It’s so repulsive to see people cheering for what is basically 80% the same thing as the Holocaust - different end result but otherwise very similar.

Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

Is it going to actually happen or is this Build The Wall 2.0?

Collateral damage. But that's not important to the Nazi ... eh MAGA's.

If there's any cosmic justice, hopefully they will at least be Puerto Ricans that voted for Trump. Just so that I can hear them say, "I voted for Trump, but I didn't think this could happen to me." and get a good laugh from it.

33% of voters in Ocasio-Cortez' district voted for Trump, then down ballot Democrat. So, probably.

Although Puerto Ricans cannot be deported.

Well 2.5 years of training beats 3 months any day. Those 2.5 years includes a lot of law and psychology classes as well as training in how to defuse dangerous situations. Denmark is noted for its minimal police-related killings, averaging less than one per year. And yes we have gangs and Immigrants as well and a population of 6.5 Million.

Cool.
I guarantee you, Denmark does not have the "quality" of gangs that the U.S. has. How many police officers are killed in Denmark every year?

Population of 6.5 million.... the population of the Los Angeles metro area is 13 million.

What's the percentage of ethnic Danish population in Denmark?

You live in a very different world.

Well At the beginning of 2024. Immigrants and their descendants make up about 15.9% of the total population. Among these, around 720,000 are immigrants, and a significant portion originates from non-Western countries. The largest immigrant groups come from Turkey, Poland, Syria, and Romania so no it is not only scandinavians and we do have crime - certainly. But our police force are highly trained in how to defuse and handle situations which makes a big difference. So no I don't live in a different world when it comes to crimes like gangs and immigrants. We also have a very active anti-gang police group which works hard to put those criminals behind bars as quickly as possible.

What I do live in is a world where respect and dignity is important and that everyone who wants to work and succeed are enabled to do so due to our freed educational system and health care. A wprld were immigrants are treated with dignity and offered education and training to become valuable tax paying members of society. Where free language school is offered almost immediately when they arrive and even before possible asylum is granted. And yes - we do get people who don't want to assimilate too and most will end up in jail if they commit crimes others will take low paying jobs by their own choice.

So, what you are saying, Denmark is mostly (even overwhelmingly) white.
And to be clear, before anyone accuses me of being a white supremacist (probably too late) I am not saying that white is better than non-white, just that Denmark is as homogenous a population as you can have, compared to countries in America.

720,000 immigrants.... just the estimated number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. is 11,000,000.

But our police force are highly trained in how to defuse and handle situations which makes a big difference. So no I don't live in a different world when it comes to crimes like gangs and immigrants.
Oh, yes, you do. Very much, you do. Black Cobra will drop to the floor in the fetal position sucking their thumbs if they met MS-13 or the Zetas.

But just wait... you may not get to see it... but things are certainly changing in Scandinavia too.

Although Puerto Ricans cannot be deported.

And if they get caught up and put into the concentration camps while their immigration status gets clarified, I'll laugh at them too for making a stupid decision in voting for Trump.

No mercy at all for a Trump voter is they suffer the consequence of voting for their choice. Everybody warned them.

Cool.

Stupid gun laws brought to us by Republicans get police here in the US killed. As well as everybody else.

You can make the identification of citizens quick and easy.

Just tattoo their proof of citizenship on their right hand or forehead. Problem solved.

They're going to find that those camps that concentrate all of those people into "secure" locations will be prohibitively expensive to maintain. They'll put the healthy ones to work with the promise that hard work will set them free. Those who can't work will be sent away for "medical attention" never to be seen again.
I think we should just tattoo serial numbers on the left forearms. That way if they escape or come back they will be dealt with.

We could make all immigrants sew a yellow "I" on their clothes so law enforcement will know who to ask for their papers.

I cant believe you people have a problem with this.

Yes. a heavy foreign accent or inability to speak English is a reasonable cause to ask for ID.

Strong disagreement. To detain someone - which is what is happening if you stop someone and ask for their ID, you need to have probable cause that a crime is being committed. I struggle to see how having a foreign accent is an indication that someone is a criminal. As I said, there are significantly more legal immigrants here than illegal ones, and that doesn't even count tourists or students.

Why would the entire island of Puerto Rico be forked?

They have "foreign" accents. Hence, if we go with your standards, people from Puerto Rico are likely to be harassed.

Why are people so against producing proper ID? I guess we have a bunch of sovereign citizens on this board.

Not at all -- distrust of the government/centralized power is a deeply engrained American trait... it just manifests itself in different ways depending on a bunch of ideological leanings. Being detained and asked for ID is a hassle and can be demeaning. If it happens really rarely -- ok, annoying but probably livable... if it happens frequently, I'd imagine that being maddening.

This country has a long history of racism -- so there is considerable distrust that any policy where it depends on LEO's ability to make a judgement call would be done in a fair, unbiased manner.

For some of us, what makes America great, is the idea that America is NOT a nation state - but a state explicitly founded on an ideal. We love the idea that your ethnic background or language is not something to be squashed, but celebrated, and integrated into the whole (there is a reasonable discussion to be had about squashing parts of a culture that are incompatible with American values - ie, misogyny, etc). Targeting groups for that difference goes against some of the best parts of America... the idea that anyone can become American based on adherence to that idea and Constitution, and not based on your background.

Yes. a heavy foreign accent or inability to speak English is a reasonable cause to ask for ID.
No, it isn't. Hearing someone speaking with an accent is not probable cause, or even reasonable suspicion, of a crime. A police officer can't ask you for your ID without detaining you, and they can't legally detain you without meeting a level of reasonable suspicion of a crime per the 4th amendment. Having an accent does not meet the standard for reasonable suspicion of a crime (and holy fork, if it did).

Why would the entire island of Puerto Rico be forked?
Because they speak with accents, if they speak English at all.

While I fully support the downfall of America, using accents as the way to detain people might be the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

Los Angeles Unified School District is bi-lingual. That is 650k kids and over half have English as a second language, Their parents were born here mind you. Most parents don't speak English. Many kids don't either. Generations deep of people living in neighborhoods so ethnic that speaking English is considered foreign. All of which are tax paying, god fearing, US citizens.

Oh and my best friend from Purdue was from Krakow, Poland. He has a massive accent. His parents don't speak English. They have been citizens since the late 80's when they defected through the Secret Service because his dad supplied nuclear secrets to the US government back when we had a soul as a nation.

But I guess because he doesn't speak English and Pawel speaks with a heavy accent they should carry papers. Or because they are white, they are fine?

Like I said, stupid.

Well 15% of 334 Million are 50 Million, The total number of immigrants (legal and illegal) in the US according to the census bureau is 46.1 million. So Denmark actually have a higher immigrant % than the US. So again - your assumptions are wrong.

And yes we have very few gun deaths due to our sensible gun laws. Every gun requires a licence which has to be renewed every 2 years. Guns needs to be kept locked up with stock and barrel in separet locked cabinets. And you better not have any kind of criminal record or any history of breaking hunting laws, because then your licence will be cancelled. The same goes for any kind of psycological diagnosis or history of abuse

The cost would be astronomical and it’s already warned it would tank the economy and cause higher grocery prices. It can be argued at this point we need mismanagement pain to correct our leadership problems.

It’s likely there will be a high profile program, but the numbers remain in question. No where close to the desired goal. So can we assume the immigrant Latinos as a group are ok with this? My guess is they're mixed. Yet I wonder as an ethnic group did they realize what danger or hassles they set themselves up for? The important thing is that this “danger” (illegals living in the country) was a tool to persude the dummies we are in some kind of danger and that throwing them out will solve some bull shirt problem of them stealing our ‘good’ jobs.

Two decades ago, I admit I was alarmed in Minnesota seeing immigrants possibly illegal Immigrants working on new housing construction jobs, because these jobs used to be decent paying, the ‘stealing jobs from Americans’ argument that likely at the base level today, no longer pays well enough. I’ve come to realize the reality is most of the immigrant jobs are jobs that Americans won’t do.

I have now seen multiple videos where Trump supporters - including Latinos - have said simply that they don't believe that Trump will deport "the good ones". In other words, those who are working and not committing crimes. Of course, Stephen Miller and Tom Homan have said that simply being illegal renders them a criminal and justifies deportation, end of story.

I think this goes to a very common issue with Trump: his voters see in him who they want to see and they disregard clear evidence about things they don't want to see. The deep Christian voters see a devout follower of God despite this being contrary to every objective fact there is. Business-owners likely to be hurt by Trump's trade proposals see a successful business leader in Trump who must therefore be good at the economy. And communities likely to be harmed by Trump's 'mass deportation' plan simply presume that he's talking about other immigrants.

And I think another element of this (apart from logistics that I don't think people are ready for) is the destabilization of communities that are going to come from this - they just aren't thinking about what any of this actually means. For example, the plan calls for deputizing state and local authorities to be effectively immigration officers. The plan calls for immigration checks at every interface of a community, starting with public school enrollment, library cards, fishing licenses, etc. - being performed by local yokels suddenly enthusiastic to deport those vile illegals. Does anyone really think this is going to go smoothly? That this won't legalize and institutionalize profiling based on little more than skin color or cultural indicators? If they don't, they simply haven't paid attention to literally all of human history.

That's where I find the Latino support for Trump the most curious. MAGA-Mike suddenly now Immigration Deputy Mike is going to be suspicious of every brown person he sees. I just don't get it.

We all know where this is going.

I’ve seen videos of Black MAGAs who thought they were ‘the good ones’ who found out what white MAGAs really thought about them the second the election was called

Comments along the line of ‘thanks for the vote N word’

I was never very good at math, so someone please correct me if I am wrong, but you said the population of Denmark is 6.5 million, and the population of immigrants is 720,000. 720,000/6,500,000 = .1107, or just a tad over 11%, whereas 46.1M/334M=.138, or just about 14%.
Where's the 15% coming from?

Of note, the census estimates the number of illegal immigrants.

BTW, how are you defining immigrant? Not born in the country they reside?

Sounds like the laws in Mexico, and yet....

So, yeah, you live in a different world.

So you want to put them in the Hyatt before shipping them out?

The facilities are already there.
No, not in Hyatts, and I don't want mass detention camps, full stop! That's going to lead to abuses, and when nations don't cooperate to take back masses, they will endure and become very costly. Normal deportation that we have today is adequate, especially if we deter people from coming by changing the asylum laws, and turning people around at the border.

Incidentally, here in the Yucatan peninsula, there have been issues with Canadian and U.S. citizens remaining in Mexico after their visas have expired.. and that's one way the INM pinpoints them, white with accents or no Spanish. Same idea with other Spanish accents like Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, etc...

Many Turks and Syrians are brown, and Romanians are generally darker than Danes too. I bet Danes can pick out the immigrants, so homogeneity is relative.
