There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

More stupidity from Mace. Language from Riggleman…

Yeah, but how bad is it that neither of them could even admit in a private meeting that Trump lost? Neither one should ever be close to the Speaker’s gavel. Neither one should even be in Congress, to be honest.
You obviously don't know much about Scalise's district. :biglol:

Saw on twitter that it is Scalise.

I guess he was the sanest outcome we could have hoped for.

I haven't done the homework yet, but where does Scalise stand regarding Ukraine?

I think he has voted in favor of Ukraine funding - and supported the separate measure they passed when they stripped it from the CR.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that he will support Ukraine as Speaker or not make concessions to the right-wingers that want to limit it.

Yeah, if he only had half the caucus supporting him, don't see him getting to 217 quickly. If I'm the Democrats, I'm looking at using the leverage they have to pull a few across the aisle to vote in a moderate Republican. Idk if that would work, but might be worth considering.
It would be worth it but it's up to the R's to put forth such a candidate and IDK if one exists in their current leadership. If the R's do send Scalise to the floor for a vote and if that vote fails in round 1, I think the D's should just hold their nose and vote unanimously for him because the the Government shuts down in a month. This clown show needs an intermission!

I keep seeing that suggestion but never any names as to who that moderate republican would/should be
