I’m sure much of us are having 2016 flashbacks this morning with a sick feeling to our stomachs..

2 of the last 3 elections Democrats have lost to a far right demagogue

Harris didn’t get close in many states to even Biden’s performance. We could very well lose the Presidency, Senate AND House depending on results the next few days…..

    What went wrong?
    What could’ve been done better?
What can we change in the future to ensure voters are motivated like they were when Obama was elected?

Democrats have no choice but to admit there’s a huge problem with some aspect of their platform— and to do a deep introspection of what’s going wrong..

    Who are the conservatives here?

There are a few, but they aren't MAGA.

MAGA usually is so insulated when they come here, and actually have to debate topics. It goes extremely poor for them. It's usually the first time they've been confronted with counterfacts, and have to figure out how to defend their beliefs.

I personally think sychophantic nature of MAGA is at odds with honest debate, and changing opinions based on facts. This in turn leads to flameouts, and ugly blowup, or trolling. It's happened so many times now.

I don't disagree with you. I am just saying it is anti-american. And when it influences elections it is real. I am just happy my side controls it now.

The fact that you think those capitalist billionaires are on you side is comical. I mean Musk, fine. He lost his marbles during COVID and has become a reactionary right wing troll. But the rest of them that are now prostrating themselves before Donny boy? :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

This is why/how they continue to win, by pitting the middle/lower class against the middle/lower class using fear, anger, conservative religious ideology and distrust of anything progressive. Keep voting Republican and you'll keep getting the same crap. Enjoy the billionaires lowering their tax burden while raising ours and fleecing the government thus putting it further into debt for the next four years. That's what you voted for!

So who are the conservatives? If the person portends to be a conservative, we can start with supporting abortion. If the person supports an abortion, they are not conservative. We can discuss if you would like.

I am well aware that Trump isn't a conservative. Instead of asking why I voted for Trump and support him, y'all would rather tell me why i voted for him.

I respectfully disagree as it pertains to abortion. I am a conservative and while I do NOT support unrestricted abortion, I do believe women have a right to control their own bodies and health just as men. It’s an equal protection matter with me. I realize there are other considerations as it pertains to abortion as it involves constitutional rights of persons unborn. This is a discussion that needs to be had but it won’t happen unless and until both sides quit demonizing the other over this issue.

Fair. I think the basis of conservatism starts with life. I am a very strong Catholic, so maybe I am eschewed on the subject. Thanks for your honesty.

I will share a personal story. We had a female customer and a female worker. During the transaction the customer is showing the worker pictures from her reveal party. We had another female worker walk up and say, if that is yours, the color will probably be white as you are the type to have an abortion.

I don't understand the reference to white honestly. The worker got very emotional and asked her manager if she could leave for the day. As soon as I saw the email, my heart sank. This young lady ( don't know this for a fact) had an abortion in the past and it weighs on her emotionally. So many women in the country are living with extreme guilt over their choice. It is heart breaking. I have been praying for this young lady. I will probably see her in the next coming weeks and I am not sure how to or what I should do. I hope my prayers give me guidance to help her.

Anyway, abortion is like an addict. Whether we know it or not, we all know people very close to us who are suffering because of these sensitive issues.

I understand your point. However, we have a right as individuals to make decisions regarding our own health as well as many other non health matters. We accept the consequences. No one can guarantee that we won’t have regrets. There is no way the legislate that.

Women have a right as a human being to make their own decisions as it regards their health. We should start there. Were this any other health decision, there would be no question. That’s equal protection under the law.

The complicating or aggravating issue in the matter is that it involves whether an unborn life exists and when and if that unborn life has rights that supersedes the rights of the mother.

That’s what this is all about. I don’t have the answer. But this isn’t and shouldn’t be a religious issue. It should be a legal and scientific discussion.

I disagree ( i agree it is a personal decision). It is a religious issue for many. And we have that right to fight for life. Until someone can show me where something other than a baby is formed in the womb of a woman, it is a life at conception. Now, I am not trying to tell anyone what to do. IT IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS!

However, I surely have the right to teach my children and other young couples that I interact with the preciousness of life. Yes, I would love a national abortion ban. And that is solely based on my religious beliefs. I appreciate individual states being able to make the decision based on the citizens of that state. Just because I don't agree with it, doesn't mean I don't respect the law. It also doesn't mean that I have to support the decision if a state votes to have abortion. And by support, I am strictly talking about in my own my heart and mind.

I also understand the adverse is true as well. You or anyone else have a right to your opinion based on whatever facts you deem you want to use and I respect that despite whether I agree with it. I pray young women never have to experience the grief of coming to the realization that they killed their child. If you have never met someone that lives with this grief, it is a tough road.

You can’t say “IT IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS!” immediately followed with “I’d love a National abortion ban”

Wanting to force the whole country to follow your religious views and morals is the very definition of wanting to make it your business

How am I forcing anything? I don't have a say on what the voters do in California. But I hope they vote down abortion. I don't have say whether there is a national abortion ban, but I would be happy if there was. I am pretty sure my stance is very consistent.

...and what would be the basis for a national ban?

The national ban that you will be happy to see enacted.
Ok, I am confused. There is no ban or one in the works as far as I know. However, if one was on the ballot, I would vote for it. If powers that be decided there would be a national ban, I would be happy. I am not exactly sure what you are asking of me.

It's a simple question. What would be the reasoning behind such a ban?

There is no ban. I am not sure what you want me to say. Would you like me come up with scenario that a national ban may take place? Not sure what the point is of your questioning. I surely don't mind answering, but I don't know what to answer to your hypothetical.
