There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

All but 2 can support the coup ring-leader, but, they all cannot accept a sexual abuse enabler or the racist! Hooray! Small victories!
The way I see it - they all can support them, they just cannot figure out which one they all like better, so they are divided between the two.

I also liked Jimmy Kimmel’s line - House GOP had a secret ballot and elected Scalise, but they cannot hold an actual vote on the House floor because they don’t really believe in elections anymore. It’s not their thing.

I made a topic a while back. Of the 10 that voted to impeach trump, 8 either have either retired, did not seek reelection, or got voted out in favor of a trump supporter

    which leaves 2:

If Newhouse or Valadao can get at least 6 Republican votes and all the Democrats, then I suppose they would be good candidates. I haven’t researched the voting patterns nor integrity of these Republicans, but Democrats just need to unify behind the best Republican they can find, because they will not get a Democrat, but if they can agree on a reasonable Republican, we’ll all be better off. Jeffries will not get any Republican votes, so a reasonable Republican is the best practicable option.

    I beg to differ:

Actually, might as well be a 14 year old. The adults in the room turn their phones in. Idiot doesn't know phones actually can be tracked and hijacked, but worse, I don't trust her to not be an idiot and take photos or some sheet while she's in the room. She's a threat to national security because she doesn't follow the same rules as everyone else. Such a narcissist.

The Republican congressman Steve Scalise has said he is ending his bid to become the US House speaker after failing to secure enough votes to win the gavel.

“I just shared with my colleagues that I’m withdrawing my name as a candidate for speaker-designee,” Scalise said as he emerged from the closed-door meeting at the Capitol, where he first informed fellow Republican colleagues of his decision.

Scalise, a hardline conservative representing Louisiana, said the Republican majority “still has to come together and is not there”.

“There are still some people that have their own agendas,” Scalise said. “And I was very clear, we have to have everybody put their agendas on the side and focus on what this country needs.”

Next steps are uncertain as the House is now essentially closed, while the Republican majority tries to elect a speaker after a small number of them voted alongside Democrats to oustKevin McCarthy from the job.……
