I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

^ we all know the answer: republicans "it's only okay when we do it"
That double standard, say for example 17+ women accusing Trump of sexual assault and...yeah, no accountability.

    A very good question

Because there are no political consequences for bad behavior on the right. In fact, the worse the better. It’s rewarded.

    This is pretty eye-opening...

Yeah, had a friend who went and he said that he had no idea they were going to march from the Ellipse to the Capitol. He walked to the Capitol, but decided to leave once people started crowding around the Capitol complex. Said he wasn't sure what was going on so he decided to leave early. He didn't find out people had broken into the Capitol until he was on the bus his group was in.

I suspect most weren't aware that the march was going to happen until they got there. I wish I had it but the announcement of the rally made no mention of going to the Capitol, although the "Stop the Steal" slogan was all over it.

Color me (not) shocked. I'm sure they will find more...

Among those who didn't vote were a 65-year-old Georgia man who, according to government documents, was found in his van with a fully-loaded pistol and ammunition, and a Louisiana man who publicly bragged about spending nearly two hours inside the Capitol after attending Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally. Another was a 21-year-old woman from Missouri who prosecutors say shared a video on Snapchat that showed her parading around with a piece of a wooden sign from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office. And a Florida man previously convicted of attempted murder who was accused by the government of refusing to leave the Capitol likely did not have the option to cast a ballot because of his unpaid court fines.

This is the kind of thing that we need to keep being reminded of - what happened on January 6 was extraordinarily forked up.

Right now, the thing that I find hilarious is watching republicans stand there and decry cancel culture because there isn't a reason to get rid of Greene because she believes something different than the rest of us.....while they are also taking actions to expel members of the party who voted in favor of Trump's impeachment.

Ginni Thomas, the prominent far-right conspiracy theorist and wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, apologized to her husband's clerks for her role in supporting the January 6 rally that turned into the deadly riot at the Capitol building.

"I owe you all an apology. I have likely imposed on you my lifetime passions," she said in an email obtained by The Washington Post.

The email was sent to a listserv called Thomas Clerk World, which includes her husband's former court staff from his three decades on the court, according to the Washington Post.

Ginni Thomas - whose full name is Virginia - had posted on Facebook her support for the "Stop the Steal" rally held in Washington, DC, on January 6 that morphed into the insurrection that left five people dead.

"My passions and beliefs are likely shared with the bulk of you, but certainly not all. And sometimes the smallest matters can divide loved ones for too long," Thomas said in the email obtained by The Washington Post. "Let's pledge to not let politics divide THIS family, and learn to speak more gently and knowingly across the divide.".......................

She's not saying she was wrong. She's saying she was wrong to assume that everyone shared her view. If I were one of the recipients, I'd ask her how do you apologize for treason.
