President Trump and First Lady have tested positive for Virus (Update: Trump to undergo televised ‘medical exam’ Friday night) (2 Viewers)

It is not about the virus size but the respiratory droplets the virus resides. Having varying degree of masks prevents portion of those droplets from projecting. You do realize that virus are so tiny that it takes a electron microscope to view them?

ebola is highly contagious. It’s symptoms however is quicker to evolve and therefore more easily detected. Similarly to sars. That is why transmission was more easily contained.
Actually it's about the partial size and the droplets. The virus can be carried by droplets or by airborne route. The virus is tiny and that's why the surgical masks aren't very effective against Covid.

SARS and MERS: Deadly, but not easily spread

SARS and MERS didn’t cause the same level of devastation that COVID-19 has largely because they aren’t as easily transmitted. Rather than moving by casual, person-to-person transmission, SARS and MERS spread from much closer contact, between family members or health care workers and patients (or, in the case of MERS, from camels to people directly). These viruses also aren’t spread through presymptomatic transmission, meaning infected people don’t spread it before they have symptoms. Once people got sick, they typically stayed home or were hospitalized, making it harder for them to spread the virus around.

“By and large, except for a couple of mass transmission events, almost all of the transmission of SARS was within the health care setting, when you have an aerosol-generating event like intubating someone or dialysis,” said Stephen Morse, an infectious disease epidemiologist at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. “So basically, you could control SARS by improving infection control and prevention in the hospitals.”

Ebola: Very severe, but hard to contract
Ebola first emerged in 1976, and the world has weathered outbreaks at various points since then, including one in West Africa from 2014 to 2016. It’s a severe disease that kills, on average, 50 percent of people who become infected, according to the World Health Organization. Yet just over 11,000 people died during the 2014-2016 outbreak, which was largely isolated to the region where it emerged.

Similar to MERS and SARS, Ebola is not easily transmittable. Infected people don’t spread the virus until they start showing symptoms, and even then the virus is hard to catch because it is spread through direct contact with the bodily fluid of an infected person, like blood, sweat, and urine, rather than through the kind of particles produced when someone sneezes or speaks. Unless you’re nursing patients (either at home or in a hospital setting) or tending to their body after they’ve died, it’s unlikely you’d acquire the infection.

Ebola also tends to cause pretty severe and identifiable symptoms, such as fever and fatigue followed by vomiting and diarrhea. Not only can infected people not spread the virus until they’re sick, but once they become sick, they’ll know it.

“If you want to see illnesses which are controllable, they all have transmission very much tied to symptoms, and this includes SARS and Ebola,” said William Hanage, an epidemiologist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. “If you’re in an Ebola zone, you can be pretty sure whether or not the person you’re talking to is a potentially risky contact.”

This makes it easier to isolate infected individuals and protect health care workers to limit the spread, which is what occurred in the 2014-2016 outbreak. It’s a striking difference from COVID-19, which we know can be spread without any symptoms at all, and even when people get sick, some people might have symptoms so mild that they’re not sure they have COVID-19 in the first place.

In each of these cases, the viral outbreak lacked one of the key components that COVID-19 has that allowed it to tip over into a global pandemic. “SARS-CoV-2 is kind of a perfect storm,” said Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at Columbia University who specializes in infectious diseases.

The forgiveness and compassion is not only for them but for oneself as well. Spending your life full of anger and hatred at a person will not always allow you to think clearly or to be an example of the people around you to forgive. I teach my children as talked about in the bully thread that there is typically something wrong with the person doing the bullying and we should teach our children to forgive them and be the better person. What kind of parent would I be if I didn’t try to live my life the way I teach my kids. Everything we do and say reflects on the people who look up to us. My kids know how I feel about Trump and the way he treats people and the type of man he is, but I also teach them that it doesn’t give us the right to be ugly and mean to them. Sometimes we act like children and don’t look at perspective.
I agree with all of this about bullying, but I thought you were a Trump supporter. I know you’re one of our conservative posters, but maybe you’re one of the never Trump conservatives that is disgusted with Trump.

I think it's noteworthy that he's having symptoms. It seems that some people just don't have much in the way of symptoms at all - but for those who do have symptoms, some of them remain impactful for a while, especially the lethargy. That may also be a function of age.

I’m hoping Trump gets a severe case of the virus and then makes a full recovery, like Borris Johnston. If he doesn’t get severe symptoms, then it’ll make his followers believe that the virus is not serious, which could lead to more cavalier behavior and then many more infections. If he has to be hospitalized, then his people may wake up.

You’re assuming that we the American people would ever get truthful information re the severity of Trump’s symptoms, or lack thereof.. That assumption makes me LOL.

There is a big forking difference between being actively and purposefully abhorrently cruel and imposing pain, suffering, and unnecessary death on innocent or vulnerable people and being someone taking a moment of relief that said person reaped what they sowed to enjoy some gallows humor.

    Don’t give me that shirt.

207,000 people are dead because of this man’s disgusting narcissistic behavior and many more to come, and he may have knowingly become a super spreader by not following the basic science beaten into us for 6 months by his own government.

So take that both sides shirt elsewhere.

first of all I’m not sure where you get both sides from in my post. Secondly in another post you alluded to me as a troll which again is something that you have conjured up. The attitude and condescending tone you give to people on here is tiresome as it was on the other board. You are extremely smart and I typically read what you say to try and understand your side which is the respect you deserve because you have taken the time out to write it. With that said the way you speak to people condescending or completely reject there thought in a negative manner is exactly what Trump does. Your politics may be different but you and he are exactly alike, disgusting, narcissistic behavior. You are just to arrogant to see it. So if you want to have a meaningful conversation maybe you should act like you care what other people think. There are people here that have the same political beliefs as you but are way more compassionate in there conversations. Your type of attitude is why we are the country we are today. Sometimes you can learn a lot more if you try to see another point of view. You don’t have to agree just understand.

I think that's actually why face coverings are effective. The primary vector of Covid transmission is airborne, via respiratory aersolization. The virus particles are very small but they are carried by much larger droplets that are trapped in the face covering. It's far more effective when the infected person has the covering because the viral particles don't get in the general air in meaningful concentrations. That's why mask use is most effective when it is universal.

This has been borne out in demographic study and lab study.

I think Trump is a vial human being and in other posts you can see that I think he destroyed my party. I’m of the opinion him losing the election wilol benefit the future of my party. I am a true conservative, not a trump conservative. I dislike Pelosi to my core but I would never wish ill will on her or her family. It just isn’t in me.

    This is factually incorrect.

I'm not providing support for my statement because I did so on the previous page, as have others, and you continue to ignore it.

Maybe you could see fit to humor me for a minute.. I’m genuinely curious- what is it about Pelosi that makes you, and I’m guessing 100% of other conservative people, hate Pelosi so much? I mean, is it that she spends too much money on haircuts, and the big ice cream scandal last month (look it up, if any of yall dont know what I’m referring to) .. Or that she resides in San Francisco? Or is it somehting as simple as not liking the look on her face, or the tone of her voice?? Please help someone IIke me to understand, and please be specific.

I'm pretty sure Krod said he was putting country above party and voted against Trump in 2016.

I should say career politicians. Doesn’t matter the side I can give you a list and there will be an R or a D in front of their names. To be in office for 10/20/30/40 years and continue to blame problems on each current president is absurd. They tend to believe that they are more than just a civil servant and more like royalty. Term limits should be a must. It reminds me of McCain who I liked and when he died there was a push that his wife should be appointed to take his place. I can go into more when I have time..

mill add to what is said with this, the best way to look at a president is say, is he the kind of man I’d want my son to grow up to be or is he the type of man I’d want my daughter to marry? Trump is the only president in my lifetime that I’d say absolutely not to

Yes, when you have time, please do... Becuase , no offense, but i dont really buy into the ‘any career politician’ thing, when no ‘career politican’ gets even a fraction of the hate and vitriol from the Right as Nancy does, and has for years .. not ‘Cryin’ Chuck, not ‘Pochohantas’, not even Hillary (though she’s close).. so it has to be somehting very specific to her, and I’m not being sarcastic or facetious when i say that i dont know what it is about her, but would like to figure out how she has become such a boogeyman and punching bag for the Right.

We are told that the President gets tested every day. They use the Abbott rapid test though, which is not the most accurate test out there.

And yet they don’t have any other protocols beyond testing. I saw on the saints forum that someone mentioned that the players are tested daily, so masks etc are for pr purposes. There are windows between testing that one can catch and then spread the virus. It’s negligent, and does not surprise me at all about this ill-prepared administration.

And to those that says we cannot predict the lives we can save with better leadership, look at Germany versus Sweden. The per capita deaths is sad to see.

    what chuck said.

and you should read that article again. SARS and Ebola have signs and symptoms that are easily noticeable. And they manifest quicker. A person with sars or Ebola will already develop signs and symptoms before they land on us soil, for example. Ergo why it is Not corvid level. Ebola in the sense that it transmit via direct contact, but has a Very high catagion rate.

I think she's just like the timeless face of liberalism to them.. no matter who filters in or filters out, seems like Nancy is always there.

It's because she has the real power in the Democratic party as Speaker. She has held that power for a long time, so that's why it's so strong with her. It was just as bad for Obama when he was the president.

And to be fair, the hate and vitriol for Nancy on the right equal to the hate and vitriol for McConnel and Trump on the left. I would say the left is more justified in their feeling and has more actual evidence because how they've wielded their power, but I'm sure people on the right would disagree. They're wrong, but .....
