Oh, but he's only joking - well, maybe, so they say. Or sort of joking with Canada, and maybe not joking with Greenland - saying that "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" doesn't sound like a joke . . . and um, not sure about what the about Panama Canal thing is?

President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to announce that the United States will begin referring to the Persian Gulf as the “Arabian Gulf” or “Gulf of Arabia” in a snub to Iran.

Two administration officials have told theAssociated Press that Trump will visit the region next week, touring Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. He is set to make the announcement as a friendly overture to his hosts.

The body of water, lying between eastern Saudi Arabia and the southwestern coast of Iran, has been widely known by its current name since the 16th century. However, the region’s Arab nations have preferred a designation closer to Trump’s.…….

What the fork is with this guy? Can someone sew his mouth shut, please.

Speaker Mike Johnson is running into some resistance from fellow House Republicans on a bill to codify President Donald Trump’s push to rename the Gulf of Mexico.

Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon said Tuesday he will oppose the vote later this week, which is expected in the House Thursday, complicating matters for Johnson and GOP leaders in their slim majority.

At this point in the week, two GOP leadership sources told CNN they still believe the bill can pass, though Johnson cannot afford to lose many more votes. Few, if any, Democrats are expected to vote for the bill, according to multiple Democratic members and senior aides.

“It just seems juvenile,” Bacon told CNN. “We’re the United States of America. We’re not Kaiser Wilhelm’s Germany or Napoleon’s France. I just – we’re better than this. It just sounds like a sophomore thing to do.”

The bill, which was authored by Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, would require federal agencies to update all maps and documents with the “Gulf of America” instead of the Gulf of Mexico.

Bacon is not the only House Republican who is throwing cold water on the measure.

The issue came up during a heated meeting of House Republicans on Monday night, in which Bacon, along with Reps. Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin and Jay Obernolte of California, criticized the bill, according to a person in the room.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer then urged members not to choose this issue as their “hill to die on,” that person said.............

Anything to pleasure the Mad Hatter, spread those legs…🤔

House Republicans on Thursday approved a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America,” the first step in codifying one of the executive orders President Trump signed on Inauguration Day.

The chamber cleared the legislation — titled the “Gulf of America Act” — in a 211-206 vote, sending it to the Senate for consideration, where its future looks dim. At least seven Democrats would need to join all Republicans in supporting the legislation for it to pass, an unlikely scenario.

For now, however, Republicans are touting House passage of the measure as a victory for Trump’s agenda and his “America first” mantra. In a sign of the excitement among Republicans, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) displayed a large sign outside his office depicting a map with the “Gulf of America” label.

“Names matter,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who sponsored the legislation, said on the House floor Thursday. “Parents take a lot of time when they think about what to name a child that they’re happy to welcome in the world because they have pride and they’re to welcome their new baby into the world and that’s why they take pride in the name that they name their child.”

“And as we rename the gulf the Gulf of America we are also taking pride in those waters,” she added. “There are an estimated half a million businesses operating along the gulf coast. The gulf is a major economic hub, particularly for oil and gas production.”………..

Mexico has sued Google for changing the Gulf of Mexico’s name to “Gulf of America” for Google Maps users in the United States, Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s president, said on Friday.

“The lawsuit has already been filed,” Sheinbaum said at her morning news conference, without saying where and when it was submitted.

On Thursday, Republicans in the House of Representatives approved legislation to codify Donald Trump’s policy of renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America”.

The measure was sponsored by rightwing Georgia lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene and passed nearly along party lines, with all Democrats opposed and almost every Republican, with the exception of vulnerable Nebraska representative Don Bacon, voting in favor.

The bill would make the name change official for federal agencies, but it’s unlikely to attract the Democratic support needed to pass the Senate. Even if it did, other countries have no obligation to use the new name.

Sheinbaum had warned Google, which is part of tech giant Alphabet, in February that she was considering legal action unless the company reversed its decision.

Her government argues that Trump’s executive order on the subject only applies to the part of the continental shelf belonging to the United States.

“All we want is for the decree issued by the US government to be complied with,” Sheinbaum said.

“The US government only calls the portion of the US continental shelf the Gulf of America, not the entire gulf, because it wouldn’t have the authority to name the entire gulf,” she added.…..
