This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

You realize that the wall didn't actually work and in some places it was counterproductive, right?
Yes, what little wall Trump built sucked. You need not convince me of that. My theory is that Show Biz Trump wanted to save completing the wall until his second term. You know, like "tune in next week" as a way to keep viewers.
I don't know the details of each man's policy enough to know how similar they are. What I do know is that apprehensions and known illegal entries went up after construction began on the fence.
Yes, because there was less border that they could just walk across and the remaining border could be watched so more were apprehended. That's he point of a good barrier. Force the migrants to enter where they can be seen entering. A really well built barrier would force them into legal points of entry only.
Biden has definitely been sending asylum seekers back to Mexico with cooperation from the Mexican government.
Only Mexicans? We're getting migrants from all over. Either way, it's good if he is back to doing that, after ending the agreement that Trump had already made with Mexico to do that.
As an "America First" kind of guy, you're perfectly fine with that, right?
I like your thinking, but no.

Just because I want America to do well, doesn't mean that I want other countries to do badly. America would be safer, have more lucrative trading partners, and would have less migrants straining or own economy if other countries were more successful.

Imagine if Venezuela had a "!Venezuala Primero!" candidate. The French put France first. The Taiwanese put Taiwan first. New Zealand puts New Zealand first. The idea that it is wrong for a president of the U.S. to put American first is really strange to me.

Can they get an abortion if they please?
Have to draw the line somewhere.

Killing babies would definitely be on the other side of that line. Once a baby is killed, he or she never gets to do as they please, ever.

I'll let you have the last word on that topic, so as to avoid a derailment.

Where do you draw the line when it comes to governmental protection? Is there an age where it cuts off?

I'll save you all from reading it and will provide cliff-notes

    - this is exaggerated
    - lacks evidence
    - needs context
    - misleading
    - disputed
    - another exaggeration

Yes, I don’t like the current trend of referring to Nikki Haley by her given first name, rather than her middle name. It’s the same as the people who used to emphasize the HUSSEIN (invariable in all caps). However, I will say this much. The people on the left who are calling Haley Nimrata are not also alleging crazy conspiracy theories (like she’s hiding her religious affiliation or wasn’t born in the US). They’re just making a clumsy political point without manufacturing crazy conspiracy theories.

The fact that addressing people by their proper names is an issue is a non-issue with me. People have been calling politicians names for as long as politics has been around. It's a rough and tumble sport. If you don't have thick skin, you're gonna have a hard time.

Fwiw, I don't call people who I disagree with names, mostly, unless Trump goes off the reservation with one of his incoherent rants.

Can't take the heat? Get out of the kitchen.

They aren’t calling her names, per se, they’re referring to her by her first name, which she doesn’t use. I just think it’s clumsy and not the ”own” they think it is.

What Rs did to Obama is a bit different, IMO, in that they used his middle name to manufacture conspiracy theories - he’s a secret Muslim, he wasn’t born in the US. That kind of fear mongering is bad, and can cause problems when people get stirred up by lies like that.

I agree that politics is rough and tumble and they can’t afford to be thin-skinned. I think what was done to Obama was out of bounds and worse than normal politics.

I don't disagree it's out of bounds, but considering who was doing it, hardly surprising.

Good for you for sticking up for what is decent . Politics is far too nasty.

Lot of folks are guilty of that, including on the PDB. I remember many (maybe even me) calling Bobby Jindal by his given name on the regular.

Has she complained about being called by her first name? Did she change it legally? Just curious.

I know why right wingers did it with Obama, but I've just never felt people should hide from or be ashamed by their name. The only reason that's even an issue is because we have so many prejudiced people in this country. But my preferred reaction is to lean into it when it does happen, just because it make the bigots more obvious when they keep doing it.

With Haley, the people doing it seem to be, as you put it, making the clumsy point that she's hiding from her heritage or origins. Which in itself can be a legitimate political attack/point from certain groups. But pointing out the otherness of her name wouldn't be the way you would do it and I'm guessing that the people doing this aren't the ones who should be making that point.

Minor disclaimer, I haven't actually read anything about this, so I don't know who's doing this or how.

Nikki is actually her middle name, if what I read is true. So it’s a really stupid point.
