This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

    Selfish.

What happened to “Ask not what your country can do for you….?”

Voting shouldn’t be exclusively based on self. Rather it should be based on what is best for society. Sometimes those interests run counter to your own. But if the societal gain or risk is large enough, your own interests need to come second.

You guys are way too hard on Steve.
Actually, I think Steve can be convinced, so I’m intentionally trying not to be hard on him.

I do want him to reflect on the consistency of his position, which is why I asked the question.

I said in the past that I want to see DeSantis in 2023 primaries and on the debate stage. I am NOT convinced that he is a Trump minion.....and I don't want to read examples here on this forum. I....want...to...see...for..
    Myself...in 2023

I do not accept that your assessment that Democrats will save America and Republicans will harm America. I will vote how I please and the weight of the nation's fate is NOT on me.

Actually, the fate of our nation IS on us. Each of our votes do count. We need to hold ourselves accountable for the votes and decisions we make.

Being held accountable to me is possibly different than for you. I personally wish to vote as if I had to explain my vote to the Lord. Candidates that are pro life are gonna more likely get my vote....unless that candidate is Trump. He can be pro life all he wants...he will not get my vote.BTW I AM STILL IN NORTHERN IRELAND. You should be impressed I took time out of my holiday in Europe to participate here. I AM a good citizen!😉

Does the Lord not weigh all sin equally?

The FBI raid on Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lagoestate gave the former president a 10-point boost over likely 2024 rival Ron DeSantisamong GOP primary voters, according to a new poll…….

I’m just not swayed too much by polling anymore. For instance was this poll taken after we found out he was stealing top secret documents? Also, GOP primary voters are a shrinking pool of voters, IMO.

Does the Lord not weigh all sin equally?

"All Sin is not the Same"

Current wisdom tells us that all sin is equal in the eyes of God. Yet those of us who hold a Christian Worldview stubbornly turn to the Bible for insight into any topic. We choose to believe the Bible over the truth that our culture maintains. So, what does the Bible say about God’s views on sin? Is there any difference?

    The Penalties for Transgressions

When God gave the Law to Moses there were distinctions made in the penalties for breaking the law.

For several transgressions of the Law the penalty was death. One example is murder: “But if he struck him down with an iron object, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death” (Numbers 35:16 ESV).

With some sin the punishment could vary depending upon the situation: “The judges shall inquire diligently, and if the witness is a false witness and has accused his brother falsely, then you shall do to him as he had meant to do to his brother. So you shall purge the evil from your midst” (Deuteronomy 19:18-19 ESV).

With several other sins the punishment was exile from the community: “But the person who eats of the flesh of the sacrifice of the Lord’s peace offerings while an uncleanness is on him, that person shall be cut off from his people” (Leviticus 7:20 ESV).

Jesus also made it clear that God especially despises the pain caused to children: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18:6 ESV).

All Sin is not the Same

While there are many more examples that could be provided that call for various sacrifices that could range from a grain offering, to a dove, a sheep, goat or bull, the ones already provided should be enough to illustrate that God does not view all sin as the same.

I put this up kind of for fun. I have no dog in this fight (sins are weighed the same by god/sins are weighed differently by god).

I'd ordinarily be more inclined to vote for a candidate who is pro-life. That said, that seems to only a small, even if significant, part of a given candidate's platform. There's obviously a lot of other considerations in voting for a given candidate, but I would argue that not much outweighs Trump and Trumper candidates. I'd argue that voting 3rd party essentially makes it more likely that the Trumper candidate gets elected.

I realize some like you would disagree with that take, but I just can't get comfortable with the idea of throwing away my vote. I'd rather vote against a Trumper than vote for an irrelevant candidate.
