This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

To be fair, one of the panelists claimed it was “tongue in cheek”. But after the FBI attack, Jan 6, and starting with Charlottesville, I’m not sure you can get away with a “just kidding”.
Yea, they were trying to be sarcastic, but they just turned out to be accurate.

What this week has resoundingly proved is that the Republican party is still 100% the party of Trump.

Anybody voting for a Republican in November is voting for Trump's party and all of the malfeasance, corruption and conspiracies that come with it. This week should greatly trouble @SteveSBrickNJ and other Republicans who hate Trump and claim to want to move beyond him, but are planning on voting for a Republican anyway. If you vote Republican, you're voting for Trump and his minions.
That is the way it seems now. Things do trouble me. I will not vote for Democrats and I will not vote for minions. Whoa is me! 😥

You could help save democracy by voting for democrats.
Here's the thing, republican voters aren't interested in saving democracy, they have shown us that they prefer authoritarianism by the candidates they support and legislation they aspire to.

They cheer on elected officials that blatantly piss all over the Constitution (DeSantis), seek candidates that support anti-voting measures, and they would accept subversion of election results by their preferred elected officials.

You know brandon has a point. If you want America to remain a republic vote for Democrats no matter what problem you think they may have caused you in the past.
Vote for Democrats because they’ve been right about Trump all along and tried to save us, while Rs have done nothing but ignore and enable his direct threat to this nation. Especially now that it comes out how many classified documents he was stealing all during his Presidency and squirreling them away in the WH residence. And they are still defending him. The Republican Party needs to cease to exist.

    3rd party maybe.
So you’ve definitively closed the door on democrats, but since you’d only vote third party “maybe,” you’ve clearly not definitively closed the door on Republicans.

    Why is that?

What are Democrats doing that is so much worse than Republicans that you’d close the door on them, but not Republicans?

Keeping in mind, of course, that the bar to clear is “undermining democracy on a fundamental level,” with a possible side of “selling US nuclear secrets to foreign adversaries.”

Sorry. I am not voting for Biden...or AOC....or Bernie. Not ...not....not. 3rd party maybe.
I used to think like this, but when the republic is facing an existential threat due to the Republicans' kotowing to a fascist President and dictator wannabe, I think this calls for voting for that who is most likely to be a bulwark against Trumpers and their ilk. 3rd party isn't a legitimate choice right now.
