I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Every police department in the country needs to do this - needed to do it years ago

The revelation that the Capitol mob — covered in emblems of extremist groups — included off-duty law enforcement officers possibly assisted by working police is escalating pressure on sheriffs and police chiefs nationwide to root out staff with ties to white supremacist and far-right armed groups.

Law enforcement leaders have faced criticism in the past for failing to police their own officers’ involvement with extremist groups. However, the selfie photos that off-duty officers took inside the Capitol during the violent siege, which left one police officer dead and dozens of others injured, were a wake-up call for many who have long denied the extent of the problem within policing.

National Sheriffs’ Association President David Mahoney said many police leaders have treated officers with extremist beliefs as outliers and have underestimated the damage they can inflict on the profession and the nation.

“We saw the anti-government, anti-equality and racist comments coming out during the Obama administration. Shame on us for representing it as freedom of speech and for not recognizing it was chiseling away at our democracy,” Mahoney said in an interview. “As we move forward, we need to make sure we are teaching our current staff members that they must have the courage to speak out when they know about another deputy’s or officer’s involvement. There should be no reference to the thin blue line.”

The Capitol riot came as law enforcement officials already face a tense national landscape following last year’s protests against policing, calls to cut their funding and a broader reckoning on racial injustice. Then the mob stormed the Capitol, prompting criticism about how police treated the largely White crowd and then anger when allegations emerged that officers were among their ranks..............

Somewhat related, due to the build up and amplification of the lies Trump told...

The board of directors behind Goya, the Latino food company, has voted to censure its CEO, Robert Unanue, due to his public comments backing former President Trump and his election fraud claims, news outlets reported this week.

Goya’s board voted last Friday to censure Unanue, meaning the CEO will not be permitted to speak to media outlets without the board’s approval, sources told CNN and The New York Post.

The decision will operate as a “full stop” on Unanue talking to news outlets, a person familiar with the board’s actions told CNN. The New York Post first reported the censure on Monday.

Unanue’s censuring followed his comments on Fox Business on Inauguration Day that there was a “war coming” and President Biden’s election was “unverified.”

"The company has never been political or politicized," the source told CNN. "He's gone from bad CEO to CEO that has imperiled the future of the company and endangered the lives of some of the shareholders.”

Also somewhat related. Some of these might need their own threads...

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) repeatedly supported disturbing conspiracy theories and liked social media posts that suggested executing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and FBI agents, among others, according to several media reports published Tuesday.

Media Matters for America, a progressive watchdog group, first reported that Greene, a far-right firebrand who was recently elected to Congress, had endorsed fringe conspiracy theories on Facebook in 2018 that suggested former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton murdered a child during a satanic ritual.

CNN’s KFile later found other troubling activity on Greene’s personal Facebook page after reviewing hundreds of her posts and comments. In January 2019, Greene liked a comment that said it would be “quicker” to remove Pelosi from office with a “bullet to the head.” On another post from April 2018, a commenter asked her if “H & O” — referring to former President Barack Obama and Clinton — should be hanged.

“Stage is being set,” Greene replied, according to the archives obtained by CNN. “Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off.”

Her counter argument is that it was from "before she was seeking office". Pretty lame response. She also thinks Parkland was a false flag. I have friends whose kids went there.

    fork her. (sorry, not sorry)

    Kind of interesting.

Not sure I'd call staying at the governors retreat residence as 'couch surfing'. More of an Air BnB thing.
That’s interesting he didn’t have a home residence. Most politicians keep a home address somewhere. What state was he a resident for voting purposes?

She's not a good person, and she was not a good person before she ran for office. And that is why she was elected.

Unlike a lot of politicians Pence isn't wealthy. He has a net worth of around 1 million which, for a man of his age and experience, really isn't a lot. Maintaining a residence he wasn't living in for 8 years was probably not what they wanted to spend money on.

Like Biden, I suspect he will make bank in his post VP life.

Yep that stunt there is what they look for. It is truly sad that the internet trolls win elections pushing one issue.

That high school dropout from Colorado with a record of arrests and her restaurants food poisoned 90 people selling out side the state fair rather than being a licensed vendor. These two are absolutely idiots that push gun issues because they can't do anything else

Pretty sure it was Indiana. Want to say I saw him cast ballot there for the last election.

He did vote in Indiana and used the Governor’s residence as his “home address”. 🤷‍♀️ You wouldn’t think that would be kosher, but apparently it’s okay for him to use an address where he hasn‘t lived for four years and that doesn’t belong to him.

I thought the rule was that you could only wear your varsity football letter jacket 8 yrs after graduating HS if you scored 4 TD's in a game at Polk High?

Agreed. He was from there and had to temporarily move for his job is the best way I can describe it. I am much more concerned with his enabling of Trump for 4 years than not actually having a residence in the state while he worked in D.C.
