I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Partly. I stand by my statements about the gun laws in DC. I don't stand by my statements that few people had guns there because there apparently were more than what I would have guessed at the time. I have to say I was surprised by that.

Not sure I understand how it would not be not only be plausible but very likely that the idiots (the vast majority of them gun nuts) that dared to stormed the capitol would actually be carrying firearms....What am I missing here? Do you actually think they are worried about a DC law regarding firearms? I certainly don't.....

Well, I know a few gun enthusiasts. I've had conversations with them about how to transport guns from state to state legally. They know enough about the DC gun laws to not bring a gun into the city because of the laws there. I don't know if that's typical, but they make it a point to know the law in the states they travel to.

I suppose there were a bunch who went who were complete idiots. Attacking the Capitol illustrates that lack of intelligence.

I mean, if it were me, and I owned a gun, I'd make it my business to know the consequences of bringing it into a city that a) strictly prohibits open carry, and b) doesn't recognize CCW from any other state.

But, I guess ignorant people will do ignorant things.

Actually, I misremembered. She does address the specific claim against her, which had been that she gave a tour the day before, by saying that she "never" gave a tour to any outside group. I suspect if she is lying she will claim that she meant only that day, but it does seem like a lie after all.

Funnier part is that he never said her name. After this twitter spat, he did also post the transcripts of what he said.

Ward, public tours of the Capitol are currently forbidden due to COVID. So she was already in violation of the rules just by giving the tour.

That was my understanding, too, but I was just reading a CNN article, in which it is reported that the exception was members giving private tours. It was also stated that these tours aren’t logged by Capitol Police.

Recent tours raised concern among some members who had requested a temporary ban that reportedly went into effect on the 6th.

After, the Sergeant at Arms banned all tours of the Capitol Grounds at the start of the pandemic, but members of Congress were able to ignore the guidance. Lawmakers or staff led tours have never had to register visitors with Capitol Police, a law enforcement official with direct knowledge of overall protocols told CNN.

Capitol police don't keep security logs either, two current US Capitol Police officers told CNN.

"Rules don't apply to the members. Never have, never will," one officer said.

"(Members) can just waive people through. If they do that, we're advised to notify the Sergeant-at-Arms," another officer said. "We can't stop them."

    WOW. NOT logged? wth??????

Some staffer of hers HAS to have logged it. Right? i mean this is insane.

The point I'm making is simple.

Giving a tour, right or wrong, by its self if not enough to say she helped plan/coordinate/assist an insurrection. I'm not saying anything beyond that.

And if she's telling the truth, it was just her family. So, what other congress folks saw and were alleging is likely accurate, but still a red herring.

You’re still approaching this like those people would have accidentally brought guns to DC in ignorance of DC gun laws.

These people would have brought guns to DC in defiance of the law, not ignorance of it.

Yep, good find. That's pretty much what I was thinking.

While those visits aren't necessarily logged, they still have to pass through security checkpoints to enter the building and each of those checkpoints have security cameras. I've been in the Capitol numerous times and you can't get through any entrance without passing through a security check, sometimes a second layer if you're accessing certain areas of the building.

The staffers are supposed to keep a log of who goes on the private tours, but they're not logged with the Capitol Police. That was pre-Covid. Don't know how they're doing it now though.

I believe I read where somebody on Boebert’s staff resigned suddenly, within the past week. 🤔

I think her statements and actions are enough for me to not give her the benefit of the doubt here. I’m not her jury, so I don’t have to assume innocence on her part here.

Found it: her communications director. From CNN:

“Ben Goldey had drafted his letter of resignation on January 6 due to discomfort with the way Boebert reacted to the insurrection and its aftermath, the source said, but he waited to officially resign until he could have an audience with the freshman congresswoman, which came on Friday. The source said Goldey wanted to fully explain his reasoning and resign in person.”

Thanks, I heard Congressman Sherrill say on TV that public tours were prohibited due to COVID.

    Stupid will always be Stupid.

And they will always play the victim, even though their own actions have caused them trouble.

Oh no doubt she's not getting the benefit of the doubt from me. I was just stating how it is. I've been on WH and Capitol tours before. Both tours had to be requested through my Congresswoman. The WH tour was more involved and you have to register through the WH website with a link that your representative sends you. After submitting the request with a list of who's in the group, there's a waiting period for vetting. Then when you get to the WH visitors' entrance, you go through several checkpoints before you actually enter the building.

The guided tour of the Capitol, you make the appointment with a staffer, then show up shortly before the tour. Once everyone on the tour arrives, the staffer will escort us through the Capitol. I didn't get the full deluxe tour though. I wanted to go up the stairs on the side of the Dome, but you have to specifically request that tour. Not all tours are the same. The private tours are less formal and will take you into some of the restricted areas.

When I used to work for the Architect of the Capitol, my badge allowed me to access almost all of the restricted areas, which was kind of cool.

Collection of all of the videos around DC, around the Capitol and Inside the Capitol.

Amazing how many of these folks just walking around having no clue what to do.

The thing you are missing here is news papers are about exposing the truth.
Sadly, I fear many major newspapers, and some TV outlets, tend to operate from an agenda, with little regard to objective 'truth'. The editors of both the NYT and CNN have been recorded as insisting on an anti-Trump agenda some time ago ? (and where also VERY forgiving of Barak Obama). Sometimes this consists of telling 'the truth' spun in a way that still makes the subject look bad. And sometimes it is 'lying by omission', and refusing to cover certain stories. (such as the normalisation agreements between Bahrain and Israel, or the nominations of Trump for the Nobel prize).

Hey on a side note what do you garden on your roof? Veggies?
Sadly, I am no longer on the roof, as my original roofgarden was torn down by developers. However, I have a couple of youtube video's of it still exist, if your interested ? Do a Youtube search on "Tales from the Roofgarden", and you should see a couple of them.

Mostly vegetables: Onions, carrots, courgettes, garlic, runner beans and potatoes. But SOME flowers; mostly 'buddy plants' like Marigolds, to help the tomatoes and runner beans ! Also night-scented stock.

I'm about to move into new accommodation, which has a postage-stamp garden. Nevertheless, it has SOME potential. I can still make a runner-bean frame, and grow Welsh Onions :)

Does this forum have a gardening thread ?
