The adopted son of former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin claims he was used to boost the Republican’s public perception during his gubernatorial bid and was later abandoned, according to a report.

In 2012, Bevin traveled to Ethiopia and returned with four children — including 5-year-old “Noah,” a pseudonym used to protect the minor, the UK newspaperThe Times first reported. Noah, now 17, claims the Bevins sent him to an abusive troubled teen program in Jamaica.

When the Times asked Noah why he believed he was adopted by the Bevins, he replied: “Public image.”

Bevin served as the state’s governor from 2015 to 2019. After Bevin lost the governorship in 2019, Noah was sent to a facility in Florida and then was later sent to the Atlantis Leadership Academy (ALA) in Jamaica.

ALA bills itself as an “affordable, structured Boarding Academy serving young men who possess strong leadership skills, though they’ve taken some wrong turns in their lives.” However, the Times’ investigation of the facility revealed abusive practices and filthy conditions.

ALA was raided in February and the facility has since shut down. But no one came to pick up Noah, he told the outlet. So, a judge made Noah and two other abandoned boys wards of the Jamaican state.

Bevin’s alleged treatment of his adopted son comes into sharp contrast with his gubernatorial campaign focus: improving adoption and foster care practices in Kentucky.............

A far-right candidate for Missouri’s Secretary of State posted an ad filmed on the iconic Speaker’s balcony in the US House of Representatives, where campaign and political activities are banned.

Valentina Gomez posted the video on Tuesday afternoon, which was filmed on the iconic balcony looking over Washington, DC connected to Speaker Mike Johnson’s office in the US House of Representatives…..

The House Ethics Manual says using House buildings or offices for campaign or political activities is prohibited.

However, there are a few exceptions to this rule. For example, a representative’s scheduler may coordinate with a campaign scheduler. A representative’s press secretary may also “answer occasional questions on political matters.”

The Independent has contacted Johnson for comment.

When reached for comment, Gomez told The Independent she wants critics to “stop the hypocrisy” and re-affirmed her support for Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance.

“For all of those crying about a 15 second video. Be upset about the 20 million illegals the Biden-Harris Administration allowed into the United States that are raping and killing American women, or the billions sent to Ukraine’s useless war where brave men and women in uniform are being killed, or the J6’rs that are being persecuted and prosecuted, or the grandmas jailed for praying outside of an abortion clinic,” Gomez wrote.……..

I’m sorry it wasn’t dead last but I’ll take it

And who were the two she beat?

A Republican candidate for Missouri Secretary of State who used homophobic slurs in her campaign videos lost significantly in her primary race on Tuesday evening, receiving less than 8 percent of the total votes.

Valentina Gomez, a 25-year-old woman who sought the Republican nomination, made headlines this year with her eye-catching campaign videos that included burning LGBT+-friendly books for children and teens, attacking people in the LGBT+ community with vulgar language, promoting AR-15s, abolishing voting machines and more.

Critics of Gomez accused her of spreading “hateful” content because much of her content included vulgar language. She called Vice President Kamala Harris a “hoe” and “little b****”, used the word “f****t” to describe transgender people and described Democrats as “full of gay s***”, among other things.

But it seemed Gomez’s message did not resonate with Missourians.

Unofficial preliminary results released on Tuesday evening indicated Gomez finished sixth out of eight potential candidates with 7.4 percent of the vote.……

Not only that - the gist of the tweet is that a “group of citizens” have declared a state of emergency. So silly, so … weird.

Someone ought to ask Johnson his thoughts.

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX) - A Texas middle school is banning students from wearing all-black clothing because school officials say it’s associated with mental health issues.

Students at Charles Middle School in El Paso, Texas, headed back to school Monday, days after a letter from Principal Nick DeSantis outlined the school’s new dress code policy. The letter says the school is eliminating all-black clothing because it is “associated with depression and mental health issues and/or criminality.”

Norma De La Rosa, the president of El Paso Teachers Association, explained in more detail why the policy is in place and what clothing is allowed. She says teachers see a sudden change in students going from dressing with color to all black when they are depressed or stressed.

“What they are not allowing is for students to wear clothing that is black from top to bottom,” she said. “They can wear black shorts to go to PE. They can wear it on free dress day, but they just cannot wear it from top to bottom.”

Many parents and community members disagree with the policy, commenting online that clothing color doesn’t define a person’s mental state.

“The color of clothing has nothing to do with your ability to do anything or feel any emotion,” Alex Lucero said.

“Making students wear a different color isn’t going to magically make them a completely different person,” Alexis Contreras said.

De La Rosa says parents who are upset need to read the dress code policy “very, very carefully.”

“So, the colors are not so much to prevent or stop mental health issues. You can have the most colorful dress on and still be suffering through depression,” she said............

They do realize the depression comes first, right?

"We don't care if you're depressed and we don't want to know."
