I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Sadly, I fear many major newspapers, and some TV outlets, tend to operate from an agenda, with little regard to objective 'truth'. The editors of both the NYT and CNN have been recorded as insisting on an anti-Trump agenda some time ago ? (and where also VERY forgiving of Barak Obama). Sometimes this consists of telling 'the truth' spun in a way that still makes the subject look bad. And sometimes it is 'lying by omission', and refusing to cover certain stories. (such as the normalisation agreements between Bahrain and Israel, or the nominations of Trump for the Nobel prize).

Sadly, I am no longer on the roof, as my original roofgarden was torn down by developers. However, I have a couple of youtube video's of it still exist, if your interested ? Do a Youtube search on "Tales from the Roofgarden", and you should see a couple of them.

Mostly vegetables: Onions, carrots, courgettes, garlic, runner beans and potatoes. But SOME flowers; mostly 'buddy plants' like Marigolds, to help the tomatoes and runner beans ! Also night-scented stock.

I'm about to move into new accommodation, which has a postage-stamp garden. Nevertheless, it has SOME potential. I can still make a runner-bean frame, and grow Welsh Onions :)

Does this forum have a gardening thread ?

Yep figured you had herbs and veggies .

Have in the past grown plenty in the earth but time is hard to come by.

The alternative news push is all a bullshirt by product of removing the fairness doctrine here. The fairness doctrine made it where networks like fox could not exist without some liberal views to give some balance. With the fairness doctrine removed and the social media explosion we now have a huge problems. The other real problem is the opinion shows opposed to news shows all over the place. It confuses the stupid. They should have to put in a banner on the screen that this is opinion when it is not reporting facts.

I don't know what side of Brexit you are on but certainly you can agree plenty of down right false information pushed thru social media made that happen and that is not good.

I'd probably agree, and it it was not just limited to Social Media. Our BBC was VERY anti-Brexit, with over 75% of the pundits they interviewed being anti-Brexit. The tabloid newspapers stirred the brew by publishing all MANNER of scare stories, both pro and con ! People lost faith in the 'established' or 'mainstream' media, pushing them into the arms of Social Media !!

Growing vegetables CAN be time consuming. However, if you limit yourself, and just have a relatively small quantity in pots and troughs, I find it emminently manageable. Hence these days I don't go for Brassicas, just a couple of chilli plants, some onions, tomatoes, and - of course - the runner beans.

Oh.. and a couple of pots of courgettes.

Ummm.. all of which is getting somewhat off-topic :D

Everything depends on sources. You talk about no publicity for Trumps Nobel Prize nomination? Well if it had come from a source which carried some weight it may have gotten more publicity but it did not. It came from at far-right politician from a fringe party in Norwegian politics. The same group which Anders breivik (Yes the mass murderes of young people at the Social Democratic youth camp)

A lot of people can nominate someone for the Nobel Prize. Did you know that even Hitler was nominated in 1939 ?

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-54092960

AFAIK both the media did mention the nomination but did not run it as a top story due to the it carrying absolutely no weight considering who the nominator was - rather the opposite...

And also Magnus Jacobsson, who is a member of the Swedish Christian Democrats - hardly a 'right wing fringe group' ?

And the Prime Minister of Japan, wherever THAT is. :p

    It should.

need more spacing on those onions. Get you some chicken dung next time you harvest and re-plant. work into the top 6 inches of soil. give it 2 weeks. plant and watch what happens. ( if you dont already do )

You all could make a gardening thread (or several) on the Everything Else board. As winter turns to spring I think that would be a great idea. Now that I am semi-retired, I would love to grow some veggies and herbs.

It's a bit off-topic for this thread, so I've replied in the media literacy thread about how the the figure quoted there regarding the BBC is an essentially arbitrary and false figure put out by right-wing campaign groups who are actually extremely biased.

    still not paying their bills
    ===========================

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied a request from Maryland and Virginia to help cover costs associated with the Capitol riot and inauguration, according to the Washington Post.

And this decision has left Virginia Governor Ralph Northam pretty livid.

Northam said that Trump is the one responsible for inciting the "terrorism" on the Capitol on January 6, and now his administration has denied the state's support in efforts to stop it.

In a tweet sent Tuesday, Northam said:

Virginia was there to defend the U.S. Capitol on January 6—and we are committed to ensuring a peaceful transfer of power tomorrow, Now, the same President who incited this terrorism has denied us support in our efforts to stop it. A slap in the face.
Both states plan to appeal the decision, according to WaPo. The denial of funds means the two states would not receive and federal funds for providing support to help restore order after the Capitol riot two weeks ago or for reinforcements sent ahead of Inauguration Day.....................

This is ridiculous. That said, wait a bit and make the request again after the new administration gets up and running. Shouldn't be a problem then.

is that something the Biden administration can even pay for or because the dates are before they took over it’s up the the Trump Administration to either pay it or not

I think there are still unpaid bills from the 2017 inauguration

Not really. Federal dollars are normally budgeted and funded based on the federal fiscal year which begins and ends on October 1 to September 30. Changing administrations won't necessarily change the budgets/funding. That said, I'm not sure exactly how FEMA would pay for security requested from Virginia and Maryland. They may need to request additional emergency funding, which (I think) Congress would have to approve, in order to get the funding needed to reimburse the states.

Federal money doesn't grow on trees, so it's probably gonna take some time to get the states reimbursed.
