I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

The U.S. Capitol Police had specific intelligence that supporters of President Donald Trump planned to mount an armed invasion of the Capitol at least two weeks before the Jan. 6 riot, according to new findings in a bipartisan Senate investigation, but a series of omissions and miscommunications kept that information from reaching front-line officers targeted by the violence.

A joint report, from the Senate Rules and Administration and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committees, outlines the most detailed public timeline to date of the communications and intelligence failures that led the Capitol Police and partner agencies to prepare for the “Stop the Steal” protest as though it were a routine Trump rally, instead of the organized assault that was planned in the open online.

Released Tuesday, the report shows how an intelligence arm of the Capitol Police disseminated security assessments labeling the threat of violence “remote” to “improbable,” even as authorities collected evidence showing that pro-Trump activists intended to bring weapons to the demonstration and “storm the Capitol.”

“There were significant, widespread and unacceptable breakdowns in the intelligence gathering. . . . The failure to adequately assess the threat of violence on that day contributed significantly to the breach of the Capitol,” Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), chairman of the homeland security panel, told reporters. “The attack was, quite frankly, planned in plain sight.”…….

According to the report, Capitol Police intelligence officers knew as early as Dec. 21 that protesters planned to “bring guns” and other weapons to the Jan. 6 demonstration and turn them on any law enforcement officers who blocked their entry into the Capitol.

They knew that would-be rioters were sharing maps of the Capitol campus online and discussing the building’s best entry points — and how to seal them off to trap lawmakers inside. But that information was shared only with command officers.

A separate security assessment dated Dec. 23 made no mention of those findings. Neither did a follow-up Dec. 30.
The only hints about what the Capitol Police’s Intelligence and Interagency Coordination Division knew appeared at the end of a 15-page report released on Jan. 3, which stated that “there is the possibility that the protesters may be inclined to become violent,” and that their desperation “may lead to a significantly dangerous situation for law enforcement and the general public alike.”

But even that warning was fleeting: In the days that followed, in the Capitol Police’s daily intelligence assessments, such notes about violence were nowhere to be found……..

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Senate investigation of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol has uncovered broad government, military and law enforcement missteps surrounding the violent attack, including a breakdown within multiple intelligence agencies and a lack of training and preparation for Capitol Police officers who were quickly overwhelmed by the rioters.

The Senate report released Tuesday is the first — and could be the last — bipartisan review of how hundreds of former President Donald Trump’s supporters were able to violently push past security lines and break into the Capitol that day, interrupting the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory.

It includes new details about the police officers on the front lines who suffered chemical burns, brain injuries and broken bones and who told senators that they were left with no direction when command systems broke down.

It recommends immediate changes to give the Capitol Police chief more authority, to provide better planning and equipment for law enforcement and to streamline intelligence gathering among federal agencies.

As a bipartisan effort, the report does not delve into the root causes of the attack, including Trump’s role as he called for his supporters to “fight like hell” to overturn his election defeat that day. It does not call the attack an insurrection, even though it was.

And it comes two weeks after Republicans blocked a bipartisan, independent commission that would investigate the insurrection more broadly…….

Who has jurisdiction when election officials are threatened ? Is this a local, state or federal crime ?

Could be all of the above, it would really depend on the facts. There are no federal election workers, elections operations are state and local, and these activities take place in a local jurisdiction so you would have general state and local law that just generically applies to threats, intimidation, etc. I think that's where most of it would fall when isolated incidents.

But you might have also have state law or local ordinance that protect election officials (most likely at the state level). And then you also hare federal crimes that relate to elections in the federal criminal code (18 USC Ch. 29) - or potentially, with specific facts that show a racial element, some kind of violation of some of the civil rights (klan) era laws, I'm not sure.

I wonder what it's like being an employee of his watching all this go down

Was he like this before Trump?

MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell claims vote audits will prove former President Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election by 12 million votes.

In reality, Trump lost the national popular vote to President Joe Biden by a little over 7 million votes, approximately 74.2 million to 81.2 million, while losing in the Electoral College by 74 certified votes. Lindell disagrees, telling Rolling Stone during his MAGA Frank Free Speech rally in Wisconsin on Saturday vote audits in all 50 states would prove otherwise and lead to Trump's reinstatement as president.

"Trump won 80 million to 68 million," Lindell said. "Six months from now, Trump will be our real president and our country will be heading toward its greatest rebirth in history."

Lindell told the outlet, incorrectly, that 147 million people were registered to vote nationally in 2020, while official vote counts had Biden winning 80 million votes and Trump 75 million—claiming proof that 8 million more votes had been counted than there were registered voters.

In addition to Lindell's version of the official vote counts being off by around 2 million votes in Trump's favor, Lindell provided a wildly inaccurate number for voter registrations. There were actually over 200 million registered U.S. voters in 2020, according to World Population Review...................

I still don't know why this took so long. Good for them to hold those in power accountable. Especially if it is true this officer has a history of neglect while on duty.

I hope the judge doesn't release it. They'll put that officers life in danger from all of the Trump crazies that will try and kill him to exact some type of revenge. Him and his whole family's lives will be in danger from him doing his duty and protecting the Capitol during an insurrection from a traitor. We all saw the video of what happened, nothing else is really needed here.

Lindell Says: There are only 147 million registered voters, so obviously there were fake votes.

    Lindell Says: Trump won 80 million to 68 million. 80 + 68 = 148 million votes

    Crack is wack.

Where does it say that the officer has a history of neglect? How would anyone know that, given that the name has not been made public?
You can find the name of the officer that is believed to be involved.

The traitor Babbitt’s family should be forced to leave the county in shame.

I hope that officer is awarded the Medal of Freedom.
They shouldn't be told or lectured to do a forking thing by anyone, unless they themselves were there with her in D.C. on Jan. 6 trying to forcefully overturn a democratically elected EEC confirmation hearing. It was their daughter's foolish, stupid traitorous decision, and she should get the blame, not her parents. I suppose John Wilkes Booth parents, brothers and sisters, should've been told by President Andrew Johnson after Pres. Lincoln's assassination to get the fork out of the country, even though they all supported the Union during the Civil War. Ashli Babbitt was a traitor and an insurrectionist, but lets not be prigs and butt crevasses assuming her parents and loved-ones are worthless pieces of shirt, too.
