitly and ostensibly aimed against Russia.

The best case is that Russia is down with this, because the US already had the necessary access to Greenland, and access to future resources, because they're allies, and that's how being allies works. So in that scenario, Russia is just opportunistically encouraging division between allies on the grounds that it'll actually give the US less access and ability to compete with Russia in the region.

The worst case is that Russia is down with it because it's a sham and a carve up, that is, they know the Trump administration has no intention of acting against Russian interests, and it's just a pretext.

And that would be even more alarming, because obviously US administrations should, in principle, change; that is, if that were the case, Russia should still be against it, because even if they were OK with a Trump administration occupying Greenland on the basis that the Trump administration wasn't really going to act against Russian interests, they should expect that a future administration very much would. So Russia should, in principle, be against US military expansion in the region (whether that's by occupation or through existing arrangements). And if they're not, that rather implies they don't think a future US administration would be acting against Russian interests...

I have lived here in Canada for a minute now, and I have never seen anything like what I'm seeing now when it comes to anti-American sentiment. We're boycotting everything we reasonably can. Grocery stores are stacked with US goods while Canadian goods (now labelled as such) are flying off the shelves. Grocery store up here had strawberries from Mexico and the US in a couple of bins next to each other. The Mexican ones were more expensive and pretty much gone, while the US ones sat.

Airline bookings for US-bound flights out of Canada are down 75% from last April to this April.

We're also seeing the Trump effect on the Prime Minister election that was *just* called and Canadians will be voting at the end of April. The Liberals were dead in the water with the Conservatives sailing to a majority government.

Polls have gone from Conservatives +25% over the Liberals to Conservatives -25% under the Liberals. A 50 point swing! It's nuts.
