I figured we needed a thread specifically about the media.

There was a very big correction recently by the Washington Post.

That story was supposedly "independently confirmed" by CNN, NBC News, USA Today, ABC News, & PBS News Hour. How could they all have gotten the quote wrong if they actually independently confirmed the story?

Why do all the errors always go in one political direction and not closer to 50/50?

It's starting to look like the Catholic fascists behind the Heritage Foundation and The Federalist Society have been getting a foothold within major news corporations as well as federal courts and the Supreme Court. These guys are going all in and this election is just as much an existential moment for them as it is for the rest of us. If they lose this election, they lose decades of work and progress.

I personally think they shot their wad too soon, which is good for the rest of us. I think Obama winning twice spooked them out into the open and after getting lucky with Trump in 2016, they got cocky and thought we'd let them run roughshod over us, especially women and non-whites. We might just have collectively let them had COVID not shattered a lot of comfortable illusions and distracting routines.
The election of a black man shocked Republicans to the core. Racism is bedrock for them. As long as Whites were in most positions of power things would be fine. Some changes here and there could be tolerated or worked around. Obama being president was over the top.

Of course, conservative religionists have long made common cause with racists and wealth. Now they are out in the open. Thus they must be fought with every tool available.

Oh, I love this for him…

Carlson’s status as a mother ******* Peice of work is well established before the Russian connection. Despite the way “foreign agent laws” are used to abuse, oppress, citizens, and strike at basic civil rights in Russia, part of me wishes we had something like this to use legitimately against Carlson, but I acknowledge the danger of a politicized law like this. Just look at Russia.

We all know that lieing your arse off in the political arena seems to be just fine these days in the US. But is being on the payroll by a hostile foreign power to make false political accusations, illegal in the US? How about violating your Oath of Office to protect and defend the USA? Right, for the big Orange Potato, Congress is supposed to address this, and hence lies the weakness of our democracy. 🤔

I don’t know the law very well at all, but Carlson could certainly be argued to be a Trump advisor. He was said to have lobbied hard for the Vance pick. He sat in Trump’s seating area at the R convention. At what point is someone involved in a political campaign required to disclose foreign entanglements?

C’mon, Trump would just say he never met Carlson and doesn’t know who he is and the media would just shrug their shoulders and walk away.

Please don’t step in the sarcasm. 😁

I wish someone would do a parody of Shaggy's It Wasn't Me that showed Trump with all the people he says he doesn't know and change the lyrics to Never Met Them.

So the South African-born billionaire owner of the LA Times found out his paper was going to endorse Harris and stopped it. No, not Musk, we have another one. 😡

I'm glad you posted this. Living in LA I've known about this other billionaire South African cancer on American Society. Patrick Soon-Shiong has managed to keep himself out of the general public's eye, but he's just as bad and detrimental as Elon Musk.

Patrick Soon-Shiong is passively supporting Trump by not letting the LA Times endorse Harris. The editorial board kept silent about not being allowed to endorse Harris, until someone leaked that the LA Times wouldn't endorse Harris. It wasn't leaked that the editorial board was blocked by the owner, Patrick Soon-Shiong, from endorsing Harris. It was framed as if the editorial board chose not to endorse Harris. Immediately after that leak, Trump and his minions were squawking about how embarrassing that even the people of CA new Harris was a terrible candidate and couldn't endorse her.

The head of the editorial board resigned in protest and to draw public attention to the fact that the entire editorial board wanted to endorse Harris, but were blocked from doing it by another elitist, billionaire, authoritarian, bio-tech bro. It's about time Patrick Soon-Shiong gets publicly exposed more.

I'm not mischaracterizing him. Along with using government money to fund his research and then keeping all the revenues that came from it, he also used tactics like these to make billions of dollars.

"Biotech entrepreneur Patrick Soon-Shiong, MD, has been accused of orchestrating a "catch and kill" plan that prevented a cancer therapy entering the US market.
The product, known as Cynviloq and developed by Sorrento Therapeutics, is a biosimilar version of Abraxane (albumin-bound paclitaxel), which was developed by Soon-Shiong and sold to Celgene in 2010 (a company of which Soon-Shiong is the largest shareholder).
Two lawsuits filed by Sorrento Therapeutics allege that Soon-Shiong purchased Cynviloq from Sorrento Therapeutics but then prevented it from ever reaching the market."

There's more, but I can't prove it. A friend of mine who worked for one of Patrick Soon-Shiong's biotech investment companies in a technical role was asked one day to surrender all of her personal computer and phone to security without any explanation. After she refused, she was fired on the spot and immediately escorted by security to her car. She didn't have access to any proprietary or confidential company data.

She told me that the the place had an irrationally paranoid level of security. She was very active on her own time on a Reddit that was very critical of some of Patrick Soon-Shiong's other shady investment companies and strategies. Trying to verify she was one of the posters on that Reddit is the only think she could think of that they could have been looking for. She was part of the reddit before working for him and didn't find out until a few weeks into the job that he owned the company she worked for. She didn't share any information or knowledge gained from her job on the reddit. She admits herself that was because there was nothing for her to share.

She went straight home from work after being fired. When she got home, there was a man she hadn't seen before hanging out in the hallway near her apartment. As soon as she walked past him, the man attacked her and beat the hell out of her. He didn't say anything to her nor did he take anything from her. If it was a coincidence, it was a hell of a coincidence. My friend is a person who is transgender, so the police just assumed it was a hate crime. It's hard to believe that someone committing a hate crime wouldn't spew hateful rhetoric or say a single word at all.

Scott Jennings is the closest thing to Goebbels that Trump and Republicans have. That's both a good and a bad thing. Good because Jennings is not anywhere near as effective for Trump and Republicans, as Goebbels was for Hitler and the Nazis. It's a bad thing, because lying to and deceiving the public like Goebbels did is a bad thing.
