There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

I can't believe we don't have a speaker of the house at this point with everything that is going on. it was irresponsible for them to remove McCarthy without a plan, but the fact that we don't have a speaker at the end of this week is inexcusable.

I also can't believe that we are close to having Jim Jordan being 2 people away from the presidency.

I saw where there are about 55 R reps who will never vote for Jordan. I don’t think he will be Speaker.

Yeah, I'll say it again because it bears repeating. At all costs, we cannot have Jordan as Speaker. He's a literal danger to the Republic. We're better off with no Speaker than with him in there.

I’m a bit worried because they have adjourned until Monday. All weekend for the MAGA idiots to pressure the 55 or so who stand in the way of Jordan. Mike Pence and Kevin McCarthy have endorsed him. I don’t trust that the sane Rs will have the backbone to stand up to this. I felt better about it a few hours ago. Now not so much.

It's maybe time for the Democrats to talk with moderates about an alternative. The only problem is idk how a moderate would get the caucus votes.

Pence's behavior is beyond the pale....it's like he is in denial that anything actually happened on Jan 6th....forget party over country, his mantra is party over family......

It’s not about bailing out Republicans. I think Democrats have an opportunity to not only get some concessions, but also get a much more palatable speaker. They can keep insisting on Jeffries, but that won’t happen. On the other hand, they probably can get behind a centrist Republican and get some concessions as well. If they sit, they will end up with a much less desirable speaker.

They can keep insisting on Jeffries, but that won’t happen. On the other hand, they probably can get behind a centrist Republican and get some concessions as well. They have said they are open to making a deal, but you cannot make a deal with only one side willing to do so.
