While saying he supports the Second Amendment, Biden called the absolutist arguments of some gun-rights supporters “bizarre.” Noting people can’t own machine guns or bazookas, Biden said, “Why should we allow people to have military-style weapons including pistols with 9-mm bullets and can hold 10 or more rounds?

IMO, if Biden wants to persuade people, including those who want to retain the right to own weapons for self defense, he really should learn more about guns. Based on prior statements as well those he made in the linked article, he seems hung up on the idea that a shotgun is the correct weapon for personal defense, and that a 2-3 round capacity is adequate. Furthermore, when he throws out "9mm" as if it is some unusually lethal round, he really sounds as though he is, at best, willfully ignorant and can't be trusted when it comes to legislation restricting gun ownership.

We just had a Democratic presidential candidate stand on stage and enthusiastically proclaim, "Hell yes, we are going to take your AR-15s." People see registration as a step toward confiscation.

That's the answer, or at least the most common answer.

    Nope that is not it.

The gun rights people don't care about life but their own.

The gun rights people don't want to be proactive on change. They just want to cry like a bunch of toddlers about their rights rather than close loopholes.

I would think that people that own a stupid sports car or a big arse boat. You know over compensation for something they are a bit short in other areas

That would never happen and you know it. There are extremist on both sides and using one as an excuse for not implementing otherwise reasonable laws is unwise.

You asked me why people opposed registration and I gave you the most common answer to that question.

And as far as extremists, I have been amazed at how quickly the Democratic party has moved to the left. You have Beto outright saying he intended on confiscating weapons -- to a crowd that actually cheered. Kamala Harris, has said, with a gleam in her eye - that she would give Congress 100 days to enact gun control legislation and if they did not get it done she would take action by Executive Order.

I don't know what is going to happen in the future and neither do you.

You’re not making an analogy to Joe’s argument
Joe’s argument would be that since criminals don’t follow laws like ‘don’t shoot people ‘ then we should be free to shoot people

    It’s not a sound argument

please draw the lines for me as to how you reached this conclusion.

Stop with the politispeak, let's fix the problem.

I don’t think that is politicspeak. unlike the majority of the board, I’m not an expert on everything. I’m my simple little mind, go where the nbrs tell you to go.

I don’t think another random gun law solves the problem. Ton of laws on the books in Chicago and there are murder there weekly.

Joe to be totally honest with you if you are a lawful citizen then why would that matter to you

Tell ya moose... haven't been dissing ya... It's a real birch to try and communicate on my tablet at work... What frustrates me with the anti gun crowd... They stand up and hollar for more laws... But yet won;t even go to the table to discuss that fact the Violent Music and Violent Video games might come into to play a little bit and they may need a little regulation too... It's all save the kids.. But only do something with the guns.. We love our violent games.. Don;t touch them...

That would never happen and you know it.

Please.. No offense... But Wasn't your grandfather in a german concentration camp? Didn't the german government take guns, homes, and everything from a lot of people???

So the thought of it would never happen is not that far fetched.

In fact... Beto went of record in his Campaign for President that he WOULD take our AR15's...

    Just going a step further:

The far left - we only have 12 years left.

Also the far left - preppers are crazy.

I don't think an occupying army would care about laws and while we are a small country surrounded by big countries with a bad record of dreams of empires, the US is very safe compared to us in that respect.

Besides we DO have a "well regulated millitia" (national guard) and just to be on record I am a member. As such I also own a gun but I did have to have extensive training to get to that point. I also have 2 separate locked cabinets in 2 different rooms. The gun is kept in one of them and the ammo in the other. I also have to requalify EVERY year. So you see I actually do know what I am talking about.

I recognize your service to your country.
Hey.. I'll be happy to qualify every year... Makes sense to me..
    Is your gun registered?

Certainly - it was issued to me by the national guard. ALL weapons must be registrered here. NO exceptions. And you will go to jail if caught with an unregistered weapon. And as a national guard member I must at all times be willing to have my weapon and the way it is stored reviewed. An official can visit my house and check that the weapon is stored according to the rules

Can this official enter anyone’s house or just those part of your countries national guard?

Oh wow, with our National Guard the weapons are highly controlled - the members would never be allowed to store them in their homes.

I am not sure about how it is there, but today, as a practical matter, our National Guard is really just a less expensive component of the military (but also subject to state duties as well).

Depending on the unit, as a member of the Guard one can expect to be called to active duty and deployed.

Your National Guard may receive the same training as your active duty as well. (I am assuming your active duty trains as though it may participate in combat).

No our national guard is just that. It does not leave the country and is a volunteer unpaid part time position. Since you can drive from one end of the country to the other in 3 hours, it really does not make any sense to have centralized mobilisation centers to outfit and equip people in case of a crises. There is really no time for a regular muster. People should have the basic equipment at home and the heavier weapons locked up at the depot. But we do have as i said steel cabinets with special security locks to keep the weapons we keep at home safe. With both russia and germany as neighbors we have learned the hard way.

I’m still curious, can the government go into anyone’s home and check their guns? Also, I have guns that are loaded and ready to fire at the moment.

    1. one night stand (38 revolver)
    2. One under the bed with the handle accessible (shotgun)
    3. One next to the exit of my bedroom (300 blackout)

all are loaded and ready to roll. Of course the safe has the 308, 223, 17hmr, multiple hand guns and other cool weapons that I have collected over the years. I’m really starting to like expensive knives.

To feel like you need all of that seems to only invite more fear and paranoia into your life.

Having all of those weapons ready to go forces you to imagine a home invasion more often than is healthy.

You don’t realize it because it is normal to you.

Only with a warrant signed by a judge. If you don't have a gun permit and the police receives a report that you have a gun and find it credible, yes - then they will get a warrant and investigate. As I said - it is against the law to have an unregistered gun and you will go to jail if caught.

You're going to like our laws against knifes either. If you carry a hunting knife on the streets, you better be going hunting. Just carrying around as a deterent is illegal and will send you to jail for 2 weeks. Switchblades are totally forbidden to even own.

I sure hope you don't have any kids in your house, because the way you keep your guns is a receipe for disaster!

Isn't that what I have said all along... The only way for true gun control is for a cop to search you for an illegal weapon? In your scenario your guns are legal, because you are licensed to have it.

Therefore making new laws will have no effect until you get to this point here. Of the cops searching you and taking the gun if you are not legal to have it...

Yes... That's what I been saying all along.

You have to license the person.. Not the gun...
