Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

The ‘man’ (of course) wanted a change, so he vested himself in the mafia to look out for his needs. There’s an enormous price to be paid for such folly because turning to a corrupt, Incompetant, mentally ill conman for relief, he more than deserves what he gets, but the rest of us don’t. Sadly a great number of us appear not to care (56% voter non-participation). This plus environmental collapse could make quite the spectacular pyre of our folly. 🔥

So you’re one of the 56m who could not be bothered with or decided to allow the US Govt becoming a Trump Tool? What do you see as the end game here, or have you put any thought into it? 🤔
As I said, I have never voted for Trump.

We have a represntative democracy and a Constitution that has worked pretty well for 250 years. My end game is to trust in our system of government and the voters. It has worked thus far.

I can't imagine actually having this view when Mike Pence is the only reason we didn't have our first coup.

Ya think? You think everyone would have just gone along after that? Just thrown in the towel. You think we are that easy to over throw. I dont think so.

You can think that if you wish. Up to you.

is this too much?
===========

I knew he voted red. He knew I voted blue. I had hoped the most capable and most inclusive candidate would win. He hoped his idea of a better America would win. He won, and, from where I stand, America lost.

In the aftermath of Tuesday night’s results, still under the bed covers Wednesday morning, I scrolled social media looking for hope. I unfriended a few short-sighted FB friends— no need to continue our digital relationships and witness their selfishness and hate. Then I saw my husband’s post.

“God Bless America. God bless #45, 47.”

It had a few likes, and a few commenters joined him in his celebration. He was downstairs in the kitchen making coffee, and I was upstairs avoiding him. I couldn’t talk to him — or even look at him

I immediately texted, “I love you, but out of respect for me and all my liberal writer friends, can you please take down that post? Also, tell your family I love them, but I will not be coming for Thanksgiving, and I won’t be hosting Christmas. I need space.”

Shortly after I sent the text, he brought me a cup of coffee in bed.

“I am sorry,” he said, “I understand.”

Did he? Did he really understand what he and so many others in this country had done? I could not forgive him. Not right now.

I spent most of the morning doom-scrolling next to the cold cup of coffee I ignored partially because I was distracted, primarily out of spite. I finally got up, made the bed, went outside into the beautiful sunny day, took a few deep breaths, and then went back upstairs to unmake the bed and spend the remainder of the day in it.

He went to work — I assumed energized by Trump’s victory.

The next day, I finally emerged and listened to Kamala’s concession speech. She reminded us, “Only when it’s dark enough can you see the stars.”

I wrote to my artist friends and told them to keep shining their lights. I wrote to my musician son in college and his songwriter girlfriend. I told them to keep creating. I wrote to my young nieces, who were terrified, and told them I was there for them. I wrote to my beautiful gay cousin and said I loved him and was thinking of him and his partner.

I kept writing.

I received a message from a family member who told me her Ukrainian friend was petrified. Another message came in from an actor friend who said she was afraid that the damage that will be done in the next four years could never be undone. One of my sisters wrote and said she had a panic attack and had to leave work. One of my students rescheduled our afternoon appointment saying she just couldn’t function.

Later that night, I briefly glanced at my husband and found myself not wanting to look into the eyes I love. I hated this divide. I wanted to touch his forearms and feel our connection, but I also felt an urge to punish him and deny him my touch.

“I am sorry about the holidays, but I cannot bite my tongue like I did with Hillary,” I told him. “I don’t want to disrespect your parents or your brother and his family in their home, or our home, so it’s best this way. No scenes. You can go see them. Seriously — I will not be in a room of 15 people who voted for Trump.”

He mentioned our son and his girlfriend, who are coming home for Christmas.

“Will they feel bad?” he asked.

Bad? I think they already feel bad. Really bad, I thought. Instead, I said, “We will have our own small holiday, and it will be fine.”

Will it be fine? I have wondered that since 2016, when I saw my husband’s stubbornness. How could a Latino vote for Trump? How can any of his family members vote for him? Haven’t they believed any of Trump’s comments about immigration? Aren’t they worried about the reproductive safety of the young women and girls in our family? Aren’t they worried about all of the other nightmares that could be headed our way?

I was surprised he didn’t argue about the change in holiday plans. Normally, it would be a bone of contention because of how close he is to his family. Somewhere inside, he must understand what this election outcome means to me. I know he has empathy for me, for which I am thankful. I will hold onto this like a life raft as I try to figure out how we move forward with our marriage.................

Well no, it would probably have sparked a civil war, or mutiny with in the US. military. That's my point.

Do you think the man who instigated, influenced and encouraged the "attempted coup" should have been even allowed to run again much less been elected?

I‘m not convinced Trump attempted a “coup”. I do think he encouraged a protest whick later turned into a riot. Thats all thats been proven. I dont know that Trump conspired or planned a coup. He should have conceded when the last state certified. But he is a sore loser and he blamed everyone and couldn‘t fathom that he lost.

Is there evidence to prove illegality? Maybe. But the case sat for years and wasnt pressed until close to the election. So there was no legal reason preventing him from running. Further I think the other litany of cases thrown at him for things not related to Jan 6 only fed the lawfare narative and detrated from the central case of Jan 6.

So now the election is over. Not much anyone can do at this point as this congress isnt going to impeach and even if they did they dont have the votes to convict.

So we either dwell on the past or focus on the future. I’m thinking we should take legal steps via legislation to make sure Jan 6 doesnt happen again. Then I think we look for things both parties can agree upon and try to get some things done. Maybe there is a way to make government work together for a change. It would be a nice change of pace.

What stops it? The Supreme Court?

If Pence goes along with the fake elector scheme, and Trump is certified as the 2020 winner. Who tells him he isn't?

This goes back to my point. That's how close all this got. One guy.
The Supreme Court enforcing the twelfth amendment. The only think the vp and Congress can do is count and watch. Nothing more. The amendment is very clear. Congress may think they have a certification role but they don’t.

"I'm not convinced" because you never bothered to look it up?

This is well documented, and plenty of people went to jail over it.

The plot was simple:

1. You make a fake set of electors(illegal act that sent people to jail)
2. You then bring this "alternate slate" before Pence, and have him certify these fake documents.
3. The election is then certified with Trump as the winner.

I doubt that it would have preceeded that far.

Just my opinion.
What do you think would have happened if Pence had done as Trump pressured him to do? Throw out validly certified election results? The majority of the GOP delegation in the House were on board. It would have certainly been a constitutional crisis like never seen before. They were trying to install Trump as president against the will of the people. It was an insurrection.

The Supreme Court cannot enforce anything. That’s not their role, they have no way to enforce the law. This is completely elementary. Which branch enforces the law - do you know?

Yep. Texas defied the SC's order on the border and nobody did anything.

I doubt those 34 counts will survive the appeal for the same reason. Again. My opinion.
It should survive appeal, because he's guilty of tax fraud to hide his affair, even if the legal maneuver was novel.
