Why are the liberals always held to a higher standard?
I don't feel like NPM was saying that. It seems to me that NPM is insinuating that the Democrats have an opportunity right now due to the fact that they have been the ones more willing to follow the science and take the necessary precautions rather than believe people who have no idea what they are talking about with respect to the virus. I agree, the Democrats should seize on the opportunity that has been presented to them as a result of Trump Republicans reaping the consequences of being Trump Republicans.

One of those in attendance at last Saturday's nomination of Amy Coney Barrett was Fr. John Jenkins, president of the University of Notre Dame, from which Barrett graduated. Fr Jenkins has subsequently tested positive for COVID. Notre Dame requires all faculty, staff and students to wear face masks, and forbids attendance at social gatherings without face masks and social distancing. Hypocritically, a policy from which Fr Jenkins exempted himself while off campus at a political event. What would he say to students of Notre Dame who demonstrated the same lack in judgement and violation of policy?

This is personal for me because my son is currently quarantined to his room at Catholic University in Washington DC. Carter's suite mate, a 20 year-old football player, attended a "gathering" off-campus which resulted in Jesse testing positive for COVID, becoming symptomatic, and being moved to another dorm reserved for COVID-positive students. Carter is pissed at Jesse and rightfully so. Carter and his other suite-mate told Jesse not to go and now both are suffering due to Jesse's poor judgment and breach of policy. Jesse is looking at being sent home.

If it's unacceptable for a 20 year-old student to attend a social gathering with out face masks and social distancing, then how much more unacceptable is it for the "adults" who place these policies in effect across the country to violate protocol? I'm pretty much at the point of saying the "adults" at last Saturday's rally got just what they deserved, and maybe less than what they really deserve.

No, but it has a much clearer picture of which side was on the right side of the argument.

Perhaps healing could occur if conservatives would be the gracious ones, admit they were wrong, and change their behaviors.

Yes, it should be a moment of revelation and that just might, maybe could actually happen. But, getting slapped in the face repeatedly may not help.

Nah. All he’s saying is liberals shouldn’t be taking a victory lap.

I generally agree with that sentiment, but you know what would be happening if the shoe were on the other foot.

It shouldn’t matter what liberals are doing right now. The onus is on conservatives to admit they were wrong and change behavior. It’s not on the liberals to make them feel better because they’ve been spewing lies for over six months.

I’ll repeat: this is not a liberal problem.

The liberals don’t need to change behavior. Conservatives are reaping the results of their months-long actions, against calm and rational recommendations from liberals.

Conservatives need to change their behavior, and that has nothing to do with how liberals are pointing out their failures. Conservatives failed. Full stop.

Sack up, admit you were wrong, and learn from your mistakes. Pull yourselves up by your bootstraps and all that.

Unfortunately, this won't happen. Even in the event that Trump succumbs to his own stupidity, it won't happen.

If there’s anything that could break the spell of Trumpism, it could be Trump’s death at the hand of his own stupidity.

I guess it needs to be repeated again?

This is NOT a liberal problem.

This is a problem of a party that has spent decades fostering a tribal identity that eschews science and reality in favor of fostering out-group hatred and venerating ignorance. It is not my forking responsibility, or my moral failing, because I don’t offer to wash their feet every time their chickens come home to roost. If they want to swing back over to reality and start acting like actual human beings instead of an anti science death cult, I’m all for it, but don’t point your finger at me when I and millions of others have done our part and shown our compassion in the most meaningful way possible, and will continue to do so, by taking the precautions necessary to protect their lives while they turn around and STILL, to this moment, deny the science and attempt to force us by hook or crook to join their death marchs.

My in absolutely no way liberal office re-opened back in the first week of June and everyone has been required to wear masks in all spaces outside of our own offices for four months. For the White House (and most federal GOP lawmakers) to flagrantly ignore the White House's own recommendations for reopening generates no sympathy from me. Watching people packed together at MAGA death cult rallies while I keep my kids away from their grandparents generates no sympathy from me. I've seen enough since March to know that some people are too stubborn or too stupid to help.

So, I’m watching the press conference with Trumps doctors and something shocking has come out nonchalantly.

Trumps doctor said that we are 72 hours into the diagnosis. Another doctor said that he was given antibiotics 48 hours ago.

That means that he was diagnosed as positive on Wednesday.

    Sums it up

The hypocrisy of pro-lifers has never ceased to amaze me. Preserve the unborn at all costs (except of course maternal well-checks while the child is still in utero) but once the child is born? Nada, nil, zilch, zip, zero. No healthcare, well-checks, head start, education, social security, Medicare--nothing at all.

    This is very important.

This would put the timeline potentially after the debate, but seemingly diagnosed before he went to the Bedminster fundraiser and exposed countless people knowing he had been diagnosed with the disease.

Not that I feel much sympathy for anyone donating to his death cult, but that exposes staff and workers as well, and risks the children of those donors or their elder grandparents that may come in contact.
