Is there a trade deal with China? Is it really a deal or just a pull-back to status quo ante? Is Trump advancing US interests in this well-executed trade battle plan or was this poorly conceived from the start . . . and harmful?

I think the jury's still out, but I haven't seen that the Chinese are offering much in compromise - and it's not even clear if there's going to be an agreement. But it's clear they are working on something and I'm sure Trump will sell it as the greatest trade deal ever. The proof will be in the details.

Joe Biden deported more people than Trump did because they followed a legal process to do so. All of the migrants that were released by the previous administration were vetted. They actually had a legal process to apply for asylum outside of the country that was working to bring more order to the border and slowed illegal migration. All this lying because you won't accept this is the most lawless administration in the history of this country and you're just ambivalent about it all because it's not affecting you (it actually is, you just won't acknowledge that yet).

Spare me your false and untruthful equivalencies.
Yeah. When you open the borders and allow millions in and deport a few here or there, you might can make that claim. The fact remains that his administration allowed 3 to 4 times more undocumented migrants into the country than any of his predecessors. He ignored or circumvented established processes in order to do so. Now you guys are worried about process. Talk about ambivalence.

That said, I repeat, the administration should faithfully follow court rulings. Im just not persuaded by all this whining about lack of process from the folks who exacerbated the problem and ignored process to begin with.

You're too immersed in right wing narratives of conspiracies and falsehoods to hold a rational opinion on this subject. Too many people in this country are, and now look to where it has led. It's why I have such little faith in America.

Explain to me the rationale behind allowing millions of undocumented, unvetted migrants into this country? Explain to me the rationale of opening the borders without a plan and funding in place to deal with the influx. Explain to me the rationale of allowing millions of undocumented unvetted migrants into the country with the full knowledge that it would cost tens of billions of dollars and 4 to 7 years to properly adjudicate these claims of asylum. There is no rationale. He just did it. He didn’t give a crap in your hat for process. I’m guessing you were ambivalent to this lack of and disregard of process. Correct me if I’m wrong.

If you cared what the majority of US voters thought about anything, the time to consider that would have been prior to opening the border to begin with. Just saying. Your party didn’t care what the opposition thought about your policy. You did it anyway. Now the shoe is on the other foot.

So on it will go. The pendulum will swing back the other way and our policy will whipsaw again. Republicans will be whining using the same arguments that Democrats now employ. And the majority will overreach again and the cycle will repeat.

    Lather, rinse, repeat. Sadly.

Biden kept most of Trump's border policy when he started office. The migrants came anyway because it was the end of COVID and they were looking for safety and jobs in the one place that had them (the US). He tried to do things in a legal, rational and humane way, but the floods of migrants coming did overwhelm the border. He recalibrated and put policies in place to make things more orderly and it worked. He even went along with a Republican border plan in Congress, but Trump killed that.

I don't have a problem with people criticizing Biden's border policy, but the hate you have towards the man over this one issue is unfounded. He never opened the border, He initially kept most of Trump's policies. He tried to work with Congress to get something done. He instituted a bunch of EO once that failed that many of the left didn't necessarily agree with. There was never a "plan" to let millions of migrants into the country for "reasons".

I don’t hate anyone. You assume everyone who disagrees with you is a hater? Why is that? Do you “hate” everyone you disagree with? Maybe that is your problem.

I didn’t like his policy. I didn’t and still don’t buy the excuses. I believe he knew and the party knew all along what they were doing and they did it anyway. It was widely discussed and predicted before during and after the election.

Trump bends the knee to the bond market on Powell. So both tariff policy and firing Powell can be changed by foreign countries selling bonds. Trump is proving our creditors own us one dumb statement at a time.
He will say something else on Thursday. This dropped the same time as Tesla ER where it missed on every thing and no forecast. Its stock is up 5% after hour trading.

That's just ridiculous. That's the conspiracy I'm talking about.

The numbers were always going to go up after Covid. And in fact they started to climb at the end of Trump’s presidency inspite of his immigration policy. Trump also changed the definition of an encounter at the border to make it look like less people were coming than actually did. Biden changed it back.

They expected an increased numbers of migrants, but the rush did exceed what they expected and catch them off guard for a minute. Then they reacted and recovered.

Regardless, I would much prefer what we had by the end of Biden'a presidency as opposed to the lawlessness and vindictive evil we have now with Trump.

But you keep on ignoring sending people to concentration camps in foreign countries without due process because you're mad at Biden.

There is absolutely no excuse for the Biden border policy. IMO. None. His numbers were multiples worse than any of his predecessors. And he did little to nothing about it. Said his hands were tied. Except the laws that applied to him also applied to his predecessors and still apply today. So all that is nothing but empty rhetoric. And the notion that they were somehow unaware of the difficulty this kind of influx would put on state and local governments or didn’t know ahead of time what it would take in money and other resources to adjudicate and resolve asylum claims for tens of thousands million people is incredibly naive and ridiculous. They knew and they did it anyway. Mayorkas testified to as much.

But hey. We don’t have to agree on this point.

There are reasons for the increased migrants under Biden. There's absolutely no excuse for Trump’s unlawful border policy.

To add- China, in particular, runs a "long game" - they arent particularly worried about what they can/will accomplish in a relatively short 1-4 year span. Its forward-looking- decades in the future.
People like to claim Trump is playing chess. To use that analogy, when he is facing China, they arent playing/strategizing how THEY will move to checkmate you, THEY make moves to coerce you into moves that will checkmate yourself.
Thats the main difference between our governmental system and theirs- time. They have it as their whole country is aligned with it.

I think you even mentioned previously, they have been around for over 5000 years. They get it.

Meanwhile, quietly and without much press, they continue to make partnerships with others and if we arent careful, will awake one morning in the future to find out that China has now completely realigned the global trade and we are on the outside looking in.

And as you stated, buying those goods for pennies on the dollar, GONE. Thats when you see a revolt. ( although im sure a grand portion of the MAGA base will be spun into believing it was someone elses fault, not their dear leader )
    De-dollariaztion.

Trump’s border policy is fascist. It’s unlawful as well, but we need to speak plainly about it.

Whoever supports Trump in this is supporting fascism.
