It’s so repulsive to see people cheering for what is basically 80% the same thing as the Holocaust - different end result but otherwise very similar.

Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

Is it going to actually happen or is this Build The Wall 2.0?

There was a time when “President issues executive order overturning constitutional amendment” would be an administration’s laughable lowlight

We’ll see if this ends up even making the top ten

The argument fails plain language and the original/historical view - because it was clearly intended to exclude children of diplomats and Indian tribes (at a time where tribal sovereignty was still a thing).

Alito and Thomas are clearly going to have to do some contortion on this one. But you would think that the status quo before it gets to SCOTUS will be to enjoin it.
Since I am paranoid I think Alito and Thomas will just say that the verbiage applied to former slaves. At least three others will follow along. Roberts might not.

And yet he(Trump) won. So what does that say about the Democrats and their ideologies, their leadership, their candidates, their policy proposals, their campaign and their record over the last 4 years.

Seems to me if Trump and Republicans are as bad as you say, the other party should have beaten him handily and yet they didn’t.

I dunno. Maybe both parties are out of touch? Maybe they both need to step up their game? Maybe we need better candidates and better leadership all around?
So, if it's popular, it must be good?

Wasn't aware I needed to inform you legal citizens can not be deported generally.
If you are launching a wholesale massive operation to deport millions. Do you think there is 0 chance those officials make a mistake? Does the agency need to prove you're a non-citizen prior to dragging someone out of their house or is simply not being able to present your papers immediately enough cause to arrest and deport? Will a real ID compliant license be sufficient? Maybe my passport will be, but most folks don't have one. Can I find my birth certificate?

How many times would someone like me be pulled over, detained, questioned, potentially locked up, then eventually released due to this?

The point is that most people don't think this through and also don't think it will affect them. This also only implies Mexican or central American folks, which are the majority. But there are plenty of other illegals.. black, white, etc.

I’m not sure any process can be guaranteed to be error free. Especially processes involving human beings.

The major issue with this is racial profiling and prejudice.

If you are Black, Hispanic, or Asian, you might be forced to carry proof of citizenship at all times, constantly risking being stopped and asked to prove your status. Meanwhile, white individuals could go about their lives without the same scrutiny.

What happens if your 13-year-old son, who is already 6 feet tall, gets stopped? How is he supposed to prove his citizenship? Should he be expected to carry ID—what kind, exactly—even when just heading to the ballpark or the pool? And what happens if he doesn’t have it on him? Would he risk being detained?

How long would it take for someone who is repeatedly forced to prove they are a U.S. citizen to start feeling ostracized and unwelcome in their own country?

They don’t care, dragon, that’s the worst part. MAGA sees zero problem with ostracizing and inconveniencing people who don’t look like them. And people like Joe will just shrug their shoulders at it.

Courting disaster is what it actually is. And for no good reason. The immigrant crime wave is made up out of whole cloth. Manufactured to excuse racist behavior.

Agreed. That being said, we do have a massive immigration problem. This, however, is not the fix.

The problem would be significantly reduced if no one hired illegal immigrants or if employers who exploit them faced severe penalties. The reality, however, is that many employers actively seek out undocumented workers precisely because they have no rights.

These workers won’t complain about unpaid wages or deductions for "accommodations" in overcrowded, miserable living conditions. They won’t protest against being overworked or placed in dangerous working environments. And if they do, employers can easily silence them by threatening to report them to the authorities.

    Resist and suffer the consequences
    =======================

The Trump administration late Tuesday directed federal prosecutors nationwide to investigate and potentially prosecute state and local officials who don’t cooperate with the president’s plans to carry out the largest mass deportation campaign in U.S. history, according to a document obtained by The Washington Post.

In a memo to Justice Department employees, acting deputy attorney general Emil Bove wrote that the Supremacy Clause of the Constitutionand other legal authorities, “require state and local actors to comply with the Executive Branch’s immigration enforcement initiatives.”

“Federal law prohibits state and local actors from resisting, obstructing, and otherwise failing to comply with lawful immigration-related commands,” wrote Bove, a former federal prosecutor who spent recent years in private practice and was one of Donald Trump’s defense lawyers in his criminal cases.

Bove ordered U.S. attorneys’ offices nationwide to “investigate incidents involving any such misconduct for potential prosecution,” including for harboring an immigrant in the United States illegally, failing to share information about a person’s immigration status with the federal government and conspiracy — crimes that carry potential prison terms upon conviction.

Any refusals to prosecute someone for “resistance, obstruction or other noncompliance” with commands or requests from U.S. immigration officers will be sent to the Justice Department as an “urgent” report, the memo says.

Give’s directive, which responds to executive orders Trump signed on his first day in office Monday, is likely to face fierce blowback from legal advocacy groups and officials in cities and states led by Democrats. Those jurisdictions tussled with Trump over the issue during his first term.………

Justice Department says it will prosecute local officials over immigration enforcement

I've brought up several times how interesting it is how little the employers are mentioned

Lawmakers in Huntington Beach voted unanimously to declare the city a “non-sanctuary city” while also issuing a fawning statement, pledging fealty to the Trump administration.

In the 7-0 vote brought on by Mayor Pat Burns, city council members opted to take up a more stringent and hostile immigration policy in line with “the federal government, the Trump Administration, and Border Czar Tom Homan’s work”, a press release issued Wednesday read.

Sanctuary cities are typically seen as more accessible to immigrants because they “do not honor U.S. Immigration and Customs (ICE) detainer requests to hold criminal aliens who are already in their custody”, according to the DHS – and therefore view immigration as a benefit to the community.

The surfer’s paradise has gradually become more conservative since 2023 after the city tried to replace Black History Month and Pride with the holidays “Black Gold Jubilee” – to celebrate oil in the city’s history, and “Revolutionary and Civil War” month, to pay homage by holding an re-enactment of the civil war in a public park.…..

In the statement, Mayor Burns said: ‘I am pleased the City Council unanimously supported my initiative. This will be another effective tool to combat crime and it will be a signal to would-be criminals, do not come to Huntington Beach.”

The band of councilors have taken the community by surprise and declared the city’s new status with immediate effect……

Buckle up, this could somehow end up being even worse that we fear it might be
    ===========================

Donald Trump’s administration rescinded long-standing policy that prohibits federal immigration authorities from enforcement actions in places like schools, daycare centers, hospitals, churches and other so-called “sensitive areas” as the president lays the groundwork for his “mass deportation” agenda.

“Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America’s schools and churches to avoid arrest,” a Department of Homeland Securityspokesperson said in a statement. “The TrumpAdministration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement, and instead trusts them to use common sense.”

For more than a decade, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection agents had been restricted from arrests in “sensitive” sites without approval from more senior officials.

The latest directive under Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman rescinds previous guidance under Joe Biden’s administration, which further established “protected areas,” including places where “children gather, disaster or emergency relief sites, and social services establishments.”………

“The Biden administration will deploy 1,500 additional military personnel to augment security at the southern border, U.S. officials said Tuesday, as the looming end of pandemic-era immigration policies has officials bracing for a surge in illegal crossings.”

“U.S. military personnel have augmented federal border operations for years. The 1,500 troops whose deployment was announced Tuesday will join another 2,500 service members already assigned to the southern border, a second U.S. official said.”

So they’ll be joining Biden’s contingent at the border.
