It’s so repulsive to see people cheering for what is basically 80% the same thing as the Holocaust - different end result but otherwise very similar.

Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

Is it going to actually happen or is this Build The Wall 2.0?

    No hypocrisy.
I would choose to leave a place as described. Doesn't mean I would go anywhere illegally. Or send my kid alone.
So in this hypothetical, you are a Central American father who wants to leave a horribly violent situation. Where exactly would you go? Legally?

You may only have enough money to send 1 person. Would you go yourself and leave your family unprotected or send your child ? And if illegal was your only choice would you still stay considering the fact that it would mean that your family would die ?
Just because someone may be in difficult circumstances isn't a legitimate excuse to break laws or endanger your kids.

There are many countries in Central America. Pick one! Or are you suggesting the entirety of Central America is a hellhole?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_Relating_to_the_Status_of_Refugees :

    The contracting states shall not
    ...
    • impose penalties on refugees who entered illegally in search of asylum if they present themselves without delay (Article 31), which is commonly interpreted to mean that their unlawful entry and presence ought not to be prosecuted at all

It's explicitly recognised internationally that breaking laws, specifically, entering a country illegally, may be necessary and should not be prosecuted. This should be obvious; refugees may be unable to obtain the papers and access the resources necessary to travel legally.

There is also no merit to considering the dangers of travel and the morality of doing so without also considering the dangers of the circumstances being left.

It is also not required that refugees seek refuge in the nearest ostensibly safe country; this should also be obvious, as this would place undue burden on the nearest nations, as well as being inefficient as refugees may have relatives and friends they can call upon to support them and aid integration in more distance nations.

And people who do not know any of these things should probably sit down and do some reading before trying to take part in a debate about the subject.

Not playing victim, just incredulous that you seemed to not get a point that obvious and stated that plainly.

    Saying this:

Doesn’t seem to be cruel to you? Telling parents that they are responsible for their daughter’s rapes?

The one that talks about wife and daughter seems incredibly paternalistic as well.

Let’s say you paid for your daughter to go on a Senior Trip to the Bahamas and she had the misfortune to have been raped there. Would you take kindly to being asked that first question?
Just to state the obvious, turning a child over to a coyote to transport to and across the border is not quite the same as sending them on a senior trip to the Bahamas.

For the record, Texas is attempting to use these advertisements to discourage people from putting their children at risk. Is it a scare tactic. YEP. You bet it is. Is it effective? I have my doubts. Is it cruel? I have my doubts.

Using fear or scare tactics as a means of getting people to do what you want isn’t new. Been happening for years.

This doesn’t make it right or a moral thing to do. Yet you have been defending it for pages and pages. We will all draw conclusions from that. You reap what you sow. 🤷‍♀️

A lot of these women/girls may not even have husbands/fathers. They may have been murdered already. Also, wierd that no thought is even given to young boys.

But we all know that the welfare of these people is of no true concern. The point of these billboards is to feed the need for cruelty by the Republican base. It makes them pump there chest out at how objectionable average people find it.

Imagine living in a place where gangs hold all the power, and your daughter faces constant danger—not only the threat of rape but of being killed. You have one chance to get her to safety, a slim hope that by paying someone, she could escape to a safer place. You know the risks involved, but staying seems far more dangerous than the unknown.

    What would you do?

Desperation often forces people into desperate actions, driven by the instinct to protect those they love.

    Empathy? From MAGA?

    Understanding? From Trumpers?

    Caring? From Far Right GOP?

For people they already consider 'other' and 'lesser than'?

    Good luck with that

What an ignorant comment. The law isn't what we decide it is, it is what passes and is signed into law.

    Stop whining.

Nonsense. If the law sucks, it is our (yours and mine) fault.

If you aren’t ready to accept responsibility for the law then you are in the wrong country.

Which place would that be, that gangs hold all the power in the entire country? How do you envision life in those places?

Say you live in Nicaragua or Venezuela... why not escape to Costa Rica or Panama, places in which you can almost seamlessly blend, and speak the language fluently? Why make the trip through Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico to get to the U.S.?

Now, paying someone... coyotes aren't the Templars escorting you from Europe to the Holy Land. You don't pay someone in Tegucigalpa and are escorted all the way to El Paso. You have to get to the MX-U.S. border to even find coyotes.

You could move to a different State, Costa Rica, Panama, even Mexico, as long as you stay out of the 50 cities and the Yucatan Peninsula.

It's always like this... one side thinks all immigrants are terrorists, the other thinks they all are martyrs/victims.... but there's a whole spectrum of shirt that happens in between those two extremes...

just one aspect of it, unaccompanied kids... sure, some parents send their kids alone with the caravans in the hope they'll get to the U.S. and have a better life, but there too are many that send their kids hoping the reach the U.S. and send them money, or just plain to get rid of them.

A lot of unaccompanied minors are abused, trafficked... some people pick them up and pretend the kids are theirs, thinking a family would have a better change, and once they figure they don't need the kids anymore, they are just abandoned to their fates.

Ultimately, the main driving force is plain ol' poverty, the disparity in the cost of manual labor, and the American Dream BS ideal.

increasing H1Bs is the opposite of what we should be doing.

We need immigrants who feel like they owe the country something, not people who were already well off enough to get a F1 visa, much less an advanced degree.

MAGA is right, why the fork can’t we produce engineers.

Immigration isn’t a crutch for a failed education system.

Let’s take these refugees and turn all of our children into engineers.

I’ve been saying this for over a decade.

What makes you think that people who get F1 visas and/or have advanced degrees in other countries are by default well off?

A bit of an extreme to illustrate the point, but in Cuba, the streets are littered with doctors and lawyers... and they all are poor as hell.

More appropriate, India, where you can get a STEM degree for close to nothing in a public university.

Normally, people who are well off in other countries don't want to go to the U.S. to work the hours and not have vacation. They sure come to visit Disney parks, though.

And the U.S. can produce plenty of engineers... it's just that U.S. corporations choose the cheaper route of hiring either abroad or from abroad.

As for people who feel they owe the U.S.? LOL Good luck with that.

Take her with me when I leave the God-forsaken hellhole I am living in while wondering why I chose to tolerate it for so long.

Are you assuming that those Central American countries don’t also have immigration laws?

Go on - tell us which country you’re going to enter legally and how you intend to comply with that country’s laws. Please reference the particular national and local statutes you will follow to ensure your proper entry.

Be sure to note which countries you will need to pass through on your journey towards your intended destination country, and the particular national and local statutes of those countries you will be in full compliance with as you pass through, as well.
