I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

If a falcons flag could save my life use it but that would not make me a falcons fan definitely.

They were giving a press conference. Capital police requested help. The mayor wants her chief of police to personally handle it.

edit, sorry, you were talking about the guard. I"m not sure if they're being deployed on the capital, or if they're all just activated and ready to go.

If Capitol Police asked for help securing the perimeter of the Capitol, that's one thing. The DC police chief running point on the Capitol complex is another thing entirely. Capitol Police would literally have to cede control of the grounds to them, which from my knowledge is pretty much unprecedented. That said, I think it's more likely the Capitol Police is asking for assistance but they're the ones still in charge. There are some extensive rules about law enforcement on the Capitol complex, and that would be something DC and the Capitol authorities would need to have ironed out. There are probably provisions for emergency circumstances, but I'm not familiar with those.

I am not hoping every Trump supporter in America be rounded up and out to death. I am simply saying anyone who broke through the barricades and stormed the Capitol should have been taken down as the entered.

I wouldn't look at it as the President not acting, but that they clearly need to talk to the Speaker and Senate Leader and VP since they're all presiding over that meeting in the building and they're currently evacuated. Likely all together.

People wishing for the death of other people is just not acceptable, especially here. Some pretty dark comments in this thread. I totally get the frustration, but let's not let this get the best of us. We should be better than the idiots we're pointing fingers at.
