Oh, but he's only joking - well, maybe, so they say. Or sort of joking with Canada, and maybe not joking with Greenland - saying that "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" doesn't sound like a joke . . . and um, not sure about what the about Panama Canal thing is?

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Southern Republicans are pushing their states to formally embrace the name Gulf of America — the name President Donald Trump has bestowed on the Gulf of Mexico — and require its use on maps, textbooks and signs.

This week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed two bills requiring the use of “Gulf of America” in state law and textbooks. Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry in March signed an executive order directing state materials to reflect the name change.

The Louisiana Department of Education announced an update to state social studies standards to reflect the name change.

Republicans are looking to cement the use of the new name designated by Trump, saying it is a point of national pride. Some Democrats have criticized the efforts as a transparent political measure.

The Alabama House of Representatives on Thursday voted 72-26 to advance legislation to require state and local government entities and their employees to use the name Gulf of America.

It would also require state and local entities to make “reasonable efforts” to update maps, textbooks, websites, and other materials. The bill, which passed on a vote split along party lines, now moves to the Alabama Senate…….

What? They have nothing more important to do than waste time with this bullschlitz?

Not just this, but big picture wise, I imagine the hand of God materializing to slap the shirt out of Trump while saying, “Normally I don’t get involved, but for this moron, and your horrible choice in leadership, I’ll make an exception.

the assumption and operating from the angle that China, Russia, NK and Iran are truly adversaries is a problem. We have shown, up to this point, that Trump wants to befriend/normalize Russia and NK. Possibly, China thru tariff pressure and Iran thru military threat. At the very least, China and Iran subservient to US

Speaker Mike Johnson is running into some resistance from fellow House Republicans on a bill to codify President Donald Trump’s push to rename the Gulf of Mexico.

Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon said Tuesday he will oppose the vote later this week, which is expected in the House Thursday, complicating matters for Johnson and GOP leaders in their slim majority.

At this point in the week, two GOP leadership sources told CNN they still believe the bill can pass, though Johnson cannot afford to lose many more votes. Few, if any, Democrats are expected to vote for the bill, according to multiple Democratic members and senior aides.

“It just seems juvenile,” Bacon told CNN. “We’re the United States of America. We’re not Kaiser Wilhelm’s Germany or Napoleon’s France. I just – we’re better than this. It just sounds like a sophomore thing to do.”

The bill, which was authored by Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, would require federal agencies to update all maps and documents with the “Gulf of America” instead of the Gulf of Mexico.

Bacon is not the only House Republican who is throwing cold water on the measure.

The issue came up during a heated meeting of House Republicans on Monday night, in which Bacon, along with Reps. Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin and Jay Obernolte of California, criticized the bill, according to a person in the room.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer then urged members not to choose this issue as their “hill to die on,” that person said.............
