The middle makes the difference once again. Why?

McAuliffe made an error with the school issue to appease the CRT crowd. A costly strategic error.

On another note CNN described Michelle Wu a moderate as the first woman of color to be mayor. The media recruiting minorities.

OMG, another tribe member. Guys, give it up. Trump is gone! Most people on the Dems and Reps are close to the center.

Trump is gone? Really? What if he runs in 2024 and wins? I mean I hope he dies of a heart attack or something before then but he seems to be intent on running if he is able....

To dismiss Trump as gone (and not to mention the millions that voted for him in the last election) seems like a very foolish position if you are really a moderate....(which you aren't...at all)....

    Guys, stop the tribal behavior.

    Yes.
I think everyone will be better off if they just simply bow and worship at the alter of Trump. It is the human condition. Embrace the wisdom that God put on the earth as his shepherd. All hail Trump!

Yes. This will be a good start. I would also like to see statues of Trump erected in every town square, maybe outside the Trump shrine but just to the right of the Trump museum and library. Also, in the library there will only be the bible. No science hearsay or any of that new age bull skirt. Just several thousand bibles for the masses, and all the Harry Potter books, because we Trumpians love the literature.

    Oh-kay?

Pretty much this, on the stupidity of Virginia voters and the great rallying cry of Republicans:

But beyond that, on what is supposedly now their most important “issue,” the GOP has a campaign agenda — some slogans meant to capitalize on people’s anger and fear — but almost no governing agenda.

In this way, Youngkin is the prototypical Republican: A private equity CEO whose true passion lies in tax cuts, he discovered that schools were a good vehicle to exploit the anger of the Republican base, made a ludicrously empty promise the centerpiece of his campaign (“On day one, I’m going to ban” critical race theory!), and once he takes office he’ll promptly forget about it, since he has virtually nothing resembling a substantive agenda on education anyway.

If you asked the average Virginia voter what Youngkin wants to actually do with the state’s schools, they couldn’t tell you a thing beyond some vague catchphrases about “letting parents have a say.”

If you go to Youngkin’s website, you’ll search in vain for anything beyond a few bromides on any issue. The education section comes in at a grand total of 85 words: He promises “Keeping Schools Open Safely Five Days a Week,” “Restoring High Expectations & Getting Every Student College or Career Ready,” and of course, “Ridding Political Agendas from the Classroom by Banning Critical Race Theory.” There are no details on any of it.
His opponent Terry McAuliffe, in contrast, had a six-page education plan with some genuine proposals. But like any good Republican, Youngkin didn’t bother. He and his voters made a bargain: This is something you’re riled up about, so I’ll tell you that you’re right to be angry, you’ll vote for me, and then we’ll all declare victory over the dastardly liberals and forget about it until the next election.

    YAWN

This election means nothing to the DNC, this was all about the State of Virginia, the SWING state that has always SWUNG!!! The D's flipped the state on both Reagan and Bush's 1st term and once again on Trump's only term. The R's did the same thing to Clinton and Obama, so...meh!

The real problem for the D's is that they need to find a way to maintain voter turnout during off year elections. Turnout for the Presidential Election in VA was 76% and while this Gubernatorial election ticked up from their last election, it looks as though voter turnout is going to be within the 50% range.
I totally agree with you on the national importance of this election, i.e. not much.

Here is what I find interesting, though. It may be possible that the reason for the increased turnout (for an off year) is that the state of VA enacted a lot of election reform during the past 4 years. They made it a lot easier to register and vote. And the R still won, which may prove that all the voting restrictions being put in place in R states have absolutely nothing to do with election integrity or the idea that if more people vote Rs will never win.

Rs think they can’t win if more people vote, we even heard an election official in GA say so out loud. And they don’t mind taking the franchise away from people to try to cheat the system. But VA proves that they don’t need to do that, which just makes it all the more craven and dishonest to me.

ON a theoretical basis the libertarian wing of the Republican party wants a governor that will do nothing.

What's the point of having a governor if that's what you want. Go live in an anarchy.

I have some sympathy for libertarians. I like the "live and let live" philosophy and the non-judgmental attitude. I admire the independence and relying on themselves. They want a minimalist government and hence a governor that does very little is welcomed.
