I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

My father came to this country from Cuba looking for freedom and a better life. He made the sacrifice to leave his family and his homeland and start over here in New Orleans, apparently now it’s on my generations shoulder to keep the lights of freedom and a better life burning because these dip shirts storming DC are trying to put out the light.

White privilege on full display today. Armed men stormed the US Capitol and not one person was shot in the process. An unarmed black man isn't safe in his car, corner store, in his neighborhood, or in his home. But angry white guys who are angry their guy didn't win an election can storm the seat of our national governing body.

    new here? ;)

Its appauling and just so @#$#$#$ true.

They did shoot one lady, but yeah it’s night and say how people are being treated.

I sent a message to Steve Scalise telling whatever staffer screens his e-mails to resign because their boss is a disgrace. I think I'll also make a few calls to him and to John Kennedy's office.

DC mayor adding DC police to Capital police to secure and establish a perimeter around the capital grounds. The DC chief of police is personally going to establish command of the Capital building.

She asked and received state police support from Maryland and Virginia.

DC police chief cannot establish control of the Capitol building unless the Capitol Police cedes that control. They can establish a perimeter, but their authority within that perimeter is subject to the jurisdiction of the Capitol Police.
