Oh, but he's only joking - well, maybe, so they say. Or sort of joking with Canada, and maybe not joking with Greenland - saying that "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" doesn't sound like a joke . . . and um, not sure about what the about Panama Canal thing is?

Greenland has accused the Trump administration of being “highly aggressive” by sending a delegation of senior officials to the territory this week.

President Donald Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz is visiting Greenland early this week with the U.S. energy secretary Chris Wright, according to reports, in addition to a separate trip by Second Lady Usha Vance on Thursday.

The trips come after Trump’s repeated threats to annex the autonomous territory.

Greenland’s prime minister Mute B. Egede was quoted in a Greenlandic newspaper Sundayfuriously questioning why Waltz was visiting.

“We are now at a level where it can in no way be characterized as a harmless visit from a politician's wife,” Egede said, according to Greenland’s Sermitsiaq newspaper. “What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.”…….

    It certainly feels quite pre-textual.

As wealthy but lightly defended countries have often learned, being close to a much more powerful state – geographically or diplomatically – can be a precarious existence.

All it takes is an aggressive new government in the stronger state and a relatively equal relationship of economic and military cooperation can suddenly turn exploitative, even threatening.

Since Donald Trump’s second inauguration, this realisation has been dawning across the west, but nowhere more disconcertingly than in Canada.

Its border with the US is the longest in the world: 5,525 miles of often empty and hard to defend land, lakes and rivers. Canada’s two biggest cities, Toronto and Montreal, are only a few hours to the north, were you to approach them in a US army tank.

Earlier this month, I spent a week in some of this particularly vulnerable stretch of Ontario and Quebec, visiting my daughter at university and encountering a new, more anxious Canada.

At times, as the trains I took crawled along the congested trans-Canadian rail corridor, the roofs of individual American buildings were visible, glinting in the cold sun across the border.

The feeling of being a foreigner in a tense, contested place reminded me of when I lived in West Germany, near the East German border, during the early 1980s, one of the most fraught phases of the cold war.

Until Trump started talking so insistently about making Canada his country’s “51st state”, that would have been an absurd comparison. But not any more.

“The Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country,” said the new Canadian prime minister, Mark Carney, in his first speech as Liberal leader.

“If they succeed, they will destroy our way of life.” Supposedly one of the most harmonious – and strategically important – relationships between rich western countries appears to have changed radically………

Here is Trump on the US "delegation" visiting Greenland on the request of "many many people- some officials, many officials but also many many people"

Oh and i didnt lose sight of the fact that the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES has no idea what JD Vance's wifes name is. No idea. So just "wife of our VP"

They were not invited and they were not wanted in any way...

They were not invited and they were not wanted in any way...

Most of us know this. Same reason not a single Greenland official greeted them on the tarmac upon arrival.

When Trump states "many many people" its a lie. Thats his go to line when needed. No names, just "many people/officials"

How did they travel there? Do you need a visa or something?

We have a military base there. They flew in via military planes and then drove in.

    Modern day Lebensraum.

And I wonder, did this admin go absolutely berserk bc Canada dumped our treasury bonds the last few months? Japan hinted they may do that as well. If we are not careful, our allies plus China can destroy our economy.

id venture to guess that the administration has ZERO awareness of what it means economically.

That would require basic knowledge of economics which this Administration clearly lacks.

    Murica First amirite?

Trump will offset those losses with the $5,000,000 green card sales or simply place another $USA meme coin offering to bolster his...errr, US coffers.

I saw this from a clip of the 11th hour w ruhle. All these cuts to American jobs amount to just 1 day of interest repayment to our debt. For that, we are losing considerable expertise. And as a reminder...none of these cuts would be considered "inefficiencies". The stupid got played again.

Our man child President is coming off like a spoiled brat who once again is going to cry and show out until he gets his greedy way. So embarrassing that he is terrifying so many with this garbage idea. They are a free country and will not bow to Lord Trumps whims. Hang in there Greenland.

I think this was probably the reason for only going to the US base. Kind of hard to sell the "Greenland wants this" when massive demonstrations against their presence were ready to roll.

The risk of negative coverage in the media and social networks may have weighed even more," he added, noting that a demonstration was announced in Sisimiut, following an initial anti-US demonstration in the capital Nuuk on March 15.
