I figured we needed a thread specifically about the media.

There was a very big correction recently by the Washington Post.

That story was supposedly "independently confirmed" by CNN, NBC News, USA Today, ABC News, & PBS News Hour. How could they all have gotten the quote wrong if they actually independently confirmed the story?

Why do all the errors always go in one political direction and not closer to 50/50?

Why are people who supposedly love the free market so uptight when a private business bans someone for not following their rules?

The constitution doesn’t apply on private property. You have no right to assembly, speech, firearms or anything else on private property.

If you want the government to do something about it you are for big government. If you are only for their interference when it is issues you agree with you are authoritarian. Period. Can’t have it both ways.

Somewhere it was recently asserted that all of the MSM is left-biased and so the public is being overrun with liberal news sources.

I felt this was incorrect so I did a little digging: About half of all Americans get their news from social media “often” or “sometimes”. Facebook has the largest share of people who are getting their news on social media.

Pick any random day and look up the FB sites with the highest traffic:

Today:

Yesterday:

So, MSM isn’t as influential as one would think anymore. Not to mention there are MSM that are definitely conservative and not Fox: WSJ, The Hill, the Federalist, the Washington Times just to name a few.

Lastly: here is Ron Johnson peddling the lie that social media sites are censoring conservatives unfairly, and getting schooled by the witness so hard that he gets up and leaves the hearing 😁:

The Federalist, who you constantly say isn't credible, is considered part of the mainstream media? Yeah okay. That's pretty funny.

The mainstream media sets the agenda for the news that dominates the stories being talked about which filters down to local news as well. When's the last time you saw something on the local news from any of the conservative media outlets? I can't remember seeing anything on the national or local news from the Facebook top performing pages.

The mainstream/corporate media along with Facebook, Twitter, and former intelligence officials worked together to censor the Hunter Biden story before the election to help Joe Biden. Thats never been done before and it turned out the story was true. Russian disinformation my a**.

It is true that Facebook, Twitter and Google are private companies, but when they are monopolies and they censor views they don't like it's quite different than saying it's just a private company.

It's also ironic that the misinformation police are more guilty of pushing misinformation as the people or outlets they claim to be policing. How many Russia "bombshells" turned out to be complete BS? Here's a list that you probably ignored before.

Whats the latest BS Russia conspiracy theory pushed by the corporate media? The supposed Havana syndrome. Look it up. It's ridiculous but the corporate media is pushing it to keep their favorite boogeyman in the news cycle. But you guys eat it up so it's not surprising they continue pushing it.

Let's talk about the McAuliff staffers that the Lincoln Project supposedly organized to act like they were white supremacists and were supporting Glenn Youngkin. It was an obviously coordinated stunt that included local media.

They were quickly caught red handed and 3 of them were quickly identified as McAuliff staffers. Those McAuliff staffers then quickly locked their Twitter profiles and one deleted their Twitter profile.

SFL, nobody is censoring views merely because they are right wing. It’s like you didn’t even register who is getting the most views on FB.

Here is what all your favorites totally ignore. When one side is full of lies and BS, pushing things that are demonstrably false, and that will harm people, even FB and Twitter will take that crap down.

They would take it down no matter who posts it, but it just so happens the right these days is completely full of crap. So the side that tells huge lies about election integrity, vaccine safety, Covid mitigation strategies and so forth, is going to get moderated more than sane people.

It is what it is. Enough lies still get through that you are totally deceived about all kinds of crazy conspiracy theories.

You have no proof that there was any sort of media conspiracy concerning Hunter Biden. None. To say there was would mean that Fox, WSJ, Washington Examiner, etc, were all in on it. This is just ridiculous. What’s far more likely is that no reputable news organization would touch that story with a ten foot pole because A. it was so dubious from the outset B. It just doesn’t matter.

The stupid bus incident is just that - stupid and who cares? It was a stupid stunt. No different than a dozen or more done by Rs this past election season.

The performative outrage is kinda special though. 🤪

Oh look, the "credible" corporate media is claiming this BS when those McAuliff staffers were already identified

It looks like McAuliff staged the hoax and once his staffers were identified the Lincoln Project took credit to try to shield McAuliff from the blame. That last poll showing McAuliff down 8 points must have been accurate for them to pull a BS stunt like this.

Are you a paid Democratic Operative or do you just do it for free?

Do you think the Lincoln Project will be banned from social media for disinformation?

SFL, it is completely telling that you cannot refute what I said (in my own words, you should try using your words sometime). This is a political stunt. I don’t care one bit about it.

Your accusations of me using “talking points” is complete projection.

It was a political stunt by McAuliff's staffers and the local media played along with it. Why do you think the respected Reuters would label the McAuliff staffers as republicans?

I'm having trouble finding the disinformation police. Do you know where they are?
Zig!
Zag!

I didn’t say shirt about disinformation. I made a comment on your “posting” style. 90% of your posts are just naked tweets, and that may be conservative (haaaaaaaah!)

When asked for your actual opinion on something, you either resort to some quip, or make some attempt to redirect to something that wasn’t even mentioned in the post you’re replying to

Aren't boatloads of local television stations in the US Conservative? Owned by this lot? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinclair_Broadcast_Group

I will find this woman and I will marry her.

Yep and they were on track to owning 75% of the local viewership/markets before the got cut off. Now they only own like 45% of the viewership/markets. And all the stations they DO own have these right-wing FUD pieces that are mandated as "must run" even though they have little basis in reality
