As we head toward the summer and the National Party Conventions, it might be handy to have a thread focused on the upcoming matchup of current President Biden vs Former President Trump.
As of April 28,2024 , CNN's poll shows Trump leading. Yet polls are not always accurate and they are constantly changing.
Feel free to use this thread for all things relating to Biden vs Trump.

If the election was held today, our nation which is experiencing really high gasoline prices right now would probably elect Trump. Today.
I know Biden doesn't have control over the gas prices but we remember the Keystone Pipeline shut down was Biden's fault.....and perception is more important to voters than facts.
Biden is the EV guy and Trump was the drill baby drill guy.

MANY voters are bored by facts. They are more influenced by their peers or the posts on Facebook or Instagram.
    PERCEPTION rules the day.

im sure many are lazy, uninterested folk who dont care enough to be informed by actual source material to arrive at a well thought out conclusion.

its easier to have that info spoon-fed and just regurgitate misinfo/disinfo/lies and stupidity.

i get it-many years ago i too used to be in that lazy/uninterested camp.

Some people make the very common mistake of thinking other people do the same things they do. Keep that in mind when you think about what you think other votes are doing.

No they wouldn't. Right now the biggest issue motivating the majority of voters is the way women are being treated because of anti-abortion laws.

If the election were held today, Trump and a lot of Republicans would lose by historical margins.

Biden is the EV guy and Trump was the drill baby drill guy.
And you've made it very clear that you are very much anti-EV, that's why it's no surprise you yet again make an anti-Biden and pro-Trump post.

Your leanings seem fairly obvious and there's something very much wrong with pro-Trump leanings.

    Are you retired?
Do you spend a lot of time on your own educating yourself on current events?
    Maybe not. Just asking.
Many people are too busy working 5 or 6 days a week and they do not spend much time educating themselves on current events.
    That's not an assumption.

Yes, I reflect back on Trump's presidency prior to Jan 6th and I site things I liked better than some aspects happening during these Biden years. My dislike for Trump as a person and my unwillingness to support Trump now does not prevent me from mentioning misc. stuff that he did that was positive.
Other potential voters do the same ...they reflect back on Trump's pre Jan 6th years with some positive memories....and if he is not in jail, they'll vote for him.
I won't vote for Trump....I won't vote for anyone for President.
I'll just go to my polling place and vote for any Congress related options.

    Okay?

    Are you retired?
It's not relevant, so why ask?

Do you spend a lot of time on your own educating yourself on current events?
Yes, I make the effort. Don't you?

    Maybe not. Just asking.
    Why are you asking?

Many people are too busy working 5 or 6 days a week and they do not spend much time educating themselves on current events.
    Do you have a point?

Other potential voters do the same ...they reflect back on Trump's pre Jan 6th years with some positive memories....and if he is not in jail, they'll vote for him.
That's your assumption and I think it's because you think others think and act like you. It seems very clear that you are prefer Trump win instead of Biden, even though you claim you're not going to vote for Trump.

It seems very clear you want Trump to win instead of Biden.

I won't vote for Trump....I won't vote for anyone for President.
That's your choice and it's a better choice than voting for Trump. However, your repeated portrayal of Biden being a worse choice than Trump only serves to help Trump win, the guy you claim you're not going to vote for.

Since 0000000000000000000000.1% of the citizens of the USA read my posts, I am NOT helping Trump's chances to win.
I asked if you are retired because if "YES" this would likely put you in a weaker position than
I to judge what the everyday working people ARE or ARE NOT thinking or saying.

If you sway one person to vote for Trump who otherwise wouldn't, then yes you are helping to increase Trump's chances of winning. I highly doubt that this is the only place you share your low opinion of Biden and your likening of Trump policies.

I'm confident you tell it to everyone you meet and probably on other places on the internet as well.

Well, since you put it that way, not only am I not retired, it doesn't look like that's ever going to be a financial option for me.

I'm also in the same income bracket as over half the country, so by your standards, I'm in a very strong position to have an understanding of what voters are thinking and saying.

Also, I know a lot of women from a lot of different backgrounds, a lot of different areas of the country, different ages, levels of education, and religions. I listen to those women. They all say they are voting Democrat straight down the ticket, even the ones that used to vote straight Republican.

Women are the majority of registered voters and women are registering at a higher rate than any other single voting group. The Republican party, especially Trump and MAGA, underestimate women, ignore what they say, and take them for granted. I hope they keep doing it all the way to election day.

Your "highly doubt" comment is a wrong assumption.
I do NOT post on X and I am not a participant in Facebook, Instagram, etc.

I am done here for the morning.
My band students were taking the annual state testing, but at 11AM EST they are now done and I have to teach immediately.
    Bye.

What about Truth Social? What about Reddit? What about Threads? What about the dozen or so other sites?

You don't talk to people you encounter offline in your daily life about how you detest Biden and like a lot of things Trump does? You just keep that opinion to yourself?

What do you think about which one of us is in a stronger position to have the better idea of what the majority of voters are thinking now that you know I'm not retired and in the same financial position as around 80% of the population?

You just going to ignore that now that the truth isn't what you assumed it to be?

I'm perplexed as to why you share such specific details of your work and social schedule. It's unusual and strikes me as odd.

My hope is that all Republicans (even the ones that claim they don't support Trump and especially.....strategists) think that gas prices in May will affect the upcoming election more than the Dobbs decision.....please, by all means, keep on keeping on!!!!!!

I have no dog in y'all fight, but I will say there are a lot of voters out there with SteveS view. I'm one of them. I was a registered Republican my whole voting life until this year when I changed to independent. Donald Trump forced my exit. The current state of the Republican Party forced my exit. It's not the draw of the Democratic Party.

If anyone but Donald Trump was the Republican nominee, I think said candidate would beat Joe Biden in November. The current President is not looked at favorably by most Americans right now. It's the only way you can explain this race as a dead heat!!! I'm still in shock/horror that this vile, criminal, moral-less, Peice of work of a human being is getting half of America's support. This whole slice in time will be studied and debated for generations in the future. I consider this an inflection point like no other in this country. God help us all if Donald Trump is re-elected.

I think that is likely true, but Trump is the Republican nominee.

The current President is not looked at favorably by most Americans right now.
It's true that some Americans don't think of Biden favorably. I have issues with Biden, but when the question becomes voting for Biden or Trump, it's Biden without hesitation for me. The past few elections indicate that the majority of voters think that way as well. Trumps candidates do well in the primaries, but lose or just barely win in general elections.

It's the only way you can explain this race as a dead heat!!!
The race is only a dead heat in the polls. The same polls that have consistently overestimated Republican voting and underestimated Democratic voting in the past few election cycles. Republicans have lost several races that polls show they had a comfortable lead. Not so much for Democratic candidates.

My point is that the polls haven't been reliable lately, so we really don't know where things are for this election, except that a majority are angry and highly motivated about Roe vs. Wade being overturned.

I'm still in shock/horror that this vile, criminal, moral-less, Peice of work of a human being is getting half of America's support. This whole slice in time will be studied and debated for generations in the future. I consider this an inflection point like no other in this country. God help us all if Donald Trump is re-elected.
I agree and the primary reason I'm voting for Biden is because Trump is a fundamental threat to our democracy. I did not like a lot of what Reagan and the Bushes did, but I was never concerned they would burn the Constitution and turn us into an authoritarian state.

That's what Trump wants. He'll try to do it if he wins and it's possible he'll be able to pull it off.

    It's my lunchtime.
I know it's hard to believe, but since I prefer to have friends and keep my friends, I do NOT talk about politics anywhere except here and with my wife at home. Listen...Many of my teacher friends are democrats but they are still my friends. We talk about school stuff and our family related stuff. My daughter is getting married Sat. May 18th, etc.
I am NOT discussing POLITICS at school....or in the supermarket....or anywhere.
I have never been on Truth Social or Reddit.
I DO participate in a NON political way on:
1)wdwmagic.com forums that FORBID political posts. They have many moderators who enforce that.
    2)www.tripadvisor.com
3)"The Everything Else" section of the Saints website
and 4) a photography based site called www.cameraderie.org
