It’s so repulsive to see people cheering for what is basically 80% the same thing as the Holocaust - different end result but otherwise very similar.

Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

Is it going to actually happen or is this Build The Wall 2.0?

That’s something that was trying to be remedied by Biden.

And sorry - you can’t talk about this without talking about the incoming admin. You don’t have a problem discussing Biden, so I can discuss what Trump is promising to do. That’s the entire actual topic of this thread.
Just seems many pick and choose to believe Trump whenever it suits their arguments, but then claim all he does is lie.
I don't trust anything coming from his mouth and suggest you don't either. I mean, come on, deporting US citizens? Who is getting fooled by that nonsense?

I think everyone who comes here and stays here should do so legally. If they were brought here as children, give them 3 months to register and then confer citizenship 7 years later. They can stay.
I agree with you on this, mostly. What we disagree on is that I recognize that the way the laws are, and have been for years, has made it almost impossible to follow them. So “should” is doing most of the work in that first sentence.

For example, Elon Musk and his brother were both here illegally at one point. So was Melania Trump. They had money and connections, though, so they were given preferential treatment.

Dreamers are mostly already registered. They will likely be deported by Trump.

What they are going to do is claim that children born to undocumented parents are not truly citizens, even though there isn’t any support for that interpretation in the Constitution.

I figured out early on about Trump. His lies are plentiful and easy to spot. They always tend to be self-promoting in some way. But I’m not naive enough to think he doesn’t also believe some racist things. He wants to deport these people because he sees them as less than, less valuable, less deserving, less human. I also know he’s very lazy and not very intelligent. However, if other people around him want to build camps and get rich from it, he will let them.

We can hope he won’t be able to accomplish anything, but that isn’t wise nor prudent.

And here all along folks have been saying that the asylum seekers have done everything legally, so maybe the law isn;t so hard to follow as imagined.

To the best of my knowledge, a person born in the US is automatically a citizen. Yes, I have heard all the talk about the "under the jurisdiction of" arguments but feel they will fail in court.

so maybe the law isn;t so hard to follow as imagined.
Well, a lot of people refuse to acknowledge that asylum seekers are here legally. TX and FL lied to them and shipped them up north with no warning and no warm clothes and dropped them at night on a street corner at a huge cost to taxpayers and with a contract that benefitted a DeSantis buddy.

So maybe there are problems with the law?

Does that mean that some of the asylum seekers have not done so legally?

Doubtful they will be deported. As far as new dreamers after 2024, I don't think that is necessary. It shouldn't be a never-ending program. Come legally, welcome.

Does that mean that some of the asylum seekers have not done so legally?
Of course. Blanket statements are not a good idea, because there are always exceptions.

You haven’t commented on the Musk brothers nor Melania Trump. Overstaying a student or tourist visa is a major method of illegality for immigration. They all did it, yet were rewarded with citizenship. Why doesn’t that upset you?

Yeah, maybe Texas just got tired of bearing the burden of so many crossing over. Seems like a fraction of the number of immigrants that Texas receives yearly sure thew them sanctuaries for a loop. Decided to share with their northern neighbors. Let's get all of America to share in the joy, eh?

Do you think it is acceptable to take legal asylum seekers, including children, and lie to them in order to transport them across the country and leave them on street corners with no money, no information, no proper clothing, and no local agencies even made aware of their arrival?

You haven’t commented on the Musk brothers nor Melania Trump.
Well, I sure hope my "I want everyone to come and stay here legally" wasn't too confusing.
And if I am not mistaken, both Melania Trump and Musk have been granted US citizenship.
You know, if that matters now or anything.
Just because I don't respond to every single thing written doesn't have any bearing whatsoever on how I feel about it. Don't read too much into it.

No more than I think sanctuaries are good.

But they were here illegally before they were granted citizenship. You claim that matters.

Define what you mean by sanctuaries.
Can we just go with the democratic version from the places that have declared themselves to be "sanctuaries"?
To me, a sanctuary gives shelter to illegal aliens and refuses to cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement.
I consider them to be harboring and in violation of law.

In other words, you have no idea what a sanctuary city is.

I live in one so let me help you out. It's simple really.

All it means is, our police do not ask about immigration status during the reporting of a crime or of any eye witness.

You see, we found that people are much more willing to be a witness or report a crime if they don't think they will get deported for coming forward.

Like I said, simple. So you should get it.

Sorry, that was a yes or no question. I will ask again.

This approach has the benefit of getting people to cooperate when it comes to crimes against people and property, which I think we can all agree are much more devastating than crimes of being undocumented.

    Where do you live?
I would like to look the policy up for myself, as I find it difficult to believe that is the whole policy.
