I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

The comments were specifically about Republicans in Congress. Everyone in Congress is an adult. Every Republican who remained in Congress has at the very least enabled Trump, even Romney. I'm not going to get into a back and forth over whether or not that is "adult," but is without questioning enabling Trump. How do we look at people who enable and aid criminals and enemy combatants.

I agree with you there. I have no doubt about how I would have voted. But that's part of why I'm sitting here and not in a Congressional seat. There's no room for a pragmatic, left leaning on social issues and conservative leaning on fiscal and foreign policy issues politician. Especially one who owes no allegiance to either party.

Trump got 74+ million votes. Unless you think all of them are radical, conservative fanatics.... Everyone who votes R as a matter of principle, no matter how horrible the candidate is, they all got their due
You're stereotyping and essentializing people based on how they vote. Voting for Trump is a mistake, but people make mistakes for various reasons.

Did 74+ million Americans organize on the internet to storm the capitol? Did 74+ million plus storm the capitol? Are all 74+ million of those voters believers in QAnon and members of Parlor? Do they all spread misinformation? Do they include every conservative in America?

jesus, I don’t even know what to say

I know they are looking at the videos and social media to identify as many as possible and they’ll be many more arrests in the days and weeks to come but it can’t happen fast enough

the highest charges, no plea deals

I saw earlier today that the guy in pelosi’s office could get ten years just for taking the envelope

they should have to build a new prison to hold all these people

Well, Vietnam was 50 years ago. My dad was in the infantry there. He damn near died there. He seldom talks about it. Lost more than a few friends. Not much good came out of the Vietnam War. I haven't studied or learned about any specifically illegal orders taken or given other than what I've seen in a few movies. My dad sneers at most movies about Vietnam though. He's told me his experience was different in a lot of ways, so he's not a big war movie fan. I suspect its more about him not wanting to relive it though. Hard to say.

You description of your dad's experience in Vietnam is to a tee, my father's experience in Vietnam as well. He also served in the infantry (was drafted), lost his best friend at the time and many others, never talks about it and doesn't like war movies, especially about Vietnam. I was reading you post and was like, Holy Crap! All I could think about was my dad.

Why build a new prison? Just release a bunch of people jailed for non-violent drug charges and stick them in there. I'm sure there are plenty in the clink for federal drug charges, especially pot.

Yeah, my dad volunteered. He figured he might as well because he was gonna get drafted anyway. Man, that's crazy how similar their experiences were. Thanks for posting. :9:

I'm sure there's plenty of room at Gitmo. I mean that as dark humor, but the Patriot Act allows for everyone one of them to be snatched and dumped indefinitely at Gitmo without any trial or other legal due process. Their actions make them all enemy combatants and terrorists who pose an imminent threat to national security.

I'm against doing that and very much in favor of repealing the Patriot Act.

pardons always seem to come at the end of a term but is there a reason it has to?

could Biden pardon people in for pot right way (especially those jailed where it’s legal now)

Indeed, I despise the Patriot Act. There's nothing patriotic about it.

He can for those in federal prisons on federal charges. Governors would have to pardon those in for state and local. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's how it works.

And I'd love it if Biden does that.

Zip tie guy #1 turns out to be a guy living in Nashville, used to be a bartender before he moved to Nashville, doesn’t seem to have military or police experience, frequents demonstrations in Tennessee, ardent Trumper, once arrested for beating up someone (not alone, with help, lol).

His name is out there now, so as they say, he’s about to go through some things.

I think a lot of those who stormed the capitol love the Patriot Act and have no clue how it could now be used against them.

The Patriot Act does more to threaten our individual freedom and lives than it does to protect them. That issue alone is why I did not vote for Obama's re-election and why I am neutral about him.
