House Select Committee Hearings on Jan. 6 (1 Viewer)

My question wasn’t so much of a legal issue…it was more of setting the precedent that a president might have to worry about SS testifying against them.

President meets some hottie at a convention, and orders his sec detail to leave so they can’t see what he does, creating a security concern.

    There's already a precedent:

That’s my question too. He wouldn’t have been up front - so did he jump up and lean through the screen?

Earlier in the testimony, they showed a clip of Trump leaving in the motorcade and it appeared he was in the right rear passenger seat of an SUV and not the limo. I have no idea how the interior of that is outfitted, but proximity to the driver wouldn't have prevented his easily reaching over.

To be honest, I'm kind of sitting here thinking that it's surprising that the SS detail refused the president's request. I can only surmise that someone like Meadows instructed them.
Legal counsel, maybe, because it appears that Meadows wasn’t doing anything by that point.

    What the fork?

I get Flynn taking the 5th on all of the other questions Cheney asked, but when she asked him "Do you believe in the peaceful transfer of power in the United States?" HE TOOK THE FIFTH?
Better than perjury, if he knew he’d been making statements against it.

Austin should call Flynn back to active duty and court-martial his arse.

It's definitely one of those rare chain-of-command moments that are probably fictionalized more often than they actually happen.

Can Secret Service override the president's commands if they believe there is a serious threat to his safety? They would have been transporting him to a location that hadn't been previously screened after knowing there were armed people in the crowd.

Yes, this, evidently Pence thought the Secret Service would remove him from the Capitol against his wishes, for his safety or other reasons

I don't know the answer to that question. It's sensible, but do they really have authority to "override" the president's direct instruction?
