I’m sure much of us are having 2016 flashbacks this morning with a sick feeling to our stomachs..

2 of the last 3 elections Democrats have lost to a far right demagogue

Harris didn’t get close in many states to even Biden’s performance. We could very well lose the Presidency, Senate AND House depending on results the next few days…..

    What went wrong?
    What could’ve been done better?
What can we change in the future to ensure voters are motivated like they were when Obama was elected?

Democrats have no choice but to admit there’s a huge problem with some aspect of their platform— and to do a deep introspection of what’s going wrong..

    Google is your friend :)
I only ask when I can't find anything. I can't find where a woman is getting charged if she gets an abortion in a different state. Can you give me a statute or anything to go on to back up your statement?

from your article. lol. You do understand the difference in civil and criminal?

However, this constitutional workaround has also presented its own challenges. The Oklahoma Supreme Court found its aiding and abetting law unconstitutional. [9] Texas’s statute, which has been challenged in several lawsuits at the state and federal level, remains in effect, though, because courts struggle to hold the enforcement mechanism unconstitutional because it is enforced by private citizens, not the government. [10] Yet, the only suit brought so far under the aiding and abetting provision was dismissed in a Texas district court, due to a lack of sufficient evidence of injury to the plaintiff. [11] The Court found that bringing a civil action under this statute cannot be brought by someone remotely aware that an abortion took place without specific injury to the plaintiff. [12]

And yet the facts are the same - you cant just travel to another state from Texas to get an abortion without facing legal consequences

Simply not true. Please read your own article.

So you finally admit that you want to force your beliefs on others. Got it I do respect that some people won't have an abortion due to THEIR beliefs but why should they decide the fate of others who don't share the same belief ?

Because they think their "religious views" entitle them to do so.....they can't answer the question in a logical fashion because it is based on feelings, emotion and a book full of fairytales that, ironically, doesn't really condemn or say much about abortion.....

Ken Martin, the longtime leader of the state Democratic Party organization in Minnesota, will be the new Democratic National Committee chair after winning Saturday’s election, as his party looks to turn the page and recover from a dismal 2024.

Martin had been the frontrunner from the beginning of the race, leveraging his relationships with the more than 400 voting members of the DNC that he forged over more than a decade of work inside the institutional Democratic Party. And those relationships proved essential, as he clinched a majority of the voting members on the first ballot.

The race hinged more on the candidates’ organizing and fundraising resumes instead of becoming a battle for the ideological soul of the party, as it did in 2017, after President Donald Trump’s previous election win. Martin was the more experienced hand with deep party relationships, Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wikler had been at the center of some of Democrats’ highest-profile races in recent years, and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley had unique electoral and government experience.

Addressing the DNC membership after his victory, Martin called for party unity after a relatively quiet race that got chippy at times, and for the party to focus on opposing President Donald Trump.

"We have one team the Democratic Party, and we have one fight. The fight’s not in here, it’s out there,” he said.

“The fight right now is against Donald Trump and the billionaires who bought this country.”

Now, Martin will be tasked with helping to pull Democrats out of the hole where they ended 2024, a devastating election cycle that left them without any of the levers of power in Washington. But while Martin will help to lead the party forward, Democrats aren’t necessarily looking to him to be the party’s pre-eminent leader.

“We’re a party out of power, so we don’t have a leader. And I think broadly, philosophically, someone could say that this person would be our party leader. That’s not really true,” said Matt Corridoni, a veteran Democratic strategist who has worked for the DNC in the past and also worked on a previous race for DNC chair.

“I don’t know that anyone has ever really looked to the most recent DNC chairs and said, that person was a leader of our party,” Corridoni continued.

That notion is not lost on Martin, who framed the chair role during his campaign as doing the important party-building work that will set the foundation for the party’s candidates to use up and down the ballot.

“We have to tap into the rich, rich, rich diversity of elected officials we have throughout this country who are actually delivering on our party values right now,” Martin said. “The DNC chair is just one spokesperson, but we have so many other spokespeople out there we should be tapping into. Instead of sending celebrities out, we should send workers out to talk to workers, we should send out other folks out to talk who are trusted messengers and validators.”

“My job is to get out there and define the Republicans,” Martin said. “I will take the low road so they can take the high road. I will throw the punches so they don’t have to, and we will go on offense against Donald Trump. That’s the role I will play as spokesperson, and I will also be the organizer-in-chief for our party.”...............

The fight is on multiple fronts including dragging the party into the 21st century.

Saw a video comparing the differences between the two parties

2017 and this year elected Democrats be in Congress, Senate or Governor were all more or less:

“Trump is the duly elected president of the United States we will work with him on behalf of all American citizens”

“Campaign is over is time for governing”

“We need to put aside our differences and partisan fighting and come together for the American people”

After both Obama inaugurations and Biden’s let’s just say the Republican response was not that

Their response was “fork this guy! We are going to c**kblock everything he wants to pass and sabotage everything that does get passed. Our one and only goal is making sure he doesn’t get elected again”

    Definitely a different approach

    ============================
What does the Democratic party believe in?

    It’s difficult to tell.

In 2024, Joe Biden and then Kamala Harris ran a campaign of moderation, reconciliation and emphasis on restoring institutional norms.

This failed to capture much public attention when compared with the Trump campaign’s carnival of grievance. In the months since their defeat, the Democratshave been confused, conflicted and internally contentious over how to best proceed.

The results have been contradictory and ineffectual. The Democrats have alternated between declaring Trump a fascist and a would-be dictator, and congratulating themselves on peacefully handing over the reins of power to him; they have railed against his corruption and his subordination to the unelected South African billionaire Elon Musk, but have also made themselves available to cooperate with Musk’s project to gut the federal bureaucracy and reshape it in his own interests, the initiative that has been moronically termed “Doge”.

They pledge resistance to the Trumpist takeover of the state, and then pledge to work with Trump on what they insist are their shared priorities. “I suspect we can find common ground on some things,” said Gretchen Whitmer, the governor of Michigan, often cited as a future Democratic presidential candidate.

“You have to look at the issues,” said Senator Bernie Sanders, the leftwing standard-bearer from Vermont. “It can’t simply be, ‘Oh, it’s a Trump idea, we oppose it.’”………..

It’s easy to be disgusted with the Democratic party right now. Donald Trump is running roughshod over the rule of law, treating the US constitution like toilet paper.

His trusty pal Elon Musk is the arsonist in chief, burning down worthy democratic institutions and installing his minions in the heart of government where they have gained access to citizens’ private information. Much of what’s happening is illegal and unconstitutional.

And the Democrats, mostly, look less like an opposition party and more like stunned bystanders. As my Guardian colleague Moira Donegan put it, they are “out of touch, opportunistic and cowardly”.

But not all. Some Democrats in a new generation are punching back hard, and in so doing, showing their colleagues how to overcome their reputation for spineless dithering.

Take Jasmine Crockett, for example, a 43-year-old congresswoman from Texas, who is defiantly feisty. You’ll find her everywhere – on social media, on cable TV and leading citizen protests in front of government office buildings.

“We have a thug in charge of the White House,” she thundered in a TV appearance this week. And she didn’t spare her fellow citizens who elected Trump or who stayed home instead of voting in November.

“Americans thought that it was OK to take a full-fledged criminal and make him the president of the United States, and then they want to act aghast when he does criminal things.”

I’ve been talking with Sawyer Hackett, a strategist who worked in the Obama administration, about how Democrats can meet this terrifying moment. He praised Crockett as “an authentic source of righteous indignation when Democrats desperately need it”.

The millions of anti-Trump Americans, he told me, aren’t interested in curated talking points or polished press conferences.

“They want to see us fight and speak clearly about the threats we face,” Hackett said, and she has been delivering. As a Black woman, Crockett is particularly incensed about TrumpWorld’s racist attacks on diversity and has no hesitation in blasting the “mediocre white men” who benefit.

The Connecticut senator Chris Murphy is at least as impressive. He has been relentless in calling out exactly what’s happening and why, especially in the shocking weeks since Trump took office.

“We have days to stop the destruction of our democracy,” Murphy raged at a protest Tuesday in front of the US treasury building in Washington. “It’s the people who rule, not the billionaires. We are taking this country back from Elon Musk.”

Murphy calls what’s happening a constitutional crisis. It is one that the public must play a role in fixing by putting pressure not only on Democrats but on the cowardly Republicans who hold a majority in both houses of Congress. Talk about spineless!

“There’s been no better messenger in the first two weeks of Trump 2.0 than Chris Murphy,” in Hackett’s view. “At a time when too many Democrats are afraid of their shadow, Murphy is showing how to fight back with a compelling populist message that should be a blueprint for the Democrats moving forward.”………

David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland shooting turned gun safety and youth leadership advocate, won his race for one of the Democratic national committee’s vice-chair positions on Saturday, becoming the first member of gen Z to take on a national leadership role within the party.

As he assumes his position, Hogg, 24, has set his sights on crafting a more authentic message to reach the young and working-class voters who supported Donald Trump in November, and he warned that Democrats will remain shut out of power unless they respond to the most pressing priorities of their constituents.

“Part of what I want to do, too, is show young people that the party does care about them, that we are fighting for them, and that things are not just going to be the same after this election,” Hogg told the Guardian.

Democrats’ poor performance in November, when they lost not only the White House but both chambers of Congress, has sparked much introspection among party leaders.

In Hogg’s view, Democrats failed in the presidential election because they lost touch with what voters wanted, ignoring their concerns until it was too late to course-correct.

“Voters were telling us two things in this election. They were telling us that prices were too high and Joe Biden was too old, and effectively with $2bn behind us, we spent that money telling people not to believe their wallets and not to believe their eyes,” Hogg said……

Within the first 10 minutes of this video, video clips are shown from a Kamala Harris rally and the speaker makes statements about Harris and the democratic crowd's reactions to what what Harris had to say. I don't want to give it away here in my intro to the video. It's much more powerful if any willing potential viewer just watches the clips and the commentary that is presented. IF @DaveXA is willing to watch the first 10 or so minutes, I'd be interested to read his feedback. Up to you Dave. Thanks everyone for reading my post.

Bless your heart and may god have mercy on your soul. For the record, I listened for about 12 mins of that garbage and I came away completely disillusioned with the human race.

You are braver than me. I have such a low tolerance for crazy at this point. We are surrounded by it. 9

I figure I'd give him the courtesy of at least listening to what that clown had to say...I regret that decision.

No thanks. He pushes all the bullschlitz buttons. Demonic possession, anti-LGBTQ, Trump as savior.

Harris supporters did not and do not view her as ordained by God as the savior of America.

America is not arbitrarily blessed by anyone. America does not appear in Scripture. The colonization of the so-called New World by Western European powers resulted in extermination of those who were here before. The colonizers carried disease and “deity approved” destruction in the form of religion and racism. If anything those who lived here first could have considered the invaders as from demonic places.

It is past time for this failing country to come to grips with its history whether it offends White people and the religionists or not.

Beyond that? The mixing of religion and politics poisons both. Any politician who boasts of being a person of faith is claiming that makes him/her somehow superior. It does not. It shows how low they are willing to go to attain office and what kind of danger they pose to the country.

I made it 3 minutes and had to shut it off when he unironically compared a potential Harris administration to 1984. We have a major problem in this country right now, and it's not women's healthcare, transgender/LGBTQ rights, or immigration. The problem is a large segment of the voting population doesn't live in reality. GOP voters are following the party's final, most essential command and that is going to destroy this country.

I consider myself to be a center-left moderate. I am registered as a Democrat, but have considered changing that to Independent. I live in a purple state, but work in an industry that is very red. I read this site and listen to those around me. My parents and wife are a bit more liberal than I am. I am not a college graduate, but have a good deal of college under my belt and am probably considered a little above average in the intelligence realm. I have traveled internationally and have friends from other countries who help me with the US vs. the world perspectives.

I say all of this to give perspective to my opinion to follow.

This country is being yanked around by the vocal 10% fringe on each side of the spectrum. For Republicans/MAGA it is Trump and his billionaire cadre and all that comes with it. On the progressive side, there are a bunch of single issue elitist willing to sink the boat if they don't get their way on their one key issue. The nature of the conservative mindset, though, means that their 10% get to pull along another considerable percentage of the electorate with them.

On the MAGA side, the pathological liars in charge lead their masses through use of social media and a reliance on the fact that their followers are intellectually lazy and find comfort in an us vs. them mentality. To use an older, slightly dated turn of phrase, "owning the libs" is a valid reason to make a decision, even if it is detrimental to one's own well being. It is such a strong force for them, that you see evangelicals willing to castigate a Protestant bishop for preaching Jesus' message. You see the party of "law and order" celebrating a felon, adulterer, rapist become president and then pardoning a bunch of people who tried to overthrow the government. And I can relate to this feeling, because as a New Orleans Saints fan, I hate the whole city of Atlanta, not just the Falcons. This group of people used to call liberals sheep and snow-flakes, but much like Trump accusing others of doing something wrong, it's them projecting their self loathing tendencies onto other people.

On the flip side, the progressives really can be an obnoxious group of people. A whole bunch of preachiness and a focus on topics that don't impact the majority of the electorate (other than all humans should treat other humans with respect and find joy in that). It's Utopia or nothing, and Utopia has a thousand different variants. They allow their curiosity and open-mindedness to be used against them. There is no pragmatism. The Arab community in MI is a perfect example of that right now. To quote one of my old bosses, Progressives constantly pick "a bad hill to die on." They need to focus on issues truly meaningful to 65% of the population, not 24%. Besides the issue of post-puberty transition of trans women in sports, I am very in support of the LGBTQ message and their ights. But it doesn't impact a huge percentage of the electorate. I try to love all people. I don't look down on illegal immigrants, because I would like to think that if the roles were reversed, I would be brave enough to try to take my family thousands to miles to find a better life for them. Being a parent changed me in that regard.

But this isn't the message that matters. "It's the economy, stupid." It's not looking for the tiny shred of truth in the MAGA message to build understanding around so you can try to work with them. All that does is validate them. Getting progressives to do something is like herding cats. It's almost hopeless. The Democrats need someone who can whip the free thinkers into shape. Tell the elites and the Utopian-ists they are out of touch and not helping themselves or anyone else. They have to accept that "perfect is the enemy of good" because if they don't, the monolithic block of easily led Republicans will continue to win the day. It's time to be as unreasonable as they are; as petty as they are. And maybe if you win some of those big battles, the other things like respect for others, wealth inequality, racism, reproductive rights, misogyny, etc. will get worked out as part of the process.

P.S. As I thought about what I wrote here, I realized I probably sound a little elitist, from a MAGA perspective. And in a lot of ways, I embrace that I am. I'm not talking to them. They've sold out our country and I wouldn't wipe my butt with them. But for the +65% of reasonable people out there, I do want to engage and find pragmatic, un-perfect solutions to hard problems to make as many people as possible live's better for them and their descendants. I will discuss honestly and make concessions. I will understand my way isn't the only way.
