It’s so repulsive to see people cheering for what is basically 80% the same thing as the Holocaust - different end result but otherwise very similar.

Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

Is it going to actually happen or is this Build The Wall 2.0?

You can lose the snark. There are over 300 sources in the Wikipedia article. Pick one.
Snark? I doubt seriously that you want to line by line that article. Or the wiki for that matter.

Would you like to do it together?

MT nor Rob read the wiki article nor the references. So I picked out a nice paragraph. Again please point to something in the article that shows voter suppression.

For decades, the Republican Party has supported election integrity initiatives—measures to reduce voter fraud (which is exceedingly rare in the United States[35][36]) but which critics have alleged are attempts at voter suppression.[37][38][39][40] As summarized by the Associated Press, "stronger voting regulations have long been a conservative goal, driven by old – and some say outdated – conventional wisdom that Republicans thrive in elections with lower turnout, and Democrats in ones with more voters. That has translated to GOP efforts to tighten voter identification laws and require more frequent voter roll purges. Both efforts tend to disproportionally exclude Black and Latino voters, groups that lean Democratic

If purging voter logs is illegal, change the law. Every good company managers their customers. We purge customers all the time. But again, where is the S&D (i am tired of typing it)
You're clearly cherry picking the article and ignoring the bits you don't like. No-one is going to waste time leading your horse to water when you're obviously not going to let it drink. That horse can just die.

And that said, I'm not sure, "No, Republicans really are so fragile/gullible/stupid that they genuinely believe there's mass voting fraud and these are genuinely necessary initiatives, all of them, I totally buy that" is the winning argument you apparently think it is.

School officials across the country are taking steps to prepare for an onslaught of new deportations under Donald Trump, including the potential that the new administration breaks with longstanding policy and conducts raids at schools themselves.

Districts in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Phoenix have all vowed not to voluntarily assist federal immigration officials, and are training staff about what to do in the event of a request from Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“This community has a high population of undocumented and mixed-status families,” a Phoenix-area school board president, Anna Lynn Abeytia, told The Arizona Republic. “I think families are extremely worried.”

There are an estimated 400,000 undocumented students in higher education across the U.S., and roughly 733,000 school-aged children in the U.S. overall…….

The Trump administration is reportedly planning to begin its promised campaign of unprecedented mass deportations with a series of raids in Chicago.

The raids will begin the day after the Republican is inaugurated, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The operation will include as many as 200 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, and will target scores of migrants, including those with low-level criminal histories that would’ve been deemed low priority by the Biden administration.….

Trump would likely target cities with Democratic mayors first—and possibly only. He would avoid states where his donors rely on cheap, undocumented labor, such as Florida, unless it serves their interests by driving down wages and worsening working conditions (longer hours, extreme heat, lack of safety equipment), all exacerbated by workers' fear of deportation.

it seems very convenient that there is no talk about additional penalties for businesses that hire undocumented workers since these people are so worried about illegal immigration. How about suspending business licenses and requiring I-9 e-verify for every employee.

Since Trump properties has been known to hire illegal immigrants I think you can forget that. And the same goes for many of his top donors

that will never happen as a lot of them are republicans. those same businesses have been complaining about the lack of workers. so if they push back against trump as usual he will fold like a piece of toilet paper.

In summer 2017, the Trump administration began quietly separating families at the US-Mexico border.

Under the “zero-tolerance” policy formally announced months later, federal immigration authorities removed children as young as four months old from parents or adults who were seeking asylum.

The administration didn’t announce any plans for reunification.

As Trump 2.0 grows closer and closer, so does the unease of the lawyers and advocates who have spent years locating, representing and reuniting these families.

Organizations Justice in Motion, Kids in Need of Defense and the Women’s Refugee Commission, along with the global private law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, formed a court-appointed steering committee after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed the 2018 class action lawsuit Ms L v US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to stop separations at the southern border. While a judge halted Trump’s policy, some families still remain separated.

How many are still apart is a mystery. “Given the lack of records, it’s impossible to know precisely how many families remain separated,” said Lee Gelernt, lead attorney in the Ms L litigation and a deputy director of the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project. “We think there may be around a thousand families or more that we can’t confirm have been reunited.”…….

This is how you know this entire project is meant to be punitive and political. Aside from the depravity of the entire situation, it’s a despicable act to choose Chicago.

If they were sincere in any of this - in their supposed belief that undocumented immigrants are a huge problem - they wouldn’t choose Chicago. They would start with Texas or Florida, where the state government is complaining vociferously. They only chose Chicago to stir up shirt in a democratic city in a democratic state. Nobody in Chicago is asking for this.

Some people who put them in office ate it up like mouse on cheese though.

If they start out only going after people who have already been ordered removed, then we shouldn't complain.

That isn't what he promised though.

If he deports people already ordered removed, and liberals throw a hissy fit, and he doesn't do anything else, his idiot supporters will assume he did what he promised, and not only about 5% of it.

Apparently San Antonio is one of the cities on the list for the initial mass raids. Probably a favor to his lackey Abbot since the Republicans here hate any city that opposes their rule. Fun times ahead, I'm sure.

To be clear, nobody in this city has asked for this because of problems with illegal migrants. We're fine and don't particularly want the disruption that these mass raids are going to cause.

That’s a good point that they can fool people if Democrats complain about merritted deportations. I heard on CNN that Democrats won’t object to any deportations of criminals. Biden was already doing that. Most favor that. It’s when they start wasting resources to go after people who are abiding by the law.

Fun fact (I can’t remember where I read it now, but it was a good source): under Trump during his first term the deportation rate of criminals was actually worse than under Biden. Trump didn’t prioritize deportations of criminals like Obama and Biden did.

Try convincing any MAGA of that fact. They believe every lie that he says.

I just read about that. It would revoke Kamala Harris’ citizenship. Or rather it would if she were born today. It revokes citizenship for babies born to people here on temporary visas. So even if people are here lawfully, it revokes citizenship for their children.
