While saying he supports the Second Amendment, Biden called the absolutist arguments of some gun-rights supporters “bizarre.” Noting people can’t own machine guns or bazookas, Biden said, “Why should we allow people to have military-style weapons including pistols with 9-mm bullets and can hold 10 or more rounds?

IMO, if Biden wants to persuade people, including those who want to retain the right to own weapons for self defense, he really should learn more about guns. Based on prior statements as well those he made in the linked article, he seems hung up on the idea that a shotgun is the correct weapon for personal defense, and that a 2-3 round capacity is adequate. Furthermore, when he throws out "9mm" as if it is some unusually lethal round, he really sounds as though he is, at best, willfully ignorant and can't be trusted when it comes to legislation restricting gun ownership.

Why should anybody be able to purchase gun parts for illegal guns

And what exactly is an ILLEGAL gun?
If a 16 year old kid with a felony takes a gun from his father's night stand that the father purchased with a background check... and he has it in his possesion while roaming the streets... Is that gun Illegal? If the father has a concealed carry permit and he carries it.. Then the gun is legal... If his felon kid carries it with no permit.. Then it should then be illegal...

See, it's not the gun itself... It is the guns use that should make it either legal or illegal...

What civil liberties are being infringed by outlawing unregistered guns?

And if a person is carrying around an unregistered gun? Then what? Lets say you got a criminal standing on the street corner with an unregistered gun in his pocket.. He could commit two or three robberies with this unregistered gun... You wouldn't know if a person was carrying an unregistered gun on them or not. So how you gonna find out an do anything about it?

Like cars... Registered cars... Registered cars get used in crimes all the time, bank robberies, drive by shootings, drug deals...

and even further more.. Cops pull over people in cars all the time to check and see if the car is registereed, and if the driver has a license... If it is not it is impounded and the driver goes to jail... But only after the cop pulls the car and driver over first and does an inspection.

Without the cop doing the initial process and search, the car registration, as with the gun registration is worthless...

And what exactly is an ILLEGAL gun?

Just read the article instead of asking me Joe. It tells you exactly what a "ghost gun" is, why they're illegal, and how criminals and gun sellers are getting around gun laws that make those guns illegal. You don't need to guess or come up with these hypotheticals you keep asking me to expound on which have nothing to do with this problem. The only reason this is happening is because gun laws don't cover these assembly kits and they're easy to put together. Plain and simple.

and how criminals and gun sellers are getting around gun laws Plain and simple.

    I read it...

Criminals getting around gun laws.... nahhh.. you don't say...

Like this line here from the story. "Authorities don’t know how Berhow was able to get the gun, as he was too young to purchase one legally. "

The kid already broke existing gun laws. So you wanna make more gun laws? The real issue is that you don't need more gun laws but more enforcement of the ones that you already have. You have to let those that are to enforce the laws do so...

Just like the shootout with cops in Chicago.. The guy was a felon... The law stated he wasn;t suppossed to have a gun.. But he broke the law and did... and in my view, I should be able to own a firearm to try and defend myself from a felon cop killer.. and not have more laws made to make things harder for me.. Mr. Legal Citizen.

I would like you to elaborate on this point, because it is not legal for cops to pull over cars simply to check for a license and registration under Delaware v Prouse.

"Except where there is at least articulable and reasonable suspicion that a motorist is unlicensed or that an automobile is not registered, or that either the vehicle or an occupant is otherwise subject to seizure for violation of law, stopping an automobile and detaining the driver in order to check his driver's license and the registration of the automobile are unreasonable under the Fourth Amendment."

Have membership levels grown enough for you to discuss guns yet?

The gun laws that address age aren't the ones in questions here. It's the lack of proper/sufficient gun laws that allow these guns that would otherwise be illegal to own (both because the gun is illegal and/or because it's illegal for the person to own the gun), to be assembled and used in crimes. The laws are working, because people who can't buy the guns legally otherwise are going this route.

So in this situation it's the lack of proper/sufficient gun laws that allows for this loophole to exist (where these parts and kits are sold for assembly) and for criminals to go this route and take advantage of it to get guns. It's a loophole that can be eliminated.

What civil liberties are being infringed by outlawing unregistered guns? AFAIK there is nothing in the constitution which prohibit that. People can still buy and own guns. You also have to register to vote -despite given that right in the constitution...

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Though irrelevant. The argument is about preventing criminals from having guns. Random checks would accomplish that as we know via the TSA.

I won't answer it because it's a strawman and has nothing to do with either the article or my response. That article that I responded to was about people purchasing gun parts and kits to assemble illegal, unregistered weapons. The only thing that's allowing this to happen is our lack gun laws. Why should anybody be able to purchase gun parts for illegal guns that can then be simply assembled by any dolt and subsequently used as an illegal, unregistered weapons in crimes? How exactly does that fit into the framework of a legal gun owner?

well as a legal gun owner, me and my buddies like different things. Just like I’m a German car guy, Greg loves mustangs. His mustang is not off the showroom floor, it is modified and tweaked and runs 9 seconds.

what you are proposing does ZERO stop criminals from using guns. Joe makes an excellent point.

stop with the politicspeak and let’s fix the problem. Profiling will prevent way more crimes IN MY OPINION.

That quote does not apply in this situation. Having to register guns does NOT prevent people from owning guns.

Laws without the loopholes work. Just need to remove the loopholes.

Can you provide info to back up to your assertion? Last time I checked there wasn’t a lot of loopholes in the homicide laws. And if there are loopholes in the homicide laws, please point to the ones that allowed the Saugus high shooting.

That doesn't have anything to do with my response. I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make.

The law that I would have proposed (making it illegal to purchase these gun kits/parts that allow for ghost guns to be assembled easily) would have stopped this killer.

Read the article on the last page.

Yeah let's profile rather than make people register a gun!

So your solution is to over work law enforcement and make everyone have to sacrifice time so lazy gun owners don't have a test and fill out paperwork?

How do you even see any logic in that one?

That is not even bringing up the racist part of all of it.

In your opinion, who or what should the profiling be based upon?
