Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

• The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
• Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Replying to that with questions about the video is just demonstrating that you either haven't grasped the basic point, or are trying to avoid acknowledging it.

One of the very rare Babylon Bee vids that isn't really funny. You cannot satirize the transgenderization of kids movement, because their actual positions seem like they surely must be satire. But, they are not. Trying to satirize something so creepy just comes out creepy, not funny.



Edit: To be clear, I'm not recommending that you watch it. I probably would have used a screenshot instead of the video link. But I guess someone might want to watch so they can tell me I'm wrong to think this is creepy.

Anyone rationally thinking about a group of people without prejudice would start with the premise that the group, being people, is generally like other people.

Hence, posting a video of someone from that group of people being, let's say, a jerk would at best be so pointless as to be meaningless - given that people in general can be jerks, showing that an individual from a particular group is a jerk carries no significance - or, and this is far more likely given the pointlessness otherwise, it shows that the person posting the video is trying to make the irrational argument that "this individual is not nice, therefore this entire group is generally not nice", which, being an irrational argument, tells us nothing about the group. But it does tell us that the person making the argument is irrational and prejudiced.

Note that it doesn't matter whether the video is accurate or fake; it's irrelevant to the topic regardless. It being fake, or taken out of context, just reflects even more badly on the poster.

This isn't just limited to targeting trans people of course. It's Inciting Fear and Hatred 101. We've seen similar tactics being directed at all sorts of other groups, from misrepresentations of the character of BLM protests, to perpetuating negative stereotypes of any minority you care to name. But it remains irrational and prejudiced whoever it's directed at.

The best thing to do, IMO, is to simply call it out for what it is.

Once that's done, someone trying to post that sort of thing might give that approach up if they have a grain of sense, or if not, they might keep trying to get people to engage with it... but they'll just end up looking ridiculous at that point.
