There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

They have said they are open to making a deal, but you cannot make a deal with only one side willing to do so.

Here’s a list of Jeffries’ press releases. He’s been offering to work with Rs since the vote to vacate.

Yes, but every time that a Democrat is asked whether they would support a Republican, they say Republicans should support Jeffries.

    He deserves this:

Yeah, until they actually say they'll support a moderate Republican, it's all noise.
They won’t ever vote for a R, any more than any Rs will vote for Jeffries. We shouldn’t expect them to. All they have to do is vote present, once a moderate R is actually nominated. This is what I mean when I say Ds are continually held to a higher standard than Rs.

Dems say they are ready to cooperate every day. It’s not Dems who are causing this issue.

No one is saying the Dems are causing the issues outside the usual suspects. I'm just not buying that Jeffries is serious about a coalition until the rubber meets the road. It's gotta start with the Republicans though.

Any talk of Republicans working with Democrats is pure fantasy. Gym Jordan will be the speaker.

welp, they must think they can elect someone. 🤷‍♀️

I don’t know what else you expect him to do….

Imo, keep his mouth shut until the Republicans decide what they're going to do. Pretending to talk power sharing is just going to invite more nonsense.

What he should be doing is talking with moderate Republicans and try to broker a deal without showing his cards. His approach is just going to make those negotiations more difficult.

Negotiating through through media rarely, if ever, works.

Regardless, I don't find the sort of comments he's making believable. No R is gonna admit they're talking to him, and there's nothing to gain by saying what he said.

Okay, I see what you are saying. However, you don’t know that he isn’t privately reaching out, or if he has and nobody on the R side will talk to him. When Rs and the media are publicly blaming Dems for not working with Rs - he has to make these statements, IMO.

First of all this Benny Johnson is a RWNJ, but i do wonder if it’s true that one R rep has announced he will work with the Dems. I’m not getting my hopes up, because he’s a liar, but this is also an illustration of what would happen to any R who works with the Dems.

He doesn't have to say anything really. He can simply say publicly that he's open to a deal, and that this process is in the R's hands and leave it at that.

But talking about anything more than that doesn't help anything. Just negotiate behind closed doors until they come up with an agreement.

And I'm not saying he isn't doing that, but until a deal is agreed to, I'm not buying anything he or anyone else says. Talk is cheap.
