It’s so repulsive to see people cheering for what is basically 80% the same thing as the Holocaust - different end result but otherwise very similar.

Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

Is it going to actually happen or is this Build The Wall 2.0?

An immigrant in Denmark is a person who was not born here or were born to a non- naturalized immigrants. We don't have birthrigth citizentship.

In order to become a citizent you need to have been in the country for 4 years and have proven that you have learned the language and have passed an exam on how our laws and system works. Not very dissimilar to what is the case in US.

Sweden has often been misrepresented by the US press, particularly by certain right-wing Swedish agitators on social media. Half of my husband’s family is Swedish, and I live just a short 20-minute boat ride from Sweden. I’m therefore quite familiar with the so-called "Swedish situation."

I’ve investigated several of the so-called "Swedish horror stories" circulating on Twitter. In 99% of cases, the stories have been exaggerated, misrepresented, or outright fabricated. When I shared facts and provided links to the actual events behind these claims, many of the influencers spreading this misinformation blocked me. It seems they didn’t appreciate my efforts to challenge their propaganda with truth.

There are significant differences between Swedish and Danish mentalities. Danes tend to be more open and accepting, with a stronger belief in personal freedom. In contrast, Sweden has a more authoritarian approach, often relying on strict legislation for issues like alcohol consumption and marijuana use.

Additionally, Sweden has historically had a higher percentage of ultra-right-wing followers compared to Denmark. This has contributed to the exaggerated and often misleading narrative of the so-called "Swedish problem."

Denmark also gave us Sandi Toksvig, so that's a plus.

Denver’s Democrat mayor, Mike Johnston, has said he will encourage people to protest mass migrant deportations planned by president-elect Donald Trump in Colorado, as civic leaders in “sanctuary cities” begin to plan their response to the threat.

In an interview with Denver’s channel 9, Johnston, 50, said he is willing to go to jail to stop any deportation efforts. Denver’s neighboring city of Aurora has been a focus of the debate over migration after three apartment complexes were allegedly taken over by Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua.

In comments, Aurora city council member Danielle Jurinsky, a Republican, said she had spoken with Trump’s transition team about “Operation Aurora” and warned city leaders that “I hope that we are taking this seriously. This is coming.”

Metropolitan areas, including Denver, New York and Los Angeles, have offered mixed responses to Trump’s promise to deport a vast number of immigrants in the US illegally. “Sanctuary city” laws typically forbid city employees and resources from being involved in federal immigration enforcement.

On Friday, Tom Homan, Trump’s incoming “border czar”, vowed to send “twice as many” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to Los Angeles to enact mass deportations. LA city council members have warned that Los Angeles will not be collaborating.……

I think this is the wrong play. I think protesting inhumane treatment is fine... but if the deportations are humane, but just expensive and stupid... I think you let them go, and point out the damage it causes.

The Democrats should be relentlessly talking about issues that matter to US citizens, and make the Republicans look like they are focused on the wrong stuff. "Look the Republicans spent $100 billion dollars deporting people, and now our groceries have gone up 20%". "Look the Republicans keep talking about people's genitals, while xxx is happening". and so on...

Agreed.

On the protesting, I think you're right. But if they don't want to spend city money and resources on federal immigration priorities, I see no problem with that.

I think you are correct.

That being said, I think that once the orange imbecile is installed the RW agitprop machine will bleat how great the economy is. When food prices and other costs rise there will be a percentage of people that will not care because the immigrants will have been removed and their hatred will have been assuaged.

... and people wonder why Dems lose elections... willing to go to jail... I didn't know who Mike Johnston was, and I have no grasp of his political career, I hope he has this much passion for the legal residents and citizens of Denver. This is the type of headlines that go around the country and push voters to the Republican side.

It’s interesting that some who call themselves Christians oppose sanctuary cities. The term "sanctuary" has Christian origins, meaning "protection from persecution or harm." How can anyone justify showing so little compassion as to advocate for deporting people based on exaggerated stories promoted by far-right sources?

The reality is that crime rates among immigrants, as well as overall crime rates, are not higher now than they were in 2017. Like in any major urban area, there are localized "hot spots" that law enforcement must address, but these exist in virtually every big city across the United States.

Do you not know the history of Christianity? Have you not read the Bible (not just the choice feel-good parts)? I don't know about exaggerated stories promoted by far-right sources, but I don't see anything wrong with deporting someone who's in the country illegally, or not born here who committed crimes. It's very much the same in most countries.

Sounds great, but then from the perspective of many, whatever the crime rate among immigrants is, it is a crime rate that should be 0%, especially when it comes to immigrants who are in the country illegally. And by definition, illegal immigration is crime too (unlawful activity).

And, as I pointed out on my thread, it's not just crime.

*Actually reads the article*

Gosh, yes. So outrageous:

Johnston added that his willingness to go to jail over the issue was real.
“I would if I believed that our residents are having their rights violated,” he said. “I think things are happening that are illegal or immoral or un-American in our city, I would certainly protest it, and I would expect other residents would do the same.”
The mayor also said he would encourage people to protest and that he is not opposed to all deportations – a line that other sanctuary city mayors have also sought to draw – including deportations for violent criminals.
“We think if you are a violent criminal that is committing serious crimes like murder or rape in Denver, you should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and you should be deported,” he said.
