    So you have the doctor give a press conference saying everything is great, and then the Chief of Staff says that isn't true but insists on being an anonymous "senior WH official" so that others can call it Fake News. What a cluster.

    According to this timeline from Derek Thompson at Atlantic, Trump went to the Minnesota rally after he learned of the covid diagnosis. Looking for more verification.

    I don't think you're going to have confirmation quite yet unless it's just breaking now. A source from the White House - last I saw wasn't named - is pushing back on the 72-hour timeline mentioned by the White House doctor and is saying that it's been three days (Wed night) since the diagnosis not actually 72 hours like the White House doctor said.

    So yeah.. forking absolute cluster. It is stunning, and it probably shouldn't be, but it's stunning even for a Trump thing.

    I mean the only further verification we are likely to get will be the Trump administration attempting to “correct” the record in the next few hours to avoid this obvious PR disaster brewing. With the very unlikely off chance we get some inside leak, but I’m not holding my breath given how closely guarded this likely will be.

    But of course the president’s 6 months of ghoulish behavior will ultimately always leave doubt, even if it was an honest misstatement.

    That source is Mark Meadows, obviously, has to be given he was the one asking to talk off the record moments before all this info dump started trickling out. And there is every reason to believe he was attempting immediate damage control because he picked up on the implication.

    But unless there were multiple misstatements from multiple parties things don’t pass the smell test.

    I mean under Meadows reframing the president was diagnosed Thursday and began experimental treatment the same day? Unless his condition was in fact worse than originally claimed, that doesn’t pass the smell test either. And if they are lying about the health of the president than, why can we trust them now? At this point it’s a pick your lie and hypocrisy because every path they have taken they have laced with credibility landmines because they have acted dishonestly and recklessly and wanted to cover it up.
     


    And this is why the credibility gap is and should remain.

    The administration is clearly not being honest and it is only going to foster distrust, conspiracies, and followed by resentments and gaslighting as his supporters absorb the fake timeline and fake news what is looking like the real one. The one of a president far more sick than has been let on officially and continues to waffle on the timeline of infection. Which has its own consequences for spreading the disease further from President Super Spreader here.
