I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

I think anyone wearing a red hat should get a bullet between the eyes.

You KNOW that’s exactly how the other side would approach it.. and spare me the ‘they go low, we go high’ BS.. yeah that’ll get us really far.
So you hate the red socks, the reds, and dozens of other teams who wear red?

Let's not call for millions of americans to be shot.

Let's not paint with broad brushes.

However, let's get the popcorn out and watch these 'nice folks' get forcibly removed tonight.

    They just did.

Flash Bangs and chemical irritants. They're still being a bit gentle. Looks like people further back in the crowd are the smart ones, as they already started leaving.

Saw that, almost on demand, you're welcome America! But yeah, they're being to damn gentle, I wanna see some cops in riot gear, pounding shields, knocking over old ladies, tear gas, not that mild crap, but that stuff that makes you puke and turns your eyeballs to green snot-balls...stuff that probably causes cancer down the line....as I call it the full BLM treatment.

What does everyone in this thread think he was goin to do, give a full concession to go along with his call to deescalate, and disperse?
I thought he was going to do exactly what he did, inflame the situation by repeating his false claims of the election being stolen, and tag on a "but go home". As far as any angry mob is concerned, that latter bit is just a "he has to say that" wink.

What he should have done is literally just call for no violence and for everyone to go home immediately. Just that. Because an ostensible call for an end to violence which contains fuel for the violence is nothing more than the usual "I'm not racist but <something incredibly racist>" format. You can't praise someone who does that for putting "I'm not racist" in there. For it to not be racist, you have to lose the racism too. Same here. Can't call for an end to violence while simultaneously fueling it.

I have a much lower bar for Trump then most of this board I guess. I'll take the message to disperse over nothing.
Yeah, but the problem is two fold. 1, none of them heard it. 2, he also kept fanning the flames for what they're mad about.

I love you, you're right, it was wrong, but go home.

It's worthless. I get your point. He at least said go home. But as usual, he fumbled it.

I watched fox for a moment.

they were well wishing the terrorist birch that got shot. And praying for her recovery.

    I hope she dies

So we even know who she was yet.

I would tone it down she could have been a federal employee.

I don't wish death on any of them.

I do want all of them in jail a long time and Donald impeached so he can't blanket pardon anyone

Big difference is unlike Trump's photo op, the DC and Capital Police are used to this stuff and handle it nicer. This isn't Chicago, Miami, where you have a lot of pent up frustration and cops just wanting to unload.

Holy crap, they're showing a white guy with a flak jacket sitting with his feet up on someone's office in the capital. Sure hope he gets arrested and roughed up.

Imagine just rolling into the Oval office and acting like that.

The Secretary of Defense has deployed the D.C. National Guard. After conferring with Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell and other Congressional leaders. Trump is already basically a non-entity. He might as well resign and beg Pence for his pardon now.

That might be more logistics.. they're all together.

I wouldn't look at it as the President not acting, but that they clearly need to talk to the Speaker and Senate Leader and VP since they're all presiding over that meeting in the building and they're currently evacuated. Likely all together.

They played it, on repeat, over the loud speakers at The Capitol so they know that he loves and appreciates what they have done for him.

Well, it does look like a lot of people are leaving, so that's a good thing. Perimeter is getting established. Hopefully to the point Congress can finish what they started today.

Yeah, maybe Donald was taking a shower or something and couldn't answer the phone.

I thought it would be obvious that i meant ‘anyone in a red hat WHO’S RIOTING IN DC TODAY’.. but i guess not... So just clarifying.
