This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

True but he will be in no small part responsible for the transformation of the GOP into a party of lunatics. Maybe he doesn't care as long as he gets his judges but I suspect in the not too distant future we will be getting the judicial equivalents of MTG, Boebert, Walker, etc.
Yep. That's why this whole approach post-1/6 has been terrible across the board for Republicans. They're basically saying they tolerate the politics of the MTGs of the world. The party should get whacked hard for this, but the Democrats can't get out of their own way. And the American people ultimately are the losers in all this.

You’re reading too much into this, it‘s a language thing. Ever since I can remember it has been the “Democratic” Party and the “Republican” Party. Suddenly a few years ago Republicans have insisted on calling it the “Democrat” party. Trump even made a big deal about it as I recall. So then maybe it should be the “Republic” party?
Fwiw, I've never used Democratic Party in my 35 years of following politics. I've never really heard of this until reading it here. I've always spelled it Democrat Party. For as long as i can remember, on election day, the columns were always Democrat/Republican.

    Maybe it's a regional thing?

Also, I looked up the website and it's democrats.org. So...idk.

Well, yes a group of people are democrats. Maybe it is regional, I‘ve never heard “Democrat Party” as a phrase until the last few years. When it really hit my consciousness was when Trump made a big deal of it at one of his stupid rallies. He is from the North so maybe it was new to him, too, and he claimed he uses it because Ds don’t like it. Of course, he made it sound like he coined it, lol. Because of course he would claim credit. 🙄

Democrats don’t like being called “Democrats”, they prefer being called “Democratics”? That’s like on a different thread someone telling me that “Conservative” isn’t a political term just to describe Republicans. I had always thought “Conservative” were synonymous with “Republicans” as “Liberal” was synonymous with “Democrats”.

I learn something new every day.

Not what I said. Please read it again. Democrats don’t like for the party to be referred to as the Democrat Party, according to Trump. I never heard it referred to as this, always as Democratic Party. But a group of people have always been “democrats”.

And long ago there was a range of ideology in the Republican Party, there were moderate and even liberal Republicans. Today’s Trump R party are not conservative. DeSantis isn’t truly conservative, for example. He’s more of a oligarchical authoritarian. See his and his Lt. Gov. statements that people don’t have the right to criticize them.

And the Democratic Party has a range of ideology still, they are not all liberal, there are quite a few moderates.

And just now, I saw this on Twitter. For those who don’t believe the authoritarian label is apt:

I read it, perhaps something was lost in translation. So you don’t care if they are called “Democrats” or “Democratics”, you just feel like Trump thought He was weaponizing the term “Democratic”.

As for the “conservative” “liberal” monikers, I see sub boards on the MAP ribbon titled “Liberal” “moderate”, “conservative” and it gives a pretty clear indication as to what political party each moniker applies to. If a Democrat is conservative, or a Republican is liberal, their party (on this board at least) is aligned with one of those three boards.

I understand the difference (I mostly align with liberal Republicans, and blue dog democrats myself), just if people are getting bucketed into one of the three, their specific group is still tossed into the bigger bucket.

Nothing was lost in translation, MT's point was quite clear. Maybe this will help.

So perhaps it is regional, because growing up in New Orleans I hardly ever heard the party called the Democratic Party. It was always “she/he is running as the Democrats nominee.”

Oh well. Once again, learn something new every day.

Well, it's certainly not new. He was about 30 years late. When I was in school and learned about politics in civics, we compared the Democrats and Republicans ideology and talked about the differences between the parties. We'd have mock elections and you'd have on one side the Democrat candidate and on the other side the Republican one.

That said, if the Democrats want to call their party the Democratic Party, by all means. Doesn't bother me either way. For a lot of years, they (both parties) were all Republicrats to me. :hihi:

I don’t think he was the only one who stood in the way. I wish he would have gone along with it, but if he had I’m not convinced that someone else wouldn’t have taken the bullet.
But none of this changes the fact that Manchin opposed the BBB bill for selfish, corrupt reasons.

Therefore, I don't agree when you say that Manchin is trying to act in the public's interest. He sure isn't trying to lower the electric bills of poor people in W. Virginia while owning a coal company.

They’re doing great - let’s not get in their way. 👍🏻

You just know someone will. Politicians can't help themselves sometimes. :hihi:
Indeed. We are still a long enough way out where anything can happen (as we have seen time and time again, can and will happen).

The true canary in the coal mine will be if the Dems move forward with Student Loan Forgiveness. Joe wasn’t a fan of it a short while ago, and there really wouldn’t be any other reason to push it forward unless it was needed to secure some votes.
