    A couple weeks out. I fully expect another dominant performance
    =================
    Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, has accelerated his preparations for his Oct. 1 debate with Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), participating in policy sessions and mock debates in his home state and on the road.

    Walz’s team has enlisted Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, in his personal capacity, to play Vance in debate rehearsals, reprising his role from four years ago when he stood in for then-Vice President Mike Pence during Kamala Harris’s practice sessions, according to multiple people familiar with the debate process who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe confidential preparations.

    Fueled by Diet Mountain Dew and dressed in casual wear — cargo pants and a T-shirt — Walz was in a Minneapolis hotel Wednesday, practicing with Buttigieg and taking notes on a yellow legal pad, the people said.

    The two have not yet held a full 90-minute mock debate, although they are expected to do so closer to Oct. 1, when Walz and Vance will meet in New York for the debate hosted by CBS News.

    Strategists for both parties say vice-presidential debates rarely affect the presidential race in a significant way.

    But with Harris and former president Donald Trump having held their one and probably only debate instead of three, and the undercard coming five weeks before Election Day, it may carry higher stakes……….

    I think this is probably true. Trump will think that Vance was too nice, too soft tonight.

    ETA The most important point I wanted to make is about Longwell saying this, "On Earth 2, Vance would be a capable politician." JD Vance is an emotionally disturbed, narcissistic sociopath. Longwell would be okay with that and support Vance if Vance hadn't "sold his to Trump. She doesn't have a problem that Vance sold his soul. She only has a problem that he sold it to Trump.

    This is exactly why the Republican party is where it is today and why Trump is where he is today. For too long the Republicans have encouraged selling one's soul and morals for political victory and political power. This is exactly why Trump is more a symptom of the Republican party than he it's disease. Longwell is behaving just like Trump, Vance and Republicans by blaming everyone else for a problem she helped to create.

    Vance is a big boy that makes his own decisions. Trump didn't make Vance do anything. Vance chose to do everything he does. It's time to stop blaming Trump for the bad behavior of Republicans. Republicans are the only one's to blame for thir bad behavior. Longwell needs to accept that decades of her own choices and actions help caused this problem we are now facing. She's not an innocent bystander. She, like so many former Republicans, need to take personal responsibility for enabling Trump's situation and the current Republican party.

    Longwell, Vance and other former Republicans are not victims of Trump.

    They had Cheato's head on a platter TWICE and were too cowardly to rid themselves of him.

    Every single one deserves the shallow grave they'll receive once Cheato kills all the journalists.

    I know that people wanted Walz to give a short lecture in response to every false and misleading thing Vance said, but there really wasn't enough time for Walz to do that. I think Vance wanted Walz to get bogged down trying to do that. I'm glad Walz didn't. I think Walz pick his spots very well. I think Walz was really fortunate that the most important topics came at the very end. That gave Walz a chance to go long and strong on those topics and Vance didn't have a chance to blabber own about it, because the moderators had to be strict on the time at the end.

    These debates are never about winning or losing. They are about building a foundation to campaign off of. Vance was a smoother talker and got away with saying some bullshirt that went unchecked, but that's just for tonight. Harris-Walz have a much better foundation to campaign off of tonight and know what they need to hit hard and often with campaign ads.

    People spend more cumulative time watching campaign ads than they do the debates. They see and hear ads on the day of the election, some even while heading the the polls to vote. The ads are much more influential on undecided voters than the debates are. I think that Harris-Walz have both the materials and the money to crush Trump-Vance in the ad battle. Harris-Walz also has the campaign personality, personel and funds to crush Trump-Vance in door-to-door campaigning. Same for get out the vote efforts. It's good to know they also have an army of attorneys ready to deal with Trump-Vance's legal shenigans.

    Republicans grade themselves on such a curve. Any time they do "okay", they talk smack like they won their fantasy football league. It sad they try so hard.
    And they always think they did "okay," even if they spent the whole debate literally vomiting on the podium. Look at what they thought of Trump who spent his last debate figuratively vomiting on his podium the whole time.
